The man belched out a great, booming laugh as Houou hopped on the cart, then wandered off for a minute. He returned with a mule, which he hitched to the front of the cart and kicked into gear. After navigating through some of the more crowded streets on foot, he jumped onto the cart himself and called back to Houou, this time at a much more reasonable volume:
"We're heading out to the crossroads, kiddo. Get me there in one piece and I'll have another job for ya."

The last few months were a whirl of memories, both dark and not. The giant tree that everyone apparently now lived on corrupted the land she called home, and... agonizing pain as something ate her from the inside out, turning her, she thought, into one of the Sero's monsters. Apparently that hadn't been the case, but she could hardly remember the transformation to begin with. All she knew was that she woke up in a hospital weeks later and went ballistic, nearly killing one of the head doctors there. It could have been the end of her for a second time in what to her was a very short period. And yet here she stood.
Except where was here?
Miyuki looked up from her daydreaming with a glance around. Sometimes, still, it felt like she blanked out for periods of time, which could possibly be what happened this time too. The Sero tree didn't appear to be anywhere in sight, and no mist obscured this place. No wait, she'd gotten bored after the graduation ceremony--hopefully after the graduation ceremony, and wandered off. This was... Takumi? A small recollection of visiting the town with her parents crossed her mind, before everything went weird. That was another side effect of what happened. Her memories from before were about as scattered as her usual bird-brained behavior. If she remembered right, they'd been there to sell something, though the details of that were missing too.
Scowling slightly, the rose-haired girl swung around to head the opposite direction, where she remembered a place she'd gone to eat before, and turned straight into someone. A child? Not that she could really say that, as she wasn't much older herself, but the girl appeared younger than herself, with similarly colored hair and, oddly enough, eyes as well. Or they should have been if it weren't for the dark sclera that surrounded her own vibrant eyes. "Ah... sorry." She took a step back holding her hands in front of her apologetically. Well, since she'd already made contact with someone, assuming the girl didn't just continue on her merry way, she might as well confirm where she was. "Sorry to bother you, but... this is Takumi, right?" She was almost certain that was the case, but again, her scrambled memories left her a little hazy. "Do you know what direction the docks are? It seems I've accidentally ended up here."
'Accidentally' was one way to put it. How she managed to end up across the water from the islands that made up the Land of Water was beyond her.

|
 "Poomf!" was the noise Luna made, both physically and vocally, when she collided with a stranger in her dizzying attempts to make sense of this crowded hubbub. Almost in time with Miyuki's apology, Luna apologized, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to." From below the hands that had been raised to rub her head where it had been bumped, Luna looked up a little fearfully. She hoped she hadn't accidentally bumped into the wrong person.
When she was asked a harmless question about location, a silent sigh escaped Luna. Her shoulders, which had tensed without her realizing, relaxed. She hadn't been threatened. That was a good sign. "Yes, this is Takumi," Luna answered, only realizing now that this girl had similar colored hair and eyes as her. Her face struggled to express emotions, so her only reaction was eyes widening. Still wide-eyed, Luna would shake her head. Her answer had been paused for a bit while she took in the hair and eye color of Miyuki, but it continued now, "Um, but I don't know where the docks are. Are… Are you lost? I'm lost too!". Oh, some unexpected enthusiasm. Maybe it was because of the shared eye and hair color and Miyuki not being much older than Luna, but like a child, Luna felt like Miyuki was very similar to her, and similarity made it easier for her to try and connect.
Though, not everything was the same. It wasn't just the shade of the hair and eyes. Luna saw, when she first noticed the color of Miyuki's eyes, the darkened sclera. However, she didn't feel bothered by it at all. She didn't know why, nor did she really think about why. It didn't bother her, so it didn't cross the child's mind to think about it.

After the both of them apologized profusely for running into one another, the girl confirmed Miyuki's original assumption that this was indeed Takumi, which helped her relax, even if only slightly. It was comforting to know that someone else had no idea where they were, as odd as that sounded. But she also sympathized with the girl, obviously. As this sort of thing happened frequently to Miyuki, she didn't particularly care, other than the sense of dread that came with the prospect of likely getting in trouble. And this time it was to get her headband from the new-ish Mizukage, who, in her experience was usually a grouch. She half wondered if he'd even allow her to have one after this. She grimaced slightly at the thought but a grin quickly plastered itself on her face again.
Miyuki took another look around, this time in search of an adult that might look even vaguely like the girl in front of her, figuring maybe she lost her parents, given her age. Her search was fruitless, and her odd gaze returned to the still nameless pink-eyed girl standing before her. A person shoved their way past her, reminding Miyuki that they were standing in the middle of the way. With a small frown after the person, she finally responded. "So, uh... what should I call you? I'm Miyuki." She shook her head and then continued. "Where are you trying to go? Maybe we can find it together, and in the meanwhile I'll figure out how to get to the docks!" Maybe a little overenthusiastic, but it came in response to the girl's enthusiasm, so she couldn't help it. Turning on her heels she headed back down the street in the same direction as the general flow of the crowd without waiting for an answer, assuming the girl would follow. It was only when people began to disperse and split off down different roads that she stopped to check that she had been followed. After all, it would be easier to talk if they weren't being shoved around.

Miyuk'si, as Luna now knew her as, positive attitude lifted Luna's spirits. "Luna... Luna is my name," the little girl clumsily introduced herself, "Um, and yeah. It's nice to meet you."
At the same time, Luna was trying her best to keep up with Miyuki. Luckily, Miyuki wasn't as tall as Houou, but somehow that only helped a little. Compared to Luna's timid steps through the crowd, Miyuki's confident strides almost left Luna behind once even if the the two were going with the flow of the crowd. That first time Luna almost lost Miyuki, which came right after her introduction, elicited a quick reaction from the child to reach out and grab Miyuki's cloak. The pressure of not pulling Miyuki's cloak away from her body proved enough to get Luna to find some way to stick closer to the older lass.
After securing that she wouldn't lose this new acquaintance, Luna revealed what it was that she was looking for in this wide, wide town, "I... I came here to try and learn how to make masks, I guess? I don't know where to start, though..."
While Luna hesitated on how to better word her question, it was about now that the two girls paused, Miyuki to check on Luna and Luna because she was following Miyuki. Again, Luna found herself face-to-face with the eyes that were like her's but not and the question, "Why don't your eyes have any white?" slipped through with Luna realizing.

A tug on the thick cloak she wore told Miyuki that the girl, named Luna, had just barely managed to keep up with her. While it wasn't intentional to make her get lost a second time, she also trusted, in a way, that the girl would keep up with her. Call it intuition. Or something. Where to find a mask? Wait, no, make a mask is what she said. Why a mask, with that cute face?
Anyway, the best place would probably be somewhere with woodworking... Without responding, at first, she turned head down a street in a direction that might have been the crafting district, although she didn't honestly know which way was the right way. But then she paused and faced Luna with a dark grin. She held her hands up to either side of her like claws, with the intention of looking scary, or as scary or intimidating as a fifteen year old girl with pink hair could look. "It's because I'm a monster," she replied, her grin widening. But then the happy-go-lucky attitude returned and she laughed. "I'm just kidding!" Spinning in a full circle in place, she started off again, heading in the opposite direction she was originally intending on going. There was no point pretending she knew, because for all she knew they could be wandering for hours.
Expecting Luna to grab a hold of her cloak once more, she marched off on their adventure, wherever that would lead.
