I'm constantly sleepy. I could lay my head down on something comfy at any given moment and fall asleep. And I'm sick of it. Now this had only been really bad the past week or so but it's been going on for a few months. It always seemed strange to me, especially because it was sudden, but I tried my best to ignore it and started sleeping in class after my work was done and trying as hard as I could to keep my focus. Also tried eating healthier, going to bed as early as I could and even taking sleeping pills on the nights when I couldn't sleep, taking vitamins recently, and it got a little better until now. I'm turning 14 in a month and I know that it could just be hormones, but I'm still concerned. I'm beginning to run out of energy even for things I like to do and people I like to talk to. In a week or two I'm going to get my thyroid checked but that's the only symptom of thyroid issues I have besides difficulty gaining weight and I'm also getting my blood sugar checked because my friend asked me to do it just in case and I told him I would since he was worried. The same friend also suggested that it might be stress but I find that unlikely because even though things aren't the best for me right now nothing has changed much. Anyways, girls, now that you have some kind of background I was wondering if any of you might have a clue what could be causing this or what it could be? I don't have any known personal history with medical problems that could cause it besides being prone to colds, but there are a lot of things that run in my family that might be although I'm not sure if I have any of those issues. But anyways. Thank you for reading.

Definatley go to the doctor. Testing for thyroid problems is a good idea! I've had mono a couple times before and every time I get unbelievably tired. And mono can last a very long time, with different symptoms in each case! That's the only thing from my experience that makes me like that (and is it even fair getting mono and never having kissed someone??!), but I'm sure there's a solution to this!! Hope the doctor can help you in this!! ♥

Being past puberty myself, the first things that would come to mind if you were older would be hypothyroidism and diabetes, which you've mentioned already. But knowing your age, it might just be hormone fluctuations. I know that PMS especially always made me super-tired for a week or two out of every month; maybe there's just an imbalance that's trying to work itself out. Maybe the doctor can test your hormone levels? It's just a simple blood test.

I just now remembered I haven't responded yet. xD Oh and update, mom called the doctor yesterday, and they said they would call her back if there was a cancellation this week since they're full and they told her to call back next week if she hasn't heard from them. So I guess that's good news. I didn't know that about mono. o: All I knew was that it's highly contagious. I'll have that checked for if I can. Thank you. ^^ I've never had problems with being more tired than usual around that time of the month really. The only thing I get are slight mood swings, cramps, and headaches. I tend to have a light flow and I usually get it every 1 1/2 to 2 months though so I don't know if it would be PMS, but I know that's not the only time hormones are changing and stuff. I'll definitely ask about getting my hormone levels checked as well. Thank you. : )

Have you tried drinking water and eating green veggies? Believe it or if you lack certain things the body needs it can have that sleepy effect on you.
Then again many things can. Diet, Stress, Depression, Apathy, or a big change in yourself or something around you. Doesn't have to be a bad change either.

Actually I drink water regularly, I make sure to get in one or two cups a day but I try my best to drink eight. As for green veggies I don't eat much of those since my mom doesn't buy them a lot. My diet is kinda bad but it's never caused me trouble before unless I go days and days without water. xD I don't think it's depression or stress either. I am a bit apathetic but I think that's because of my lack of energy.. I've never been extremely enthusiastic but when I do (or did) have energy I was a lot less apathetic.

Other than what has been mentioned by other guildies, I think the only other thing I can think of that may be wrong/out of balance is your iron levels. From what you've said about your diet, lack of greens could cause this, specially high level iron veggies such as spinach and broccoli. Red meat helps too......
Your diet might have never caused a problem before, but as you get older, it starts to need different things, especially in your stage in life.
Also...what are you sleeping patterns like? Are they regular? This sounds stupid, but I know when I'm not sleeping from 10pm - 8.30am, I get really sleepy and pretty much do what you've been doing.

Daffodil the Destroyer Being past puberty myself, the first things that would come to mind if you were older would be hypothyroidism Yeah, that will do it. My doctor put me on some pills for that a few years ago and it helped a lot. So you should have your thyroid checked out if your still having problems with sleep, or ask your doctor about a sleep study (really expensive though)

Wow, I forgot I made this thread.. hehe ^^; I finally got a blood test last week though (was out of school for a week and a half due to actually being too tired to get out of bed, so mom decided to get my blood tested to see if anything was wrong or if it was just flu). Although I've still been having issues with being tired besides that week and half, and I don't completely trust what my mom tells me, she said my blood work came back all fine. Stormgem Other than what has been mentioned by other guildies, I think the only other thing I can think of that may be wrong/out of balance is your iron levels. From what you've said about your diet, lack of greens could cause this, specially high level iron veggies such as spinach and broccoli. Red meat helps too...... Are they regular? This sounds stupid, but I know when I'm not sleeping from 10pm - 8.30am, I get really sleepy and pretty much do what you've been doing. I don't know exactly what my iron levels are, but apparently they're within normal range. I do think that if my family were more willing to purchase healthy foods I would begin feeling better though. Not normally, no. I tend to get on a sleep cycle, be good for a while or not change at all, and then move to a completely different one. Even if I try not to, I stop being able to fall asleep at the time I want or not be able to stay away until the time I want. From Thanksgiving up until last week, I had been sleeping from about 4am to 4-6pm, and before that it was usually 11pm (sometimes later) to 5:30 or 6am. Since I recovered from whatever sickness I had, I've been sleeping from 6-8pm-2-4am. Usually if I sleep from 10pm-6am like my doctor suggested, I feel more tired, but I've had noticeably more energy since I've been sleeping from 6-8 to 2-4. I'm not sure why it's that way, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts. q: The only problem is I don't get to talk to many people because everyone is doing homework when I fall asleep, and everyone is asleep when I wake up, and that's also a problem when I need help with homework, so I'll probably change it soon anyway if it doesn't change on it's own. Bell Kalika have you been tested for anemia? for years i was lethargic, tired all the time and apathetic and knew i wasn't depressed. then my doctor told me i was anemic and put me on iron pills. omg! i did a 180 in just a few days, i had energy, i was happy, i was sleeping better i actually wanted to DO things again! i got my life back Very recently actually, and apparently I'm not, although my mom and a few of my friends thought I was. I'm happy that worked for you though. ^^ Maybe, if I can convince my mom, I can start taking a supplement or try different vitamins than the ones I tried last time. DarkYangDragon Yeah, that will do it. My doctor put me on some pills for that a few years ago and it helped a lot. So you should have your thyroid checked out if your still having problems with sleep, or ask your doctor about a sleep study (really expensive though) Since the blood test I got recently came back and my thyroid levels were fine, a sleep study may not be a bad idea. The problem with that though is that we're pretty broke. xD -- Thank you girls for replying. ^^
