Which one is better out of the two FREE versions? Because I don't have any money to buy anything fancy and expensive. So, I was just wondering which one was better of the two..

They are both fantastic! But if you want more control, and more options instead of having to download and dig for them, I say GIMP. It's really good for making siggys and finishing off pics too. Hope this helps~!

Moving down from Photoshop to GIMP annoyed the hell out of me (new Mac, no Mac photoshop), but I think that it is a very good free program. Although I haven't used it before, I heard that Paint Tool Sai is extremely good. That's just what I've heard, I don't have it or know anything about it, besides the fact that I've been awesome things come from it.

I have to admit, I couldn't use or understand GIMP, and open canvas for me, was just much more natural. Either way, I don't use either any more, since I pretty much cling to my beloved Photoshop.

GIMP surprisingly was nice to use. After a little fiddling, it was no different from how I used Photoshop when I didn't have it and I still did pretty well with it.
I colored this piece just with use of GIMP: http://cortheonly.deviantart.com/art/Omi-Barsait-Colored-Version-2-128429114
