THE HUNTER
Makoto continued his breakneck pacing, trying to get a beat on the Snake before she slithered away from their grasps. His arm was beginning to grow tired from constantly dragging it through the ground with his blade, but he wouldn't go the easy route just yet. He needed to make sure his path was clean and stable for his teammates to follow. Sucking up the pain he burst forward catching a glimpse of the Yukigakure gates in his line of sight. They had finally made it, the long journey from the Mist was over. Hopefully the Snow would finally settle this journey's main objective, the assassination of Doku Le.
Breath showed up second. He had been in the middle of their group, a position of weakness. He wasn't good enough to be the first to spot danger, nor was he good enough to defend the group from behind. He was cushioned on either side by the strong ones. He finally arrived after Makoto though.

The monk couldn't help but be cheerful. Their path had to end sometime, and in this case, it seemed to be coming to a close at Yukigakure. He had to wonder how that strange girl was, whom had deemed herself Carrot. Would she still be around? Not that it was the time to socialize. Doku was still free, and that in itself was troublesome. Makoto had continued to show his path, a fine line in the earth, which Zay followed from a distance. Onward, to the Gates of Snow.

'Ahh yes! Finally, warm sun, how I missed you so," the black-haired girl sighed in contentment as she walked on the road leading to Suna, taking off her coat and tying it around her waist. After a while, she pulled out a water bottle from her traveling pack and took a swing of it. When she started seeing a desert on the horizon, her pace quickened until it was almost like she was power walking. Although why she was still keeping up her fake happy attitude when no one was around, she didn't know, but didn't stop either.

Liz let out a soft sigh and unhooked her arm from her friends. She gave her a soft smile as they were walking. "I know we're not intending on doing the mission. I wont be going back either. They will assume us both dead. Your free. Ill walk you as far as suna but...Im afraid I wont be able to come in with you." She said calmly as they walked.
Sonyo waited for Elizabeth to speak first, then nodded in agreement that they wouldn't be going back. "I feel really bad for leaving Skelly behind though... I feel like we're abandoning him..." Sonyo stiffened, however, when Elizabeth noted that she wasn't going with her. "W-What? Why?!" She frowned, gripping on to Elizabeth's sleeve. "I don't want you to be alone out there.. what if the UHV come after you...?

She stopped them as she could see the desert off in the distance and took both of her hands to look at her. "Thats just the thing. They will come after me. I dont want you to be nearby. They will just throw me in the stocks for a few years for desertion. They will actually kill you. Your not a uhv, I still am tecnically. These clothes and that background will land me in prison on entering a village. I will keep in contact with you so that when the time is right we can meet again. I promise you that I will be safe. As for sergent...Ill get him out. Nothing else to it. No guilt on leaving him, Ill plan an extraction somehow for him. But you need to be safe." She said poking her nose. "Besides, I stand a better chance against the uhv if they come after me than normal shinobi. They trained me remember? I know how they operate." She gave her a rather confident smirk.
Sonyo just listened to Elizabeth, a sadness and worry on her face. She wasn't happy about it but.. She was right. On top of Elizabeth knowing how the UHV operates, she was also the braver out of the two. She'd surely be able to make it out on her own but Sonyo needed the protection of a stable village. She swallowed hard, crossing her arms in front of her chest. Her voice cracked a little when she spoke. "Okay but you have to promise you'll let me know somehow how you're doing... I'll be worried crazy about you... Please tell Skelly I said hello when you get him out of that horrid village... He deserves better, that's for sure.. " She took a deep breath and nodded towards the desert. "I should get going... I wanna get there and get this done with... I don't know how they'll react to me once I'm there.. I just hope they don't attack me on the spot.." She tugged on the sound headband around her neck, "Should I get rid of this thing before I get there?"

"Ill bring him right to you how about that" She said and gave her another smile Ill even visit you. Ittl be a little bit of a risk but ill visit. And like I said...Ill cover you when your going into the village. And yeah, hand me that headband..." She said holding her hand out to receive it.
"I'd like that.. Please be careful out there..." Sonyo said quietly, then took off her headband and handed it to Elizabeth. "I guess this is goodbye for now, then. I'll see you when you can get around to it." She smiled half heartedly, hugging herself.

She shook her head "No, its not goodbye. Ill be escorting you right up to sunagakure. Lets go hun.." She said and gave her a tight hug, pulling her close via the headband. She she would pocket it and start walking with her into sunas territory. They would be within view of the gates soon.

