Graduation Is quickly approaching and everyone is asking me the same question "what do you want to do after high school?" My problem is I can't really decide. My mom seems to be so stuck on me continuing school but I can't decide what I'd go for. I personally hate school unless I'm learning something I really like and can actually use. I am worried about going straight into work and being stuck working at gas stations and fast food until I'm 80. My mom works at a gas station as a manager and I couldn't stand having her job(especially the firing people part). Since I know that other people have been through this, I would like to here about what you decided to do with your life and how you came to your decision.

You mean, I was suppose to make a decision confused
I've been out of high school for 6-7yrs now, still don't really know what I want. I went to college cause, well, if you don't want to work in a gas station your whole life, then, you have a better chance with a college education. I took media arts cause that's what I was into, everyone who didn't know what they wanted did social, but, it seemed way too boring to bother with, a college education is what it is who cares if it's social science or media arts. I have college level english, french and humanities. Plus I got to try new things and get a feel for what I liked. Video editing definitely a favorite, but after graduating I realized how difficult it is to find a job in that domain, so rather than continue with university I decided to go BACK to college (actually to adult ed to take some advanced high school classes) and go for animal health. Which has been more down my alley. Like you I hate school and it was hard to handle the theory classes but the hands on classes were awesome. I have a stage in about 2 months, then I'll work in a clinic for a while till I know where to go from there. Rehab maybe, nutrition, dentistry. Who knows.
Sometimes you just have to get on board and see where it takes you. You could take time off to work and save up money. That's another direction people go, but when/if you decide to go back to school, it's a lot harder. Especially if you have a car, apartment, pets etc to pay for.

I've been tossing veterinarian positions around in my head for the last few years, but at the moment I'm stuck- behaviourist, veterinarian, or human psychologist?? Or Geneticist..
Point being, pick a general field and take some classes in that field until you find something you really like and, quite frankly, are really good at. Try to pick something that not a lot of people do, so it'll be easier to find a job when you graduate. Or, go for something in high demand- nurses, pilots, and lab assistants are always needed. I mean hell, in the doctors office my mom works at, they have new nurses and lab techs for me to meet all the time. it gets sucky though cause when I go straight to the back they're all 'woah hold up bro you gotta wait and sign and stuff' and I'm like "b***h back off my mom works here" and they're all "well prove it" and im like "No cause I'm here every wednesday at around 3:20, so you can get used to me 3<"
Good luck trying to find a point in the above rambling.

You can enter college as a general education or liberal arts major and take core classes until you figure out what really interests you. Classes like English I, College Algebra, Intro to Psychology, Foreign Language, etc are usually pretty safe because no matter what major you end up picking, they will count towards graduating. I've seen a lot of student do this. personally I knew what I wanted to do when I entered college, but my first degree was still a Liberal Arts Associate's Degree from a 2 year community college. I was able to transfer all the credits over to a 4 year University and enter their Sociology program as a Junior year student. After I earn my Bachelor's degree in Sociology, I will pursue a Master's in Social Work, become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and do mental heath counseling.

I'm 29 and I just started in the Pharmacy field not that long ago... You don't always have to pick right away. I knew science interested me, so I got my associates in that, from there I decided I like biology, but the only thing to really do with that is teach, or lab work so I skipped that, Pharmacy gives me the feel of Bio with Pharmacology, but the human interaction and daily differences in work tasks that gives me something to keep me interested.
