If Gigabyte hadn't released a beta BIOS for my board. I would never have done this. I really did not feel like plunking down 350-500 dollars for a complete system remake. (AMD 890 board and high end DDR3 memory)
Only thing left to do is bump up total system memory to 8GB, but I do not see any reason to do that yet.

When I looked at the fact that Bulldozer processors can not be put on an AM3 board..I figured, what's the point if I can shoehorn a Thuban into a AM2+ board.

Yeah, I will take a hit running DDR2, but not so definitive as long as I adjust the timings as tight as I can. (I'm already pushing the SPD timings past the spec...only slightly though. I'm not running the best branded performance memory.)

This way, I'll see how the 900 series pans out over Intel Sandy Bridge.
As long as there are no huge changes (like how Intel Conroe was), I can probably skip Bulldozer/AMD 900 series chipsets altogether and see what comes out after that.

What socket do you have? AM2?..or AM2+

But...you do have two faster choices.

But...depending on your motherboard...it might work, it might not.

Although way too expensive for this offer. Especially when you can get so much better around 300.00 or less running DDR2 or DDR3.

But...let me look at something. Given that you have a case, drives, and power supply.

Good entry level starting out board, pretty flexible, and as long as you have BIOS F7 or higher, you can actually run a Thuban X6 1055T as long as it has 95W TDP.

Crucial PC-800 DDR2 2GB memory - 40.00
I can't see the timings, but I am sure that on 800mhz you will easily be able to attain 5-5-5-18-23-2T without a hitch. You could probably even take it to 1066mhz with the same timings with 50/50 chance of needing to take the voltage to 2.1V to make sure the timings stick.

AMD Athlon II X2 2.8Ghz 65W Regor Class - 50.00
Good entry level best bang for the buck. Despite not having an L3 cache, 2.8ghz on the clock speed can and will make up for it.
I mean s**t, it is based off the Deneb cores.

Just slightly over the price of the desktop processor eBay offering that would fit your motherboard.
