Hidden deep in the woods is the Aphrodite School for Gifted Girls; across the road is the Mercury School for Gifted Boys. They're boarding schools, providing a great education as long as you can provide the necessary funds. Of course, these are no ordinary schools: They're schools for the races that have been lost to time and war, the elves and witches and half-faeries and occasional dwarf, the vampires and shifters and irregular species that are only occasionally seen, such as human mages. Of course, just because they're not human doesn't mean they don't act like them. Even though you're not supposed to travel between schools, it's a common practice for parties and the occasional dark ritual. The school itself extends into what is called a Secret Place, where the boundaries between the mortal world and the world of Faerie are thinned enough to allow a Between-Realm to exist. This allows the school to be much larger than it appears, but only to its students.

All the students are high-school age (or its equivalent) so there will be drama, various heartbreaks, and perhaps a life-threatening situation or two. The only thing that's certain in these schools is that nothing will be certain.

Races

Humans

You don't see a lot of humans in the schools for a reason: Most of them are regular. The only hint of humans in the schools are the half-fae, and the mages. The mages are, quite simply, humans who have become closer to the magic of Faerie, either by chance or design. They're considered 'dirty' by the other magic-wielding races, mostly because of their improbability and power. Many of the great witches theorized that, due to the fact that humans are farthest from Faerie, they are thus the closest to Faerie, ensuing the realm's improbable nature could continue. The mages are typically in classes teaching them to control their magic, and learning to use it effectively for the good of the Secret Places.

Elves

The elves, who refer to themselves as Alassians since they used to have a Secret Place that covered the entirety of North America and some of the Atlantic ocean named Alassia, are not the most peaceful bunch in the schools. Their history is full of them waging bloody wars against the dwarves over simple things like who mountains belonged to and against humans for slight offenses from many years ago. However, they are surprisingly gentle towards the wilderness. As most elves live to thousands of years, they have very long memories. An elven 'childhood' lasts anywhere from 100-150 years, and the 'teenage' years generally start at 200 years and end at 500, at which point they are considered adults. Elves are generally taught rage control, weapon mastery, wilderness survival and care, nature magics, and healing magics.

Half-Fae

The most common kind of half-faery is the half-piskie, who are generally short in stature and incredibly hyper and mischievous. Other half-fae are less common but still occur. There are still less half-fae than any other race, though, because the faeries are stuck in their realm permanently, lacking enough Secret Places to come into the mortal world. Only the strongest or the most clever faeries can use their magic to impregnate humans. Half-fae are generally taught impulse control, magic control, and how to tend to the Secret Places.

Witches

The witches are entirely female, although nobody knows why. Some witch historians theorize that because a woman was infected with faerie magic and then evolved into a witch, men can't handle the same adaptation. Witches are generally homosexual, not out of preference but requirement, as they can't reproduce in the same way as other races, literally requiring a woman. However, some are glad for this and do prefer men to women. They have the second-strongest magic, being literally infected with Faerie. Their bodies cannot handle anything other than flora, after millions of years of living in forests, at peace with the animals. They're the second longest-living race, often living to the healthy age of ten thousand before succumbing to death. However, their children are considered to be mature at almost the same rate as humans, adults at sixteen. They are generally taught all forms of magic, living with nature, and taking care of the Wild Places (the few places humanity hasn't tainted).

Dwarves

The dwarves rarely venture from the mountains they've retreated into. However, once in a while they send a dwarf up to the surface to trade information and supplies. They're the longest-living race, being almost immortal. As they say, they 'age with the stone'. Dwarves are considered to be adults at ten thousand years of age; their 'teenage' years generally last from 3000 to then. They are the strongest physically and unable to use magic in any form, but they're incredibly smart and clever. They're responsible for many of the technological leaps humanity accredits to itself. They have a long-standing rivalry with the elves (who considered the land in the mountains to belong to the dwarves and on the outside to the elves, while dwarves insisted the whole goddamn mountain was theirs) but can be civil when needed. They generally learn advanced science, dwarven history, and mechanics.

