Atrum_Anima Apparently it's "Gay and Lesbian Pride month" (sorry B's, T's, and everyone else). According to the White House us B's and the T's are included the title is: "Presidential Proclamation--Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month"

I feel kinda guilty that I didn't know this. .___.
But now I'm gonna tell my dad when he wakes up. He's gonna say how ironic it is that I was born in June. x3

There are a couple things I'm curious about- "My Administration has also taken steps to eliminate discrimination against LGBT Americans in Federal housing programs and to give LGBT Americans the right to visit their loved ones in the hospital." What is he talking about? The other thing is the whole paragraph on HIV/AIDS- like, I get that it had a huge impact on the LGBT community- but the way it's worded makes it almost seem like the Administration considers it a "LGBT Disease" ignoring the fact that Hetero couples have been the fastest growing victims of it. I understand the history- that the 70's through the early 90's in LGBT culture was dramatically affected by HIV and stuff- but it's really a Health Issue and not focused on one group of people.

The thing that bothers me is at the bottom - "the year of our LORD". I get his religious. I don't care either way. But there's supposed to be a separation of Church and State, so things like that shouldn't be in an official government proclamation...

That's pretty standard really- the Separation Clauses only says that the government will not establish religious rights at the expense of other religions. This doesn't violate the Lemon Test- so it doesn't count.

I just found out myself, through babble.com and their post about shirts that Old Navy has for sell, apparently 10% of the proceeds go to the It's Get Better Project.I so want to get one for Sophie, they're adorable as heck. As for the proclamation, it's nice that he did make a public announcement like that, but it just smacks to me of propaganda. Also, how public was this announcement? Yes, it's on the White House website, but is it known to those who don't normally peruse sites like that at all?
