I found out about this because I got an email from THE HOTMAIL POSTMASTER (postmaster@mail.hotmail.com) about how a message was undeliverable. I did not recall sending any emails lately and so I opened the message. It informed me that I sent an email to one dianshiji220@hotmail.com with text just of 'asd' and that's it. Googling that undeliverable email gave me results that make me think of some sort of WoW gold farmer.

I ran spybot and am running AVG now, and spybot did not give me any results. I changed my hotmail password already.

I'm assuming that it was a 'test' email to see if my email was hacked. I very recently changed my hotmail password, but considering I'm an idiot and until recently only used a few passwords, I may have changed the hotmail password to what my PSN password was instead of the other way around.

The message was said to be sent at 7:33 AM, and I was asleep at that time. However, the computer was left on all night with youtube open so that could be a porblem as well.

My other email has not had any issues or sent mail.

Also I have been getting WoW phishing emails for months and months on my hotmail (I have been ignoring them) so it may simply be time to put that account to rest considering all my important s**t is linked to a different account.

edit: When I got home from work the password I had just changed it to didn't work. None of my other emails or accounts anywhere are having issues so idk what the ********.

I don't think/feel/believe you are in any danger. At least you changed your password as soon as you noticed. Generally you run a greater risk if you opened the mail fully, and downloaded an attachment.

It's happened to me before on Gmail. I just ended up changing passwords on it, and changing passwords on accounts that are linked to Gmail that I felt were important.

I run 3 different emails.
- Hushmail (recently)for all my highly important accounts because while being here, I pretty much do all my transactions and bill paying online. Hushmail seems currently like the most secure webmail platform at the moment. (Well, as far as I can see.) -- That is all it is for. Completely separate from anything with social networking.

- Google Mail for correspondence.

- Hotmail for my spam dump or stuff that I just don't want to get notified often about (but still using a enhanced secure connection to login)

If you think that you do have some malware. I personally use SuperAntiSpyware as my one-time emergency cleaner, for free AV, I am generally between Avira Free (I like the high detection rates and historically better disinfection) and Microsoft Security Essentials (low footprint, tight Windows integration, and it is a competent A/V).

For XP users, I generally choose Avira AV/Online Armor Firewall combo or MSE w/Online Armor firewall because XP's default firewall sucks.

I say, if it happens again within a fairly short time, then there is cause for concern... close up that account permanently, draw up another one(perhaps do a full format of your system to make sure -- you know the old Aliens saying "I say dust off and nuke the site from orbit...it's the only way to be sure)...sometimes it happens when passwords are short enough (or haven't been changed recently) to be phished out. -- There is only so much you can do short of having no online presence at all.

I'd do what you said you would earlier...just make a new Hotmail account..especialy if it is overspammed like you said it is.

The only problem is it's still attached to my Xbox Live account and I need access to that email in order to do pretty much anything with my Xbox 360. I don't want payment confirmations going to that email.

I sent a password reset request for windows live, which wanted some information so they know I'm legit. Should be dealt with by the end of the week.

I'm just glad none of my financial stuff was tied up with that.

Was that e-mail in your sent mail folder?

It's pretty easy to spoof an e-mail address to make it appear as if it's from someone it's not. It could be that is what happened in your case.

It was in my sent email folder, yes.

Also I got the account back and changed the password and security question. Should be good.
