Name: Branwen Found: 1/31/10 Temper: Gentle Species: Wind-Kalona Parents:Neva and Megapi Siblings:Metawa and Shula Half-siblings by Neva: Zulfi Shi'jin, Tah'Kailen, ??? Half-siblings by Megapi: Hal O'Ween, Brimstone, Bloodstone, ??? Grandparents:Adelle and Shihab Aunts:Del'Nal, Lavanya, Alinore Uncles:Andre, Eton, Gideon, Cygnus Mate: None Children: Adopted: Stellina, Fiametta With Lafayette: Alani, Ysolde, Lucian Grandchildren:Ravenna, Yukio, Xander Familiar:Gethen Herd: Fiamma Eterna History: Born as the youngest daughter of a kalona skinwalker and a mare hell-bent on destroying her family, Branwen didn't have the easiest life. Neva, Branwen's mother, abandoned her three foals as soon as they were born, leaving them with their parents. It was her hope that the foals would wreak havoc on her family and tear them apart. With Metawa and Shula -the other two foals- that seemed possible, but Branwen was the black sheep. She wanted nothing to do with her kalona heritage, didn't want to be a terror like her sisters. This made her an easy target for taunting and abuse from the older two, the scars under her right eye proof of that.
Growing up, she spent most of her time with her aunt, Alinore and her at-the-time partner, Blake. In every way but blood, Ali and Blake were Branwen's parents, even if it did take some time to convince Blake that she wasn't like her sisters. As a foal she didn't notice too much, but once she was grown she realized the cautious or negative reactions others had towards her because of her looks. She became determined to show everyone that she wasn't a monster like her siblings and parents. But on more than one occasion she lost faith in herself and feared that she would become like them. It took the wise words of her grandmother to convince Branwen that she needed to educate herself about the kalona heritage rather than try to shun that part of her.
It was then she decided to find a kalona to teach her. But being as peaceful as she was she was afraid to do it alone. That's where her aunt Lavanya came in. She introduced her niece to Lafayette, the son of her chivalry instructor. Lafayette's initial reaction to her was less than dignified, but after agreeing to help and spending some time traveling with Branwen, he learned to trust, and eventually love, her. Though she never found a kalona to teach her, Branwen was quite happy to call off her search and live with Lafayette and his family.
Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to last. Branwen's memories of her life before were all lost - her love, her family, her entire identity. If it weren't for her familiar, Gethen, she wouldn't have known her own name. The first thing she could remember was being found bloody and scared by a stallion named Ethan. How she had gotten in that state was as much of a mystery to her as everything else. Regardless, Ethan took her into his herd and they cared for her until she was healed. They extended an offer to become a part of the herd, but Branwen felt she needed to find answers - considering Gethen wasn't offering up any. She left with the hope that she would find someone who recognized her and could tell her who she was.
She met many others in her search and though she was in need herself, she offered her assistance when she could. A father needing help with his son, a mare lost in the woods. She was more than happy to help them, even if Gethen insistently protested against talking to strangers. But none of them recognized her. It was a conflicting mix of joy in helping others and dismay at no one knowing her. Branwen wouldn't let that dissuade her from pressing on, though. She would find someone eventually.
During her search she came across Astúcia and Veraç, a father-son duo of pure kalona heritage (for the most part). Though the meeting was initially tense, they all warmed up to each other quickly and the two offered to escort Branwen to a safe space for the night. Branwen took this time to get some answers about her own kalona lineage. The two stallions very patiently answered all of her questions to the best of their ability. When they parted ways the next morning Branwen felt as though she had a better understanding of herself. But there were still many questions left unanswered.
Some time later Branwen came across something that completely changed the direction her life was going. Tucked away in the underbrush a pair of baskets sat with no sign of their parents anywhere. Branwen waited days for anyone to come and claim the baskets but when the foals emerged and still no one had passed by she knew there was only one thing to do. They were her children now. Being a mother seemed to come naturally to her and though she explained the situation to the twins they were happy to call her their mother. It was the first time since leaving Ethan's herd that finding her family wasn't at the forefront of Branwen's mind. This was the happiest she could ever remember feeling. And even though Fiammetta was handful and Stellina was quite and skittish, she loved caring for the fillies. This wasn't the family she was searching for, but she had found one nonetheless.
