Hotaru rose to his feet and pulled a cigarette from the second pack he had in his pants, a fresh pack as it were, and lit it with a snap of his fingers. After taking a long draw he finally responded to the mans question,"Because you are cowards, you prey upon the weak and extort the villagers. What did you think would happen you imbicle. Did you even think there was the slightest chance that you would get your money and walk freely away ?" He knew it was only a matter of time before the anbu and onnin stationed within the forest reacted to the fires and came to put them out. When they did he would let them know about the two that got away if the fools hadnt already found their way into a trap. Kneeling next to the man again he held out his pointer finger as it began to glow with searing katon chakra. Pressing it to the side of the mans head he began again,"You will continue to answer my questions or ill make what I did to your back look like a scratch. Whats their names. How can that one use ninjutsu. Where are they from. And most importantly where are they going to go?"

The man didn't react to the finger, evidently having passed the point where such a thing hurt.
"One's named Jack. Lots of people know Ninjutsu." He pursed his lips thoughtfully, but his expression looked like he was going to throw up. "Where did they come from? Where did they go? Heck if I know. That water guy was new, said his name was Joe. I tell you one thing, though: for all you people say against the UHV, they aren't hunting down and killing their citizens for minor crimes. I hope the Leaf burns like you killed my friends."
Rising back to his feet he took another drag of his smoke. He tried being civil, and it hadnt worked well it kinda did. He was also pretty sure he was terrifying the two villagers but the second he said he hoped the village would burn his chakra exploded around him. He had successfully pressed the magic button. Reaching down he grabbed the man by the throat and lifted him into the air as he began,"Look at me you little b*****d. Your people died because they posed a threat to these villagers and my village. Thus by extension my friends. You, the UHV, or any other person who threatens my friends or my village will be destroyed. No blood, No bone, No ash. I will erase every trace of your body from this earth." Tossing him to the side he slowly began to weave his signs as he crossed the distance between the two. Upon arrival he sheilded himself from the jutsu he was about to use and quickly exhaled long continuous stream of flames onto the man. Once he was confident that every trace of the man was gone he ceased the stream of flames turning to the couple,"Will you be ok from here? If the other two come back send a message bird and they will be dealt with."

"You people are the threat."
Those were his last words before he crumbled to ash. Shortly thereafter, a breeze picked up and dispersed the pepper smoke, and then a few waves of water washed over the flames. The couple said nothing to him and were escorted away by a few ANBU. It seemed the mission was complete, but Jack B. Nimble and Cotton-Eyed Joe had escaped.
With a sigh he returned to his half gone smoke and re-lit it picking up his jacket and heading out. He had let that man get to him. He should have restrained himself a bit, should have.. Heading back for the village at his leisurely pace to report his success.
A darkening and cold wind blew through the trees as the ANBU arrived at what was once the site of his childhood home, where he and his mother lived, where his father had lived, wherein everything he had ever held dear was kept. Ashes. Ashes were all that remained of the once proud home in the Midnight Forest. The ANBU fell to his knees and placed the porcelain of his mask into his hands and began to pummel his fist into the ground without speaking a word. The tears welled for a few moments before he stood and made his way to the core of the burnt pile of cinders. Pushing ashes aside he found a most curious thing, the sole survivor of the flames.
Kneeling down into the blackened wood Masahiro collected a jar from the wreckage and held it close to his heart. Here lay the ashes of his mother, now reclaimed. The ANBU gave a graven smile underneath his mask and opened the Jounin Scroll he carried, placing the jar within it and sealing it back before placing it within his flak jacket.
Coming out here had not been easy for Jae. For starters, it was a stark reminder that this was the last place she had a private moment with Samuru before things had gotten wildly out of hand. Clenching her fists she headed deeper into the forest. The deeper in she got, the less noise reached her. By the time she had found a spot to begin working all of the world around her had melted away. This was the first time in a long time that she was truly alone. It dawned on her that she had been bust scurrying for the past couple of months that she hadnt ever stopped. Her body felt heavy suddenly and it was then that she seemed to take inventory of her aches. Wounds that had never properly healed seemed to ache, the pain dull. Her skin was littered with small scars. They were not really notable but if one looked closer it was visible. Her usually soft skin was in terrible condition and her hair had been very damaged. She was skinnier than she had ever been and she felt ill just looking at the bones in her wrists that protruded out of her.
When she returned back to reality she was going to take a nice shower, eat a good meal and pamper herself. Or at least try to. If she wanted to act like her normal self she needed to feel like herself again. Raising the small ax she had been handed she found a fallen tree that had been forgotten long ago. Jae did not want to cut down a perfectly good tree if she could help it. Enough trees had been damaged when the Kyuubi had charged through the village. Rolling up her sleeves she got to work.
'Chop, chop, crack, chop, chop, chop'... That was the only sound that gave away her whereabout as she set to her task. Her mind was clear as she worked. Hard labor was her friend when it came to clearing out all of the turmoil she felt stirring under the surface. Peeling chunks of the bark from the tree she tried to cut even pieces as she worked. They needed large pieces for their work, obviously. Firewood wasn't what they had asked for her to bring back. Jae worked quickly, getting a good stock going. Sweaty, tired and hungry she stopped. This was a good enough haul. Carrying it back was out of the question. Biting down on her thumb, hard enough to draw blood, she thrust her thumb to the ground. A plume of smoke rose, Kauru emerging before. He hovered over the ground before settling. He was in his typical thirteen foot splendor, his large talons perfect for what she had in mind.
Jae hadn't seen her friend in a long time. It was good to see him, with a clear mind this time. "Its'....been awhile." Jae started, her voice clearly displaying her discomfort. It was a weak conversation starter but she didnt know what else to say. The wise owl seemed to smile, perking up and coaxing his head to one side. "Yes. It has." Clearing her voice she quickly moved on from this talk. "I am doing missions again. I need this transported back to the lumber company. I cant do this myself, obviously" Kauru looked over her and at the aforementioned stack of wood. His feathers fluffed up, the old owl clearly not looking forward to the hard work needed to carry this load out. "Please." Jae said, the owl looking back to her with clear amber orbs. He shuffled over awkwardly to the stack, Jae helping to secure the wood in his hold. He butted her with his beak once, ruffled her hair and then sat up tall. Jae was pleased by this display of affection and smiled before standing back to give him space. He lifted off with furious wing beats and was airborne and gone before Jae could utter her silent thanks.
Letting out a small sigh the tired kunoichi headed back to the village to search out that hot bath and hot meal.
Minato realized that he was the first one to appear in the area. That or they were separated from the start. With a soft sigh escaping her lips she found herself getting irritated with this type of training. Her irritation only grew as she began walking around the immense forest. Then Minato heard bells that echoed through the forest. A growl emerged from her as she knew what this training was about. Unsheathing her katana she began to follow the sounds of the bells.
Hiro arrived in the forest as well. While he didn't immediately see everyone, he simply smiled as he quickly found everyones location. They had not been placed to far apart, and so everyone was in range of his sensory skills. He noticed that Minato had begun to converge on the Jonin that was now their instructor. He wished that they would all take a moment and come up with some kind of plan, there was no way that they would be able to take him one on one, however, he decided that it would be best to slowly follow after her and serve as back up. Hiro quickly sunk beneath the earth and began to move after towards Minato so that he could serve as a strong back up, and help her out.

