Does anyone still read the classics anymore?
Ever since Puffin Classics started releasing all those awesome novels in new covers and everything I've been intrigued.
I think I'm the only one person in my whole school that is even interested in them.
Many books can be incredible, but the Classics are the ones that will be remembered for decades and possibly centuries because they are one-of-a-kind, fun for children, and so in-depth.
So far I've read...
~ Little Women
~ Wizard of Oz
~ The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
~ King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table
~ The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
~ Call of the Wild
~ Secret Garden
And right now I'm on....
JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH
I've already bought
~ The Little Princess
~ Wind in the Willows
For when I'm done JttCotE.

I read the Wizard of Oz when I was little, and I don't remember the actual book, but I do remember the movie. =]
I saw the movie Little Women.
I've read Call of the Wild, and HATED it.
Loved the Secret Garden.
And I read most of The Little Princess, and I was also obsessed with the movie.
I don't think I'd like Journey to the Center of the Earth. I saw the movie that was based off of the book, which was really good until they actually made it to the center, then it was just annoying.

There's a used book store next to the library where I live, and they have a rack just of classic books. I've gotten so much there; between the classics and the sci-fi books, I'm pretty much out of space on my bookshelf now. I haven't even gotten around to reading most of them yet. sweatdrop

Zephyrkitty There's a used book store next to the library where I live, and they have a rack just of classic books. I've gotten so much there; between the classics and the sci-fi books, I'm pretty much out of space on my bookshelf now. I haven't even gotten around to reading most of them yet. sweatdrop Lol, you are most definitely not alone B) By the time I get all the classics I'll need a new bookshelf. eccentricanomaly: OH yes, I saw the Wizard of Oz movie too. Kinda different from the book but really fun smile I only recently got Little Women as a movie to be a part of my collection. Call of the Wild was kind of short, yeah? And it's really sad too. But I think it's on the most part it's a beautiful story. Secret Garden was actually the very first classic book I read. I was only Grade 3 when my mom mysteriously bought it for me and I loved it. Not so much the movie though. Oh yes, I saw The Little Princess movie first before buying the book, haha. Really? I never saw the movie. From what I'm reading right now, the beginning was a little cool when they were uncoding the message, and then it got really dull, but now that they're almost at the crater it's getting very fun once more. I think once they're down there it'll be really fun but I guess I might not be correct.

I adored both Little Women and A Little Princess. When Elizabeth died in Little Women, I was so sad! But I'm glad Jo got her happy ending. heart I've also read Robin Hood and Black Beauty, though I'm not certain if they're Puffin Classics. And apparently, they've also started releasing the Sherlock Holmes series, which I'm finding to be truly delightful. heart

Ooh, Midsummer Night's Dream! Yeah I finished reading that recently... I have two huge leatherbound volumes of Shakespeare (thanks to my dad! biggrin ) from the University of Chicago. They have all the Shakespeare works and in old english... oddly Old English is suddenly really easy to understand.
Most of the people I know already read it... but it was my first time sweatdrop AND I LOVED IT!!

Ah, classics. xD Not all of mine are Puffin classics, but some are. I've read a lot of other classics because I took Brit Lit this year.
Favorites:
Tess of the D'Urbervilles (did not like the ending and the outcome in the last third or so of the book, but it's amazing)
Pride and Prejudice (just finished and LOVED it)
Hamlet (The very question of existence! But there are also some amazing quotes and comedy. 3nodding )
Huckleberry Finn (I love Jim! xD )
Uncle Tom's Cabin (on the longer side, but so worth it)
The Secret Garden
I've also read: The Great Gatsby, Brave New World (not bad once you got past the beginning), 1984, Call of the Wild (a REALLY long time ago), Heart of Darkness, My Antonia, The Scarlet Letter (that one wasn't bad), Frankenstein, A Separate Peace, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Metamorphosis, Beowulf, A Farewell to Arms (ugh, Hemingway), Great Expectations, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm (if you count them), and a bunch of Shakespeare (Othello, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo and Juliet, etc.)

It really depends. I loved Oliver Twist, and would enjoy Tom Sawyer & the Secret Garden, if I ever get my hands on them. And does George Orwell & H.G. Wells count, along with Lord of the Flies?

Bloody Vaginal Belch It really depends. I loved Oliver Twist, and would enjoy Tom Sawyer & the Secret Garden, if I ever get my hands on them. And does George Orwell & H.G. Wells count, along with Lord of the Flies?
