Obama or no Obama

I did not vote for Obama. I feel that to put a young man to clean up this mess Bush put us in would be really hard on him and his family. He would be under a constant microscope of scrutiny and people would savagly try to beat him up on the news and off. Not to mention I thought Hillary was more legally qualified to clean up this mess FASTER. .... Now that he is in, I will listen and support him as strongly as I can. I will support him as he supports his country and all the men and women of service. I must conclude that I am highly elated that Hillary is Secretary of State.

I didn't vote for Obama because I didn't like his proposals. Despite his repeated denials of such, he's clearly socialistic. I know a lot of people think the idea of socialism sounds good with the economy going bad {though, if you call it socialism, they'll say it's bad. If you talk about the principles of socialism without calling it socialism, they'll be all for it}, but it can make things worse. Actually, it's very likely that part of the problem with the economy right now is the fact that it's already partially socialized. Some will say the recession is proof that capitalism doesn't work, but we never had true capitalism... there was always some socialism mixed in there because no one was trusting enough to try actual capitalism.

I also don't approve of disarming citizens. Everyone has the right to own a gun, as the second amendment states. Just because some people do bad things with guns doesn't mean you need to take them away from everyone or make it harder for ordinary people to get them. Even if you completely outlaw guns, the people that want to cause harm will still find a way to get them. Despite drugs being illegal, you can still find those in practically every city. How would guns be different? Any law breaker determined to get their hands on a gun will get a gun, and the law-abiding citizens will have nothing to protect themselves with. Sure there is 911, but police do not have teleportation technology.... by the time they get there, it might be too late. I've met at least 3 police officers/retired police officers that have actually suggested to keep a gun in the house because they cannot respond fast enough to 911 calls 98% of the time if it's a very serious situation {such as someone breaking in with the sole intention of causing harm rather than just stealing a few things}. Only in the case that the officer just so happened to be patrolling nearby will they be able to get there quickly.

What also annoys me is when people act like Obama is their savior. When he actually does something for you, then maybe you'll have a reason to praise him. At the moment, he has just made a lot of promises... many of them seemingly impossible to keep without some kind of consequence that no one is going to like {for instance, having every child in America be insured by mandating that their parents -have- to buy health insurance even if they can't afford it, or "free" health care provided by high taxes that also results in lower quality service and longer waiting periods}.

Of course, I also don't like it when people make racist comments to express their dislike for Obama. America has been ready for a president of a different skin color for many years now.... and if one had run a serious campaign sooner, I'm sure it would have happened sooner. When people voted in the past, they couldn't just write in "I want a black president" and magically get a black president out of it. They have to campaign... nothing was stopping them from running.

I'd also like to note that just because I don't like Obama doesn't mean that I like Mccain. Fundamentally they were the same person in my mind.... they stood on the same side on issues that seem to be of the most importance. I voted for Ron Paul in the primary and Bob Barr in the general election.
