So, I have recently been experiencing carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms, and have done before now, but never as severe as now. I've been putting ice and heat on my wrist/arm and wrapping it to support it. I have been doing my best to rest it and not use it as much as possible. I was wondering, could the way I hold my pen when I write draw been effecting my wrist? I draw all the time, and write quite a lot, so I understand the strain my wrist would be under. But people I know who draw and write just as often as I do are completely fine. I've always held my pen in a strange way, and am concerned that this may be speeding up the development of carpal tunnel syndrome. Could I be right?

First of all, talk to a doctor, it may not actually be CT but an inflamed tendon or strained muscles.
A lot of things can contribute to the wrist pain. Do you "choke" pens and pencils when you write/draw? I do and it causes me great pain and stiffness. I counter this by using thick grips to keep me from squeezing too hard.
I actually do have carpal tunnel and it can get pretty bad at times. It came about from a combination of computers + pencil choking + trombone.
What I do:
1) Reposition the way you rest your wrist on things. Having your wrist bent up causes more strain and pain. When I use the computer for extended periods, I position my laptop so my wrists stay horizontal or down and I don't use a mouse which causes upward bending.
2) Hot and cold treatments won't help much since the problem is the position of your bones and nerves, not your muscles. What does help relive pain and discomfort is a good, deep massage. It will help push things back to a more comfortable place.
3) A wrist brace made specially for carpal tunnel. I bought a good one at a pharmacy and I've had it for years. I put it on for every activity I know will cause problems such as typing long documents or driving long distances. If I'm having a bad CT day, I sleep with it.