And then one stormy night Fiammetta disappeared. Branwen and Stellina searched endlessly for days but never found any sign of the fiery twin. Devastated and exhausted the two found themselves somewhat lost in the woods. It was then that Neria found them and offered to take them back to her herd. After a few days of rest Branwen realized she needed somewhere safe and with a community to raise Stellina. She couldn't risk losing her as well. She approached Lutra, the herd's leader, and asked if they could stay. He gladly welcomed them and Branwen took on the role of lantern bearer. Over time the two became comfortable as members of the herd and even started to think of the other members as family. In the back of her mind though, Branwen still wished to find the family she had initially sought.
(Gethen is also there always I should probably mention him a little more)
Name: Redondo Found: 2/14/10 (V-Day couples raffle) Temper: Flamboyant Species: Mutant Wind Parents: N/A Siblings: N/A Mate: None Children: With Emille: Rosiotti, Louvia, Ailbhe Familiar: Chessire History: (stolen from Elfy) Redondo is a stranger to these parts, and one of the strangest in these lands...a flying tiger Soquili.... He's a bit of a flirt, though love for Nirmala, whom he calls Butterfly, has settled this tendency down a lot. When he met Nirmala, Nirmala was unimpressed with him, being a somewhat racist Butterfly, and insisted on stabbing him with her knife when he flirted with her. Intrigued by this, he has fallen in love with her, very deeply, to the point where he goes into a jealous sulk when she's around other stallions. What was at first a dysfunctional relationship of him cuddling her and her stabbing him, with him periodically taking her wings in his teeth to dissuade her from attacking him has developed into a situation where she sleeps in his mane at night while he sleeps curled up on a vast branch in his favorite ancient oak tree. So much for her claims that she only likes Flutters. After they have a fling, in his case for some revenge for her breeding with a Flutter stallion who's only using her and in her case because she found an interested Flutter stallion who'll throw her away afterward on the basis that he finds Flutters vastly inferior to kalonas and go back to his kalona mare, Nirmala's going to come back to the only stallion who professed to love her...Redondo. Redondo loves kids, so doesn't want his kids and their mother to suffer from the fact that he bred with their mother out of spite. He'll visit them at least once a week, in compensation of sorts for what he did to them. It has been discovered that Redondo is actually a member of one of the subclans of the Cheshire Clan, a tricky feline clan including such characters as the Cheshire Cat and the Tulgey Cat. One of his ancestors in the clan went wandering away from the council grounds one day and had children outside of the clan proper. Breeding outside the clan accounts for his wind blood, and it is entirely probable that some of Redondo's ancestors came from China. This particular subclan is proud of its feline traits and adopts a rather feline disposition; it's trait is the wind wings, surprisingly. It's just an additional reason the subclan doesn't spend much time around the council; they feel awkward for the subclan trait being bird wings. Redondo's grandmother is the current queen, and while she spoils Redondo for being such a prime example of the subclan, she is thoroughly miffed by his continued and insistent absence from her side. He just finds his grandma a bit overbearing most of the time, which is why he left. Definitely an increasingly enigmatic feline.
Name: Rosiotti Found: 11/14/10 Temper: Self-Assured Species: Mutant Angeni-wind Parents:Redondo and Emille Siblings:Louvia and Ailbhe Grandparents:Meru and Albert Aunts:Merashik and Damia Uncles:Syuveil Mate: None Children: With Mystic Lyric: Mephianse, Ros'lyn, Elun'dris Grandchildren:Siroccan, Lyra, Lyonel, Valyrian, Rohanne, Ygritte Familiar:Leires Herd: Mahapadma History: Thanks to a mostly absent father, Rosi was left as the only fluffy, winged, purple-maned stallion in his family and that left him feeling a bit like the odd one out. And even though a brief encounter with his grandfather reminded him that he wasn't the only male in the family, the overall sense of righteousness they all seemed to have only made his feeling worsen. He had no desire to protect the weak and to fight off evil. All he really wanted to do was chase mares. And, eventually he left his family to do exactly that.
He flirted with any mare that came across his path but never really settled with any of them for very long. Until he met Lyric. Something about her managed to keep him around long enough for him to actually start falling. He was truly in love with her. But (THEN SHE LEFT HIM one way or another it hasn't actually been decided yet oops). Upset, hurt, and most of all disgusted with himself for allowing such a bond to form, Rosi wandered around aimlessly, sulking over his loss. It was in this weakened state that he came across the skinwalker Samsara and his life took a very interesting, and very dark turn.
