From all the playable characters that you have made, who was your favorite? Who was your favorite non-player character? Doesn't matter if cause of an adventure or campaign story or just how they came out during creation. Just choose your favorite characters and explain why they're your favorites.

My personal choice of a character in general would have to be Karnon Redgrave. Although he started as a playable character, I was never able to finish more adventures than one with him as my father never played with me again. It felt awesome to make my first evil character and (at the time) his name described his awesomeness. It's been years since I played the evil fighter, so I had placed him in a campaign I made in the past year as a more interesting character. What made him cool was that he wasn't your regular villain.

He was once a paladin of Heironeous (god of justice) but when an adventure between him and his lover went wrong, he was forced to watch as a gang of men raped the love of his life. He called the god of justice to save his loved one, but when there was no answer, his faith was broken. He prayed to the evil brother of Heironeous, Hextor, and spoke to the very god himself. Immediately, he was given the power of a Blackguard (Anti-Paladin) and overwhelmed the mean easily. However, he was too late. So for my campaign, he led a trail of destruction and death to avenge his love. Seeking the blood of the gods' themselves. In the end, my friend's heroes had to fight Karnon whom had destroyed Hextor and nearly killed the god of justice. His entire soul was destroyed, but his mark was left on Earth, Heaven, and Hell. (Of course my world had different names for these planes, but that's the basic way to put them).

Hmm... there's so many good ones. Yet still, I have to say, my favorite was an elven ranger named Celen Crane. He was part of a group of humans (and later had a dwarf with him too), that went from squatters in a slum area to heroes of a city (the capital even). The surprising part is, that during it, we had to attend to court, telling witness accounts of what happened. When asked who the leader of the group was, everyone else named Celen. He merely shrugged. He hadn't been trying to become leader.

So after that they go down below the city again (they had done so before), kick lots of orc, slaver, and undead a**... don't find the boy cause the group gets new players right before this that just go 'lololol kill everything and don't listen to the leader'... so instead of trying to capture the leader of the slavers.

Well, we got some amazing stuff there, a good amount of cash too. My guy also had picked up some orb which only later on he found was actually some ancient artifact... he hasn't found out more about it though and since then the DM has moved and we've yet to continue.

Name: Nizumi
Race: Fey-Kissed Felid
Class: Rogue/Assassin
Deity: Mask
Alignment: Neutral Evil

where to even start with her...she's the kind of character that people love, and love to hate. for those who don't know Felid is a race of cat folk. so she's a small adorable cat girl rogue, who is very curious and gets bored very very fast, which tends to get her in trouble a lot. she's probable the best and worst thief ever. she'll break in to a place, plan to rob it, then get easily distracted. or cause she has a horrid str score, realize she can't carry anything. so she just kinda...messes around. she'll take the bow strings off of bows, it's a cat thing she loovees string, and use her rust wand to carve smiley faces and words in to suits of armor.

when she does steal something big, she really aims high. in the last game I played with her, she manged to legally steal a mansion for herself in the capital city...she was also declared the worst natural disaster to hit that city, after destroying a full city block, burning down half the dock area and one of the cities landmark inns, all because someone stole a dagger from her, and she was trying to get it back...

She's a real RP heavy character, high charisma and dex. low str and con. the last game she was in managed to get her to level 7 with out ever engaging in combat. she works well in a group setting, but really shines when she's by herself. last game the rest of the party didn't even know where my char was, or what she was doing most of the time. sometimes we weren't even in the same city or town

A simple dwarf.

My favorite NPC was a man who had Cthulhu sealed inside his soul.

I have two, for different reasons.

The first is Cecil Hawthorne, Human Sorcerer. He had a focus on transmutation spells, and rarely participated in combat. He would buff the party members (Mass Bull's Strength! Mass Bear's Endurance! Mass Enlarge Person! Haste! Tequila! cool )

He had a few attack spells, namely touch ones he would deliver via his familiar, a black cat named Mr. Scruffles. The favorite of which, was Shocking Grasp, because it made Mr. Scruffles look like a walking sphere of fur! Hee hee ^-^

Cecil Hawthorne was Chaotic Good with a simple outlook on life, and focused a lot on making friends and helping save the day.