Vampires

They are, surprisingly, the most peaceful race. They are humans infected with Unseelie magic, and mostly male (it is hypothesized that the extra X chromosome in females messes with the bonding process for the magic, and thus there are very few female vampires) and entirely pacifistic. This is because they are incredibly strong, very fast, and can cloak themselves in darkness, and thus it'd be very unfair if they took sides. And they usually don't like killing, anyways. Instead, vampires usually manipulate their enemies. Vampires are considered fledglings until two thousand years of age, at which point they are considered matured and able to speak for themselves. They have certain laws, such as the fact that you can't drink from an unwilling victim or kill without reason, and breaking the laws can result in death. Oh, and due to the nature of their Unseelie magic, they're completely immortal except for the fact that it leaves them incredibly vulnerable to shifters and certain brands of bacon. (Don't ask.) They generally learn vampiric history, how to NOT fight, and magic control.

Shifters

They're the closest to human, except for one important difference: They can turn into animals. They're an incredibly violent and war-based race. They take on aspects of their animal at all times, from ears to scales to eyes, most often strength and speed and whatnot. They refer to themselves in a specific way. For example, if you shifted into a wolf, you would be a wolf-shifter. However, people who shift into lions and tigers both refer to themselves as cat-shifters. They have a hatred for the vampires for reasons nobody really remembers anymore, except for the witches, who insist on having nothing to do with it. They have a human life cycle, often cut short, as they like to attack humans as animals to sate their need for violence, as the vampires won't fight them. They are generally taught rage control, shape control, and the art of war.

If you have any other races you want to play, consult me with your idea.

Oh, look, rules. What, you didn't see this coming?

Please keep the basics of each race in mind when you make your profiles, okay? As in, not a lot of half-fae, no male witches, et cetera. Be respectful to your fellows and no killing without permission. Plot twists are welcome (just run them by me first, please) and I would like you to PM me profiles as "Ma serannas". Follow all the regular rules as well. And while there isn't a formal plot (YET) I would appreciate it if you didn't go crazy. Also, keep in mind that this is taking place in the modern time.

NOTE:
The classes I said are the ones that are generally taken by each race; they may take those classes, or they may not. You can add more mundane classes if you wish or make something up completely (although I'll have to approve those).

Girls in Aphrodite

Username: Asplosionator
Name: Spencer Shepard
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Race: Cat-shifter
Learning: Form control, rage control, English, French, war.
Bio: She was born to a prominent leader among the cat-shifters, and it was quickly discovered that she was a tiger and fell under the category of 'not to be ******** with'. She murdered three cat-shifters who looked at her the wrong way (literally, she wants you to look at her a certain way or the claws come out) and was quickly sent to the school to channel all her mindless aggression into war. Or at least figure out how to point her at their enemies.
Other: She actually doesn't hate vampires that much, figuring that they aren't worth her time, being a bunch of little pansy-a** tree-huggers who couldn't bite her if she strapped herself down. Also, she has a tendency to take what she wants when it comes to her partners. Also she has a kitten.
Appearance: User Image

Username: Animeprincess_9400
Name: Lisette Arthiane
Age: 435
Gender: Female
Race: Elf
Learning: Healing Magics, Nature Magics, Alassian History, Wilderness Survival/Care
Bio: Lisette is one of the calmer elves, generally trying to avoid conflict or any sort of spotlight. More than anything, she tends to try and focus her time and thought on her studies or her private garden. Only recently has the elf started coming out of her shell and speaking with others, although at this point in time, she currently only has two or three close friends at most. For someone so inclined towards her studies, Lisette is surprisingly optomistic and naive.
Other: Lisette has a secret fettish for cross-dressing. It's not uncommon for her to dress herself up as a man and to sneak over to the Mercury School for Gifted Boys when nobody is looking. For some reason, she feels less insecure and scared of socializing when dressed in a fancy tuxedo versus the skirts that she normally wears.