After proving his worth to the skinwalker, and discovering his own lust for bloodshed, Rosi joined her herd of malevolent creatures. He helped Samsara in her plot to bring ruin to her family, all the while reveling in the chaos they wrought. And he found himself longing to impress the skinwalker, to have her undivided attention. After their attack on Padmapani he began looking for a way to truly impress Samsara. That's when Leires showed up. The raven convinced Rosi that his best option was to become a skinwalker himself. They struck up a deal, Leires would help Rosi obtain the corpse powder and Rosi would use Leires as his pelt once the stallion had been cursed. Once the deal had been made, they immediately set out on their search.
His first memorable encounter with one of the skinwalkers was Kumiho. She was the first purewalker he'd ever seen, and the first to promise him corpse powder. For a price, of course. The head of Balrog, the patriarch of a large herd of wind soquili, or one of his children. It didn't sound like Rosi's chances of success were very high, but his desire for the powder was greater than his fear of injury (and he was too arrogant to believe he would die), so he agreed to her offer.

Name: Mariselle Found: 10/31/10 Temper: Spooky Species: Usdia Parents: N/A Siblings: N/A Mate: Unofficially Ozé Children: With Sugar Skull: Mournful Marigold and Tober With Th'onit: Eisheth and Hallowtide With Ozé: Merry and Morose Familiar: None History: As far as anyone can tell, Mariselle's always been a little...different. Her basket was left in the cursed graveyard and how she managed to survive as a foal has never really been clarified....And she'll certainly never give any believable answer. She claims that a family of spirits raised her and taught her their spirity ways. Spirity ways meaning ridiculous rituals that no one has ever heard of and that don't seem to make any sense whatsoever.
She also claims that her marking speak to her, referring to them as the Pumpkin and the Owl. The Pumpkin is supposed to protect her from jinxing herself, but he's lazy and doesn't really do his job. The Owl, on the other hand, protects her from harmful spells. Apparently, the reason they don't talk to anyone else is because they don't like strangers and only speak to those that they know well. That meaning only Mariselle since she tends to be too distracted to stick around any one Soq for but so long.
Name: Celeste T.L. Requiem Found: 1/6/11 Temper: Evasive Species: Wind Parents: N/A Siblings: N/A Mate:Mar Children: Mariam, Marion, Marlea, Maia, Ceres, Juno Adopted:Sonata, Dire, Perish, Ozé, Encore Grandchildren:Taniwah, Charybdis, Irukandji, Merry, Morose Familiar: None History: Celeste not so politely tells you to bugger off because it's not any of your business. All you need to know is...
After being chased from her herd, Celeste traveled east, moving from human village to human village and avoiding any contact with other Soq. She was more afraid to be with her own kind than the two-leggers. She had no clue where she was going and just followed where ever the humans led her. It wasn't until she reached the main Kawani village that she finally made contact with another of her kind.
It could have been that she'd reached the limit of her loneliness and had to interact with another Soquili. It could have been the curiousness of a breed she'd never seen before. Or it could have been something as cliche as fate but whatever it was, Celeste was instantly intrigued by Mar the moment she saw him in the village. She found herself following him back to his home at the lake and somehow an awkward and unusual friendship was formed. And eventually that friendship turned into love.
They started a family together, raising three rowdy foals. Celeste was grateful two of them didn't show any wind traits. But Mariam's wings meant nothing but trouble to her. Being completely terrified of heights, Celeste had never been able to fly herself and she projected all of those fears onto her daughter whenever the filly brought up learning to fly. It was a source of constant conflict between the two and put a strain on the rest of the family. A final confrontation on the subject resulted in Mariam storming off to find her own teacher and Celeste feeling rather guilty for chasing off her daughter.
Things were sullen and quiet for a time after that. And they only grew quieter when Marion and Marlea set out to start their own lives (though they visited often, much to Celeste's relief). Then Sonny showed up. A wish on a star brought a lonely little basket to the pair and they tended to it as if it were their own. Of course, when the foal emerged with a set of wings Celeste nearly had a panic attack. Thankfully, the filly was less insistent on learning to fly than Mariam was and Celeste was more willing to let her learn. Things went much smoother this time around. Sonata grew into a vibrant, loving adult and found an equally loving partner. Which also meant that she would be making a new home away from the lake.
But just as Mar and Celeste were beginning to feel the emptiness of their home, another little one found his way to them (Dire)...