The journey had been long but rather uneventful for the most part. There was the occasional snap or random noise from the forest but they only ever turned out to be a deer, bird, Atsuko even thought he saw a racoon once or twice on their way here. Even the guards seemed unnervingly relaxed for people who were supposed to be protecting the cart and the goods that they had been hired to defend. Atsuko wouldn't judge to harshly though, this was his first real mission so he didn't know what they looked like on the regular. Still, he didn't like this feeling. It was a crawling feeling that they were being watched. And it sure wasn't by some raccoon.
It was around this time that he noticed the conversations that the guards were having seemingly got louder. Which seemed odd, at first. Then Atsuko realized something. They hadn't gotten louder, their environment had gotten quieter. All of the chatter from the animals nearby had gone into a hush. They were in danger.
"Eyes open, somethings not right"
Atsuko had barely gotten the words out of his mouth when an arrow flew from the nearby trees and embedded itself into one of the guards skulls, his body hitting the dirt with a heavy thud. The horses that were drawing the carriage bucked up in a startled panic and could barely be reigned in by the merchant. Thinking on his feet Atsuko quickly flashed hand signs and before long he had roughly ten clones all made up and spread out around the carriage.
"Move the cart! I'll distract them until you get up to speed!"
The carriage wasn't meant for a high speed chase but Atsuko knew if they got it going fast enough it'd be able to out run whoever was chasing them. Just who it was showed themselves rather quickly however once this was called out, five thugs dropping from the nearby trees. Atsuko kept the three remaining guards to have three clones for each of them, leaving one beside himself. With a whip of the reigns the cart began to surge forward as the combatants ran a long side it. At first the fight was more scouting then anything else, both oppositions only exchanging glancing blows with one another. The clones provided enough of a factor to cause the bandits to hesitate but it wouldn't be permanent. By the time they were at full running speed he had lost eight of them, only two left. The bandits themselves were getting more confident.
Initially they had thought that Atsuko might have been a real shinobi. When he didn't use any techniques however as the fighting continued this fear dwindled. Atsuko had to think, and fast. None of the five had been killed but they also weren't particularly skilled at fighting. A few cuts here, bruises, minor injuries had been received by all of them. Unfortunately the remaining guards suffered far worse. Which meant there was one likely option that had to be done. Run.
"Get on the cart, NOW"
The last two clones would bum rush the bandits as Atsuko urged the guards onto the cart. As he was pushing the last one on the speed of the carriage picked up again. This left the help with more of an actual push, the cart was beginning to get lost to Atsuko. His fingers stretched out in a desperate attempt to grab the guards hand but it was lost.
Atsuko skidded to a halt. If he kept running the bandits would to, they'd catch up. "You boys go ahead a while. If you don't see me catch up....don't let your guard down"
Without waiting to hear a response Atsuko turned to face his opponents, dual kunai's in hand. He only hand four of them left, his shuriken were already gone. Now, so were his clones. At first Atsuko was managing to hold his own, keeping to stepping back as blows rained in from all sides in front of him. However he was already tired. Move by move the bandits landed more and more hits, choosing to use their fists at this point. They were close enough and not in a high speed chase to see that Atsuko was just a boy, they were going to enjoy this beat down. It didn't take long before Atsuko was completely surrounded on all sides. One of his kunai had been kicked out of his hand, leaving only one good hand to speak of.

CRUNCH
Atsuko bit his lip hard to stop himself from screaming as the bandits boot dug its way into his knuckles, kunai kicked away. He was at this point down on the ground, with his hand firmly under the boot of the leader.
He felt a rough hand roughly grab his hood and yank it back, followed by a chorus of laughter as his head was lifted up.
"Would you look at that boys? This ones a youngin, AND he brought a damn lizard to the battle field!"
The sentence made Atusko's blood run cold. Almost immediately he attempt to free himself but was only met by a swift kick to the side of his head, sending stars across his vision and ringing in his ears. When his vision returned he was met with the sight and sound of his beloved pet, the one thing he had kept close to himself ever since he left the village, being kicked and thrown around like a ball. The sight was enough to send tears down his face, his voice weakly croaking out.
"stop.......stop.......STOP"
These words fell on deaf ears of course, yielding only another chorus of laughter. It burned in his very core, far more then any of his physical injuries. Every man had some sort of breaking point. It was usually the ones that had the coolest heads that were the hardest to crack. But when they did crack, it was horrific.
The boot that had been stomping on his hand was now to busy kicking his beloved pet. Atsuko wasn't sure what it was but next thing he knew he was up, off the ground, and running at his closest target. His right hand shoved his boot kunai deep into the mans throat, practically tearing it forward and free to continue forward before it'd bury firmly into the second ones chest with a audible crunch of bone. Blood sprayed the air, and the faces of the remaining three. With one more kunai in hand Atsuko wouldn't give them a chance to recover, or at least the one other he could reach. A knuckle strike to the throat would collapse the mans wind pipe, sending him to the ground clutching his neck as he gasped for air desperately.
The two that remained now had formed up properly and began to circle the boy. The confidence that had built up in their eyes seemed to have faded. This wasn't a case of bullying, this was life or death. To Atsuko they looked like nothing more then a pair of animals.
Much like a pair of animals when one struck the other did, mad lunges coming at Atsuko from both sides. It was if he knew what was coming next. With a swift back step he'd allow the two to crash into one another for a moment before burying his kunai into ones side, sliding through the rib cage hitting a lung. This left the last one. As he struggled to shove his now dieing friend off of him Atsuko quickly picked up the kunai that had previously been kicked from his hand when he was on the ground and simply shoved it into the mans temple. No words. There were beyond that.
Carefully Atsuko leaned over and lifted up Asumo, fingers feeling for a heart beat. thumpthumpthump
They were alive. Which was about the best he could ask for. After moving down the road he spotted the carriage which, to his surprise, had headed back to check on him. The guards swiftly hopped off the cart and helped the injured boy onto it, before they road off to their destination. Once they delivered the goods they'd be heading back to Takumi anyways
