So insomnia kicks in and I decide to get some more studying done. I'm listening to a lecture on breast and cervical cancer screening and the lecturer brings up cervical cancer myths, the last myth being that men can get it. The lecturer joked that you could probably find that somewhere on the net.

She definitely was not lying. It's pretty shocking to see such a lack of information out there as to what anatomy each gender does and does not have.

Wow that's sad, though i did once hear something about men being able to get breast cancer in their buttocks >.<

Next thing you're going to tell me we can't get ovarian cancer. talk2hand

But then, as I'm sure you know, there is an overabundance of medical misinformation on the web. Sometimes I wonder if there isn't more of that than factual information. stressed

Breast Cancer is rare but it does happen in men. But Cervical would be urethran track cancer in men. And yes, the testicles can have cancer too.

It's the fault of hands-off parenting and education systems. I remember instances at age 3 and 5 asking teachers about various body parts and what their function was. Instead of being given an answer, I was shamed in front of the other kids for being dirty, then made to stand facing a wall until my mother could pick me up. Thank god I discovered porn when I was ten, or as an adult I'd be going in to get screened for testicular cancer. rofl

Breast cancer can occur in men, and it happening in a mans buttocks is probably due to metastasis.

Although I do agree that the problem with the lack of knowledge is due to faulty education, I think the fault is more on the healthcare system itself due to a lack of outreach. I doubt many people know that you're supposed to get pap smears done once you're 21 or 3 years after you've been sexually active, or that you start prostate screens at 50, 40 if you're black or have a family history of it. There is a lot of erroneous information out there, but it should be a healthcare provider's duty to set their patients straight. As for those that don't regularly go to the doctor, outreach programs are the way to give them accurate info.

Cancer is like a mutated cell, surely anywhere in the body can get it.

see i always believed that breast cancer was cancer of the breast tissue, which is fat and mammary glandes, i just don't think it should be called breast cancer in men, i mean mostly for the reason that it's NOT IN THE BREAST!! It's in the buttocks! smile

i also agree on the topic of poor education. I when i final did start to learn about the body in detail, it was like the same information each year, never giving more information then the year before.

Everything that i learned going through puberty was from books my mom got me or doctors. Yeah i had some problems with that time....

Any cell can become cancerous, yes, but the origin of that cell determines the characteristics of the tumors that can arise and determine what treatments would be performed. Even in different organs, the type of cell that becomes cancerous may affect the prognosis of disease. In the case of cervical cancer, 95% of cases are due to HPV. HPV does not have such a high concordance rate with any male only cancers.

The breast cancer in the guy's butt may have originated from a breast tumor and spread down there by the bloodstream.

Nah. I'm kidding. I got a three, but bullshitted through it like there was no tomorrow. That was when I knew that I was done with it forever.

Well I am a med student so it's kinda cheating lol

I know nothing about music theory, but you're probably an ace. I couldn't tell you the difference between a diminished 5th cord and a minor scale (lots of statutory troubles there), all I pretty much know is that trumpets use the same notes as clarinets mrgreen