Mr. Scruffles was Lawful Evil and took every opportunity to off Cecil.

When my group tried to explain to me, "Y'know, Rob, a familiar is supposed to be an extension of your character's soul." I responded "Yeah, I know. smile "

I think that was the day my group started fearing my capabilities as a player, even if my capabilities are self-destructive in nature >____>'

((Fun fact: We finished the campaign we were on about a month before Lord Shojo was introduced in Order of the Stick. Mr. Scruffles has gone down in my group's history as a major player in our Hall of Villains because of it.))

-----------------------------------

The second character I wanted to bring up, wasn't so much for role-playing reasons as mechanical reasons. Vance Heilbrech was a Neutral Good Human Enchanter 3 / Master Specialist 8. His barred schools were Conjuration, Evocation, and Transmutation. This took out most of his offensive capabilities, though it left necromancy for anti-undead spells and abjuration for anti-construct spells (those who he couldn't effect with his enchantments!)

He too liked to solve problems nonviolently if he could. He looked down on violence with disdain, and knew there were easier, safer ways to diffuse bad situations. He only got used in a one-shot in a convention, but it was funny at the beginning of the game.

The Raskhasa and his minions draw their weapons and turn to face you!
Let's kill the bastards!
Let's try talking to them civilly instead.
No, we'll kill the rest and take one alive for questioning.
Make will saves. Let's try talking to them civilly instead.
Let's try talking to them civilly instead.

So yeah, we basically skipped the first encounter of the game, because the enchanter said "No", which COMPLETELY threw the DM for a loop (he hadn't prepared for that. A few more will saves on the villains had been required, but nothing I couldn't handle *sips tea*)

Though, we ended up going to this extradimensional keep and it was a trap to bring us to their leader, this big demon thing. The final battle ended up being the big demon thing, the Rakshasa, and a few mooks. The Raskhasa was the demon's right hand man, and a powerful sorcerer (higher level than us).

The VERY first round of combat, I feebleminded the Raskhasa. Passed the SR check, and he botched the will save. I turned a powerful sorcerer into a kitten!

Ever since that game, Enchantment has been my favorite 3.5 school of choice :3

Well one of my favorite all-time D&D characters has to be my evil Thri-kreen/Shade Fighter/War Hulk/Dervish named Pak-cha. From a combat standpoint, the thing was a blender that enemies walked in to and walked out of in bits and pieces. He literally got 40 attacks in a round! If anyone's curious how I pulled that off, I'll gladly share.

However, from a roleplaying standpoint, he was hilarious. Being a big ol' praying mantis thing, Pak-cha had difficulty fully grasping humanoid behavior and customs. He wasn't DUMB just...foreign to everything the rest of the party did and spoke of. It led to some hilarious moments where he misinterpreted their actions and tried mimicking them later.

Another favorite has to be my rogue halfling Cage. He, alone, was the catalyst of party strife and frustration. The DM loved him because he loved realistic interactions between PCs, NPCs, and so on, and Cage certainly caused realistic interactions.

Cage/Me - "Okay, I'm going to pickpocket the drunk guy." *rolls Sleight of Hand*
DM - "Okay, you succeed but the drunk guy turns on you angrily for touching him and throws you across the bar"
Cage/Me - "Hey! Nobody throws Cage Thorngage! I shoot him with my bow!"
Rest of the party - "Wait! You WHAT?!"
DM - "Aaaand you kill him in one shot."
Rest of the party - "YOU WHAT?!"

Heh...good times

I got two others I gotta say.