Emi would give a sigh as she walked into the forest and activate her byakūgan. She never did like the way the power of her eyes made it to where her veins popped out the side of her head, but it was a good power to have. She would see where Hiro and Minato were then shake her head at their impatience giving a small smile, as she caught up to them. Leave the mask on Emi, and everything would be ok. Nanami would follow her tamer but at a distance and wait for Emi's signal We might want to make a plan first before you too start running off blind. Emi would say as she watched her comrades backs, and looked around for the one holding the bells.

The Jounin instructor smiled as he saw the children wising up to his plans to remain hidden. The Hyuuga had activted her Byakugan to begin searching for him by the sign of his chakra. Most intelligent indeed, but the instructor had a trick or two of his own hidden up his sleeves. Drawing up his left and right hand just as the girl would see the silhouette of his chakra from behind a tree, his motions would be jerky. Five strings spread from each of his hands and out to a distance in the trees surrounding the team.
The other two would still be unable to see the man from his vantage point, though he had a clear view of them from another vantage point entirely. A dull chime would ring out from the distance behind the group, jingling softly to draw their attention. And then another, even farther from the first in another direction.

Minato growled softly as already this man was intending on playing games with them. Something that was going to surely infuriate her beyond her limit. Gripping her hands into fists she began to bounce on her toes a bit to get the blood flowing through her body. Or rather... whatever substance made her body and held it together at this point. Concentrating on what she should do she looked over to the other two. Curiosity came over her as she began to think of what they could do.
On one hand they had a sensor and the other was a Hyuga. Couldn't they sniff out the instructor so that they could take him down? With her golden eyes scanning the area she sighed heavily. Still thinking on what to do. She knew the bells were bait to separate them. But she didn't see any other option other than send in the trojan horse.
With her golden eyes narrowing she looked at the other two shinobi. Pointing to the farther of the two bells she was signaling them going after it. She would go after the closer one and catch back up to them. If they were to find out that it was a trap then oh well they'd handle themselves. That what being a shinobi was about anyways. Improvising in any situation handed to them. Turning in the other direction she began to walk towards the closer bell. Not in a rush at the slightest.
Hiro stopped as bells began to ring in different directions. After a moment he moved and slowly rose from the ground next to Emi. Looking at her spoke " Can you pinpoint his location? I don't really want to go chasing ghosts..." he said as he calmly closed his eyes and began to utilize his sensory techniques. Hiro began to expand his sensory outwards in all directions, noting the chakra signature of Emi, Minato and then oddly enough their instructor. There was something off about him, something that Hiro could not quite detect and had not yet encountered. Looking at Emi he spoke " Is something different about him? I am having trouble identifying him directly..." he said as he looked to her and awaited her response. Their instructor was not moving very normally, some kind of odd jerk or twitch. Hiro could not accurately detect all of the information that he usually could about people he was examining. Something was definitely off.
Hiro formed a single handsign and closed his right eye. As he did so a small swirl of dirt began to form in the direction of the far bell. After a few moments an eye formed and took position in the trees almost right on top of where the far bell was coming from. Hiro began to examine the area and spoke " Emi, I am sure you can see our instructor far better than I, you focus your attention on him, I am looking at where the furthest sound is coming from as we speak." he said calmly. For whatever reason Hiro was having difficulty detecting their instructor, and so he decided it was best he simply focus on the far sound as Minato had suggested. Hiro was a sensor, but the Hyuga clan was famous for their ability to locate opponents. Hiro figured it was best to leave it to her for now.

Emi would grumble and keep a hand close to her spear. Nanami would keep herself hidden her ears moving from side to side to try and catch any sound or any scent of the jonin. He's a freaking puppet user. He already has us surrounded closest is there behind that tree but the movements are too jerky to be the real. Separating is a bad idea Minato so stop trying to give orders. The point of this is teamwork we separate we're weaker. You frame is small and trying to get away from two sensors is a bad call. Be on the defensive. She would only give that warning before making handsigns forming needles from water and shooting them off in the direction toward the one behind the tree and off in the direction of the others that she could see.
