Sooo, I've been unemployed for 6 months now. I've been trying really hard, looking every day for something, and with little luck. I wish I had my boyfriend's luck; he gets calls for at LEAST 50% of all applications he puts in, even if he uses the same methods as I do. My luck is a little bit more than 2%.
But anyways, I keep a bookmark folder handy of jobs I'd like to apply to, but they only accept applications for current openings. One of them is a locally-owned exotic pet store, and I was incredibly disappointed to find out that I JUST missed the deadline last time they were hiring. I still check back every day, when I open all of those sites in tabs and browse for open positions.
Every now and again they post about how so-and-so employee completed this course or got this certification. And I'm soooo jealous. ;___; Pictures of them posing with adorable exotic animals. I DON'T CARE IF 80-90% OF THE JOB IS CLEANING POOP, I would LOVE to work with these animals and go through the courses and get certifications and stuff. I would even work with the tarantulas! Me, a mild arachnophobe (I used to be way worse), would be willing to work with the tarantulas if taught how to handle them properly. Ahsdjgjshghfsgdssaaaaaa.
I really wish I had gotten that job. D: I hope they have an opening in the near future. It sounds like an amazing job (EVEN WITH THE POOPCLEANING which I don't even mind doing at home because it makes my animals healthy & happy so ;-; ).

Cheer up, you'll get hired eventually! Do you call the places you apply to? You gotta call them or chances are even if they like your resume/app, you won't get the job.
And I know how you feel, I'm still on the mailing list for the aquarium I used to volunteer at before I moved, and whenever I get the newsletter I get so sad because I miss them <3 I love cleaning fish and snake poop.

Yeah, I always make sure to follow up after every application and interview. If I can't call or they ask people not to call, I email them if I can. I did get a response from this pet shop, but only to let me know that they had received my application and had several hundred other people applying as well, so they were sorting through everyone. x___x
That's one thing that sucks about living here: even if I do everything right, I'm competing with hundreds, if not thousands, of people for every single job. It's actually quite surprising, since it doesn't seem like a lot of people actually live here, but there's probably people who don't necessarily live in town and are willing to commute here for work.
I can't wait until we move. We're going to be living closer to an actual city (we're kind of a small town tacked onto a larger city) so I'll have a lot more options. I'm kind of limited because the bus only runs so early and so late, and if it's too far into the city then I'm not going to be able to make it there on time.

Did they say when they're going to start interviewing? I'd call again around that time or if they haven't told you, then in a week or so to keep yourself fresh in their minds and let them know that you'll be reliable ^_^ Good luck!
