I don't know if you should count On the Way to a Smile, Maiden Who Travels the Planet, or Last Order, though, because they're not games (and, except for that last one, absolute swill. Breaking Dawn was better than that crap).

In the Japanese world, anything that has the brand name belongs to that brand... 'The Compliation of Final Fantasy VII' was the project that got all those other FFVII games out on the market, to prove to other companies that they can branch out away from just the Nintendo and Playstation console...

The way I see it, this FFVII project is just like '.hack' how they both try to put different stories into other medias such as TV shows and novels...

I say they should just remake 7 instead of branching off of it. It would be awesome if it was the same game with modern technology.

I think the reasons why they came out with Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus was because players wanted to know more about the most liked characters in 7. CC delves into Cloud's past a little since the part where Tifa helps him find himself might have been a little confusing. And DoC lets you in on the background of Vincent Valentine, a side quest character in 7.
