Auto-bio stuff.

I was nervous opening the envelope with the comments and results, but pleasantly surprised. My tutor said that anyone who gets an A should certainly consider sending out their work to writing magazines... I think I will. I mean, I don’t have anything to lose in doing so, and maybe a few bucks to gain if anyone actually picks it up/likes it.

I don’t know, I felt the need to share this with you guys (I’ve also noted that most of my topics have that line somewhere in them). I’m a bit nervous in sending it out, and I still need to pick which publication/s to send it to.

Do you think I should I send it out?
Has anyone here got a lot of experience with that?
(Sending out work, be it writing, art, etc. I know there are a fair few writers and artists here, so I figure that at least one of you might.... eh?)

Edit: also, my mum just took the piece to work to read. I’m a bit nervous about her reading it. Not that it has anything to do with her at all, but just that.. I dunno, her opinion means a lot to me and I don’t want her to think it’s corny. She said she likes my writing, but she’s only ever read reviews and article I’ve written, not creative (despite it being auto bio, I tried to distance myself and bring a different element to it...) writing...

Yay. x3
I don't think my stuff is good enough to send out, personally (especially since I've just started actually writing creative writing rather than non-fiction stuff). But I'm not sure I ever will. xD; Might try it one day just for the experience though. My professor has been trying to let us experience and learn what we can about submitting work.

I'm not sure if it's different over there, but I know most markets over here don't pay at all, so you might just want to think about it as an experience rather than hoping to get paid along with the fun experience. My fiction professor has gotten paid like $5 one time. You pretty much have to enter competitions and such to get money.

The piece sounds more like "Creative Non-fiction"? I'm not sure if it's an actual genre, but I've seen that phrase used a lot to describe works that are based on real life events but are written like a story and added to a bit.

Send it out. It's not like you have anything to lose. You might just get rejection slips.

Though, if you professor hasn't mentioned it, you might want to ignore the "no simultaneous submissions" rule most markets have. Otherwise, you're going to be waiting months to be able to submit it to the next market. Normally you don't get accepted by more than one. If you do, you might be asked to never apply to the market you cancel on, but I think my professor mentioned it only happened to her once.
