So, I have been seeing a lot of posts pertaining to weight. As a sympathizer, who has struggles with weight since I hit puberty, I completely understand. Exercise isn't all it's cracked up to be and neither is dieting. I am 5'9" and weigh 162lbs thanks to Weight Watchers. I have been in a little over a month and lost 9 pounds! That doesn't sound like much but on a tall person that is a significant difference. I went down an entire pant size. The key to weight loss is to track what you eat. No matter if you are a member of a diet program or you're trying a diet or even reading a nutrition book, the most effective way to lose weight is to carry a little journal with you and jot down what you eat every day and record the nutritional value of that food/drink. It is all about moderation and learning how to eat in moderation.

Nutrition experts be the first to tell you, your whole diet doesn't have to change. If you want that slice of pizza, have it. Just note what else you've eaten that day and if it is really worth the calories, unsaturated fats, complex carbs, etc. I recommend making it a habit to stay informed about what is in your food and knowing what it is (i.e. the difference between simple and complex carbohydrates, un/saturated fates, aspartame, etc).

You have the choice to stay overweight or to try and lose weight. personally, I have joined weight watchers, cut meat (except for fish) out of my diet. I have cut soda out of my diet. I don't drink coffee. I drink a lot more milk/chocolate milk, water, and tea (NOT sweetened. Sugar=fat=calories=never having a swimsuit body). For exercise, which is tricky being a full time college student with 2 jobs, I try to walk around campus ALWAYS take the stairs, and if I have time I play Just Dance, Zumba, or The Micheal Jackson Experience. I even bought some work out videos that I do.

There are several other sources that can give you great information. Personally, I like hungrygirl.com and foodnetwork.com has several HEALTHY recipies!

I was thinking, if we maybe made a little sub-guild/forum to keep weight/diet trackers, it could be very motivational. We can even do it here. I think that it is VERY hard to stay motivated when trying to lose weight and eat right and if you have support and can be very beneficial. smile So, let's all work together to make healthier girls out of each other!

There are so many benefits to being healthier (NOT necessarily skinnier!): decreased risk of Diabetes type II, decreased risk of Breast Cancer, Increased energy (for exercise OR "exercise" wink ) [That was dirty. Sorry! redface ], you'll feel better about yourself, decrease of illness, increased positive self image, regular menstruation, lower stress, and so much more!

So let's work together to build a healthier guild and healthier girls in general!

If you feel you do not have the support you need from family/friends and are struggling, please don't hesitate to contact me via PM. I understand. My boyfriend (who is 6'3" and 150lbs--skinny freak! smile [I love that man!♥]) frustrates me because he doesn't think I need to lose weight when I am medically overweight. So, you can always vent to me or even come to me for ideas or words of encouragement and I will be more than happy to help out!

Tip/Challenge of the week: Cut ALL soda/pop/coke out of your diet! EVEN/ESPECIALLY diet! Diet sodas contain Aspartame which was turned down by the FDA SEVEN times!!! It causes many problems, particularly in women, including INFERTILITY and uses cheap sweeteners which have been stripped of any nutrients if they even had any to begin with and then BLEACHED white for appeal.

Now, I know that posting up a before and after picture can be nerve racking and VERY uncomfortable, so, what if we all posted pictures of how big we are/feel we are that we sketch of ourselves? You don't have to be an artist, it's just a fun idea to try! As we progress, we can sketch more pictures if you want and keep putting them up to encourage the other girls. You are welcome to post a picture of yourself, too if you'd like or pictures from the internet. Have fun with it but at the same time, be honest and judgmental of yourself to motivate yourself!

Must you pay to do the weight watchers? o:
If it works for you, I'm assuming it really works, Lol.
Ya see, I'm 5'3" (short) and 185..
It seems the more I exercise though, the more I weigh.. which means I'm getting muscle, and I don't want it D:<

I pay for the full membership, yes; however, I think you are able to just attend meetings. I have a meeting tomorrow and I can ask about it for you. smile

Otherwise, you can do what I did. I asked my parents if I could join and they were really excited I wanted to, so, they offered to pay the monthly fee.

Ah... Well, we can't afford to pay a monthly fee on anything else D:
So... I'll just keep... trying to diet and not exercise. My coach says that gets rid of fat and not muscle~

My recommendation is to eat lots of power foods: namely fresh fruit. It's amazing for you! I am a vegetarian, so, I don't really eat meat but I can tell you, starting your morning with an apple for breakfast will give you a full, satisfied feeling that will last until lunch because it is full of fiber. smile

Make sure to start a food journal and track EVERYTHING you put in your mouth! Food OR Drink! You'll hold yourself way more accountable. Also, don't deprive yourself. It's O.K. to treat yourself to something good every now and then just make sure it is in moderation (appropriately measured to serving size). You;ll get on track in no time!

I have cut pop out of my life already, and I rarely miss it.
And aspartame actually preserves your internal organs like formaldehyde would ;D Tastyyyy.
So diet pop was the first to go, then regular pop too.

I just, I have trouble with limiting what I eat. I'm really really bad at relying on food as a coping mechanism and a vice. If I feel like s**t, I will eat until I feel better, or feel sick. And I feel like s**t a lot. I shop, too, sometimes, because buying stuff makes me feel happy until about the point where I get home and realize I don't feel happy anymore. But the amount of money I have to spend limits what I buy; there's very little limiting how much I stuff in my face.

I need to stop doing it but it's so hard. I'm so hard on myself, criticizing myself constantly, but at the same time I'm so lenient with myself, allowing myself to eat as much as I feel like I need to eat to feel better.

But I'm going to ask for a membership to this new fitness place that opened up a little while ago, they do pole dancing and aerial yoga, fun stuff rather than straight-up cardio that makes me cringe, so I think I'll be able to stick to it.
I just need to get my driver's license first :/ I was so close to passing last time, but I did some epic stalls, so I didn't pass :/ I'd join now, but it's impossible to catch a bus going that direction at that time of evening D; I hate these stupid buses. And mom's never home, she's always at her boyfriend's, so I can't ask her to drive me there.

I know what you mean about the soda! Icky.

As far as the overspending, overeating goes try to practice moderation. If you are going shopping go to the atm and take out like 25-50 USD and no more. You'll force yourself to have a budget and won't have to worry about overspending. Also, try to limit yourself to shopping on Saturdays only (or whatever day is most convenient). For overeating, I carry gum. I have Extra Desert Delights (Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream flavored). Also, I have subbed out cravings by painting my nails. A craving lasts only about a half an hour, so, if you have to remove your nail polish, wait for it to dry, and then repaint, you'll come up about even without feeling a craving. There is also another little trick I learned that I do NOT recommend frequently. This is only if you have something big that day that will take a lot of pointplus/calories! I eat tums to kick my hunger. If you do this every day it IS considered to be hand in hand with eating disorders (specifically anorexia, so, don't make the Tums trick a habit..
