So I bought a cross-trainer last week, and right now I'm doing about 5 miles (8km) a day on it. I'm a bit clueless about exercise, so I was wondering if this is a good amount, if I should do more, or less, or if you guys just have any general tips for me. :3 thanks!

8 kilos?! Dang... Aren't your legs dying from it? o _ O
I had to run 10 K for PE and felt like just collapsing the days after...
But then there were some guys who ran it and finished without getting out of breath at all. So I suspect that as long as you can handle the load and don't feel any pain afterward, it's fine...
But also... how fast are you going? In some cases it's better to go a bit faster but cover less distance.
As for tips, I'm a frequent user of the cross trainers in my school gym, and I say to you that when you're on it that's a great time to catch up on TV shows or reading. :3

It's not about the distance, but the time. It takes a half hour of constant moving for your body to lose any body fat. Try to go for an exorcise of 30 minutes, and increase your workout by five minutes every other day.