Username: Creamsicle Bunnies
Name: Katarina Queens
Age: Fifteen
Gender: Female
Race: Witch
Learning: Divination, charms, herbology, astronomy, astrology, and the basics of magic.
Bio: Katarina was born in a secluded environment with parents who were witches. At an early age, she was delved in the practice of magic and lore. The woods are like her first home, the house they had built near them her second. She has cooked up several potions of different kinds, many of them failures. Her mothers sent her to school for fear of their daughter’s lack of magical succession.
Other: She has a familiar, a cat, by the name of Sebastion.

Gender: Male
Race: Human
Learning: Cooking, English Literature, Science, History, Basics of Magic

Other:

Username: Creamsicle Bunnies
Name: Gabriel Valentine
Age: 1974
Gender: Male
Race: Vampire
Learning: Vampiric history, magical studies, literature, psychology, creative writing, and music lessons.
Bio: The Valentine family is a family with old money and with a long line of generations worth of famous writers, leaders, and council men. Even from a young age, Gabriel was chosen as the heir to inherit the name and wealth of the Valentine family and eventually be a politician in vampire affairs. He was quickly sent to the school when he came of age to shape into what his family wants him to be. Though a lot of pressure is placed upon Gabriel, he is only one of the friendliest, kindest, and generous of students. He is quite optimistic and hard working.
Other: Gabriel has formed a small talent in telepathy. His powers have limitations to only reading the mind of others only when in physical contact with them.
Appearance: User Image

Username: Creamsicle Bunnies
Name: Marcus Valentine
Age: 1723
Gender: Male
Race: Vampire
Learning: Astronomy, art, vampiric history, magic control, chemistry, and home ec.
Bio: Unlike his elder brother, Marcus didn’t have a name to live up to. He did have to go through several lessons in vampire and political affairs or meet his father’s clients. Truthfully, he couldn’t really care for his father’s work. Sure, it hurt him that he was ignored and never seen as important as his brother but it was better than being scolded all the time. Marcus was sent after his brother to teach him discipline since Marcus never took to authority all too well.
Other: Marcus has quite the skill in lock picking and sneaking around.
Appearance: User Image

Username: Valiant Fenris
Name: Francis De LaCrosse
Age: 1864
Gender: Male
Race: Vampire
Learning: Vampiric History, Human History, Dwarven History, Drawing, Magic Control
Bio: Like all Vampires, he hates killing. He will only fight to protect himself and others, but that is only very rare. Fascinated by history, he doesn't mind what kind he takes. Basic manipulation is hard for him, tending to only influence. He hopes to enjoy his days at Mercury
Other: Knows a form of Battojutsu (A form of sword fighting that involves the hilt and sheath, literally meaning "From the draw") for cases when Violence works on the enraged offender. Ragers are hardest for him to control.

Username:Shiningdragon21
Name:Kyo Nakamura
Age:16
Gender:Male
Race:Cat-Shifter (Lion)
Learning: Rage control, Shape control, Wars thru the decades, Strategies and the art of war.
Bio:A cat shifter that was a rarity at birth. As some in the animal kingdom do from time to time he was born having fur that was pure ivory. This at times would be a sign of weakness but kyo has proven that wrong making a showing of killing or dismembering anyone who thinks that weakness is in the color of his fur. He was put into the school after killing a few to many human's while he was walking around in his beast form. Since he had been put within the school he has calmed down somewhat usually causing more broken bones or other not so serious injuries then bloodshed from anyone that makes fun of his fur color.
Other: Hates the smell of vampires more then the vampires themselves. He doesn't care much for the wars of the old and if they mask there scent he doesn't see anything wrong with them.

Username: Mad Haru
Name: Sven Wasserman
Age: 327
Gender: Male
Race: Dwarf
Learning: Engineering, Mechanics, Psychology, Mad Science, The Bronze Age, History
Bio: Sven is a normal dwarf student, save one strange quirk. Due to problems with his back, he has to sleep on beds that are nigh-identical to a therapist's couch. As such, people often use his room for therapy, despite his many requests that they stop.
