It's a common thought that in order to lose weight, you need to watch how many calories you take in per day.

While this is true, it's MORE important to watch how much fat you're taking per day.

Let's say for instance you want a healthy snack. Most people would reach for something like popcorn... popped, one serving of popcorn is between 25-50 calories. This looks good, but have you looked at how much fat is in it? 13g!

Depending on how many calories you take in a day, the recommended amount of fat intake per day is between 50-90g.

So remember, low calorie is good, but watch that fat too. surprised

If there were 13g of fat in one serving of popcorn, then it would be at least 117 calories . . .
So that doesn't make sense . . .

Actually, it is best to keep your fat below 15-20g if you can, though for most people it is nearly impossible. You also need to try to get lots of protein and make sure you have your necessary vitamins and minerals before working on cutting calories back too far. The general healthy diet ranges from 1200-2000 calories, depending on your activity level and lifestyle. This came personally from a doctor to my mother.

With popcorn, really if you buy the kind that is unsalted and not buttered it is perfectly fine. Kettle corn is fine as well. You just have to watch what kind you are buying. Some of it has as little as 0-5g fat per serving and only 10-35 calories. (I checked my kitchen, we have a few different kinds lying around XD ).

I just checked a popcorn box and there is about 13g of fat in salted and buttered popcorn. It says that the kernels themselves have about 110g of fat per serving but after it is popped there are only 20g of fat per serving.

I think I'll start paying attention to the fat contents in stuff too.
Thanks for posting this.

You're welcome. :]

@ Frantic: Thanks for adding. :] I try to keep my intake between 20-30 a day, but it can be difficult. D:

@ Eccentric: Thanks for checking my math. Even if it's lower than 13g, it's still a higher percentage of fat than you want for a snack.