First off was Gruul Orsh, a Half-orc barbarian. Bout as smart as a log and looks like one too, he somehow was liked by the party despite his child-like mentality (too many bumps to the head). He was simply amazing, whether it was raging, running up a tree and jumping to bring from the air the biggest of 3 cr 4 creatures (while level 1), to opening a stone door with his face (literally), to nearly jumping a river after making an army of yuanti s**t themselves, to finally destroying a boss the DM had built up suspense for... in one turn... by himself... after the boss was only able to barely scratch him. I miss Gruul.

My other guy was a dwarven fighter... I forget his name. He was only out adventuring to get enough money to establish a tavern. His skills were in Craft: Brewing, Profession: Barkeep, Perform: Drunk Singing, and Survival (to get stuff to brew his brews with). He carried a barrel on his back which he used to brew new concoctions for trial.

He also once used a barrel of oil as a weapon, lighting a rag in it as a fuse and heaving it over a wall he helped build at a group of raiders... FROM THE GROUND.

One and always, Dimitri Fate. He was my first 3rd edition character and has gone through the most changes. He started as a humble necromancy specialized wizard. In time he became True Necromancer, and subsequently necro/cleric/true necro. He went from just some adventurer to a young man with two older brothers, a kingdom, and the death-touched savior for the undead. In time he reacts to his first kill, first death, discovering his evil persona who's intelligence is equal to his blood lust, and the inevitable discovery that he's a persona as well. But all in all, it was nice to play a nice, kindhearted, naive, young man who tries to bring salvation to all. His ending... not so great, but not that bad either...

My favorite character who i am playing now is wilfurd bremli. Here's his character sheet from what i remember

Name:Wilfurd Bremli
Age:73
Class:Mage
Alignment:Chaotic Evil
Deity:None(Character flaw irreligous.)
Paragon path: None(Haven't chosen i don't think.)
I like this character so far from what i've played him with. I like the fact that he has specialty items to go with his character flaw Diabeetus. He's funny and he's my favorite.

I'd probably have to say Fasrogen Chainready. He was a human fighter with a big handlebar mustache, and he swung a chain for a weapon, wearing chainmail. I first played him in a Dragonlance Chronicles game in 2e, and when he was finally captured by draconians they led him off in chains. Another player cried out "The fools, they've armed him!"

I later remade him in 3.5 using a chain lash. He was an ultimate trip/disarm monkey, but I quickly found out that those builds fall short when you're fighting large quadrupeds that use natural weapons. Always things like snakes and dragons and centipedes. He got infected with wererat lycanthropy after doing a detective-heavy mission. Accused of murder after waking up one post-full-moon morning he was arrested and locked up. He managed to escape from prison using only his foodtray and pillow to beat back the guards.

Later he was killed in a sparring match with his half-orc barbarian companion, who decided raging and critting with a battleaxe were good ideas in a sparring match.

I'm eager to try him out in 4e using the chainfighting feat in the dragon article about Shadar-kai. That'll let the spiked chain count as two lightbladed off-hand weapons and he'll tear some stuff up as a tempest fighter.

edit: he also had to suffer the other players calling him "Fagdragon"

First favorite would have to be my archer.

System 3.5
Race: Half Elf
Class: Dm approved homebrewed class (Think a Ranger with no spells, no animal, and no favorite enemy. But in return fighter BAB, Fighter feats opened up where favorite enemy was with a normal ranger) Then gone into Cragtop Archer (Races of stone never got the final level) then into Order of the bow (Complete Warrior)

Lets just say, I could hit a grunt at 3000 feet away or switch arrows and drop them if they came close to me

I so want to replay him

Second is my first Psion,

System: 3.5
Race: Elan
Class: Psion
Level: 1

It took me two weeks to, learn about powers, learn the difference between magic and psionics, to build him and get everything alright to play with. Just to have him killed off by a foolish error by the group's fighter.

In a failing battle, he proposal broke a magic item and house rule was if a magic item breaks then a shock wave dealing 1d20 per level covering a 20 foot area per level of magical energy explodes out
