A bit of old news, but...
Former Nevada Sen. John Ensign apparently resigned on May 3 this year after being investigated because of violation in laws resulting from an extramarital affair to which he admitted in 2009. The affair, allegedly lasted from 2007 to 2008, happened in between him and Cynthia Hampton, whose husband Doug Hampton worked as an aide for Ensign.
With that said, this is also the guy who:
- In 1998, called out on then President Bill Clinton to resign after Clinton admitted his affair with Lewinsky. Ensign was quoted saying "[Clinton] had no credibility left."
- In 2004, speaking in favor of the Federal Marriage Amendment, which aims to define marriage between a man and a woman only, said "The effort to pass a constitutional amendment reaffirming marriage as being between a man and a woman only is being undertaken strictly as a defense of marriage against the attempt to redefine it and, in the process, weaken it" and that "Marriage is an extremely important institution in this country and protecting it is, in my mind, worth the extraordinary step of amending our constitution."
- In 2007, called then Sen. Larry Craig a "disgrace" after Craig was arrested and plead guilty to "disorderly conduct" in an airport men's bathroom (he was soliciting for sex).
- A member of Promise Keepers, a group that pledges to keep seven promises, 2 of which are "A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity" and "A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values".
Yes, preach about family and marriage values and then turn around and ******** your staffer's wife, that is what you should do as a Senator (Pardon my colorful language)!
The thing that ticked me off the most was not even that he committed an affair. People make mistakes, fine. But the most annoying thing was that this goes on to show what kind of people are obstructing the progress of marriage equality. This is the kind of people who are voting "no"s on laws that legalize gay marriage. I am once again disappointed in this country full of hypocrites - look who we give power into the hands of! Like it's not okay for gay people to marry but it's okay to go and ******** someone else's wife? Really?! *sigh*

Oh, for the record, Larry Craig was also known for his anti-gay stances before he was arrested for his gay "wide-stance" incidence (a joke made about him after his arrest. He never said "wide stance" per se, but when officers asked him why he reached his right foot across the stall to nudge the bait police officer's left foot, he said he was repositioning his legs; he doesn't know; he was a wide person, etc).
