What is a Learned Ability?

- A learned ability is something that a character ICly learns by taking a classroom-based requirement, basically a skill a student has learned from studying at Amityville. Different learned abilities have different requirements and your character can only be ICly granted the permission to use the learned ability after they have fulfilled the listed requirements for that specific ability. Just like a Fear ability, a learned ability will always be with your character once the requirements have been completed! It does mean though, sometimes ability effects are adjusted and can be tweaked if the need arises...

[ SPECIAL LEARNED ABILITIES ] Special learned abilities can sometimes be unlocked through a field classroom or even in mentorship rps! These come DIRECTLY from gms, but you still need to post them here and where you learned them @ RP to use them for later.

Learned Abilities in Battle:

- Some learned abilities can be used in battle! The specific listed ability will be marked yes or no as to whether or not it can be used in battle and exactly WHAT its effect is.
- Some Learned Abilities are not useable/applicable to battle situations, so please see below which ones can be used. Once again, if useable in battle, they can only be used once per battle (THE ENTIRE BATTLE, not one round).
- You can use learned abilities, for example, such as Fear Healing, between full battles too, but not between rounds.
- When using a learned ability in battle, please list in OOC brackets underneath your HP tally/ damage tally the name of learned ability you are using and the effect it does. Think of this similar to using a Fear ability.
- Like Fear abilities, you cannot attack twice in one turn. You can EITHER use your learned ability, a melee attack, OR your Fear ability on that turn. Learned abilities do not stack in battle, they take up one of your character's turns.
- Certain bosses are particularly weak to specific Learned Abilities: GM notification will be posted in the rules if this situation applies!
- exclaim YOU CAN ONLY USE UP TO TWO LEARNED ABILITIES IN A SINGLE BATTLE EVER exclaim though it is up to you which ones.

Learned Abilities in regular RPS:

- Learned abilities can also be used icly in rp situations and not just necessarily in battle! It is up to you how you would want to use them!
- Even learned abilities that are normally only useable in battle can still be applied to non-battle rp situations. Please do note somewhere in the rp which learned ability your character is using though, and its potential effect.
- Learned abilities can only be used ONCE per rp.

Learned Abilities in Metaplot Events:

- Sometimes learned abilities will have special functions in orps/metaplots. For example, does your character have the ability to use basic shadow crafting? Then they might be able to use that ability to their advantage on a metaplot boss!
- When a learned ability is activated in a metaplot /ORP, there will be notice given regarding its special effect in the event rules. Please don't use non-battle learned abilities otherwise.
- Sometimes a learned ability normally not useable in battle will be activated during a metaplot, so please check in the basic metaplot rules to see which learned abilities have been activated and what they possibly might do
- OTHERWISE battle-enabled learned abilities can obviously, still be used in metaplot battles unless stated otherwise

Learned abilites and skill levels:

- Learned abilities have different skill levels! These are classified to Beginner Abilities, Intermediate Abilities, and Advanced Abilities. Check the categories below to see which abilities fall into what category.
- Beginner abilities: can be learned by anyone! They have no additional requirements other than what is listed to learn that ability (ie: take __ of this class).
- Intermediate abilities: can only be learned by Y2 students and higher. They have beginner ability pre-requisites, which are also listed. That means you must have mastered the pre-requisite ability before attempting to master that particular Intermediate Ability.
- Advanced abilities: can only be learned by Y3 students and higher. They have Intermediate pre-requisites, usually 2-3 of them each. You must have each of the required pre-requisites before attempting to take on that particular Advanced ability.
- Please note: ALL INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED ABILITIES have pre-requisites. That means you CANNOT learn the higher level ability without learning its Beginner level equivalent first. Pre-requisite abilities will be listed as needed.
- To try for a higher skill level, you'll have to fulfill the requirements (AGAIN) for the next tier up, that means if for example, "Basic Attack A" requires passing the A class exercise 5 times, and "Intermediate Attack A" requires passing the A class exercise 10 times, you'll have to take it 5 times for for basic attack A and then 10 times again for basic attack B.
- You cannot try for a higher level learned ability without clearing the pre-requisites.

When can my student officially use this learned ability?

- If your student has fulfilled ALL THE pre-requisites and requirements needed for that learned ability, simply post below using the Learned Ability Dropoff Form. After you have posted with proof of the rps/ quota needed, then your student is officially able to use that ability!

LEARNED ABILITY BREAKDOWN

Learned Ability Name: This is the name of the learned ability. There is no need to shout it really loud into the air every time your character uses it, but indication in bold OOCLY that they are using this learned ability in battle is required, right below their HP tally /etc etc.
Difficulty level: Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced ability. Only Y1's can learn a beginner ability, Y2's an intermediate and Y3's an Advanced ability.
Prerequisites: PRE-REQUISITE ABILITIES THAT NEED TO BE MASTERED FIRST before this ability can be attempted, if applicable.
Battle effect: Whether or not this ability can be used in battle. If there is a battle effect, please use the mechanics listed here to use this ability in battle. Once again you can only use this ability, like a Fear ability, once per battle, and it takes up one turn. Be sure to list the ability like your Fear ability in the round you are using it.
Non-battle effects: Learned abilities also have rp effects, these effects are listed here! Think of them as learned natural abilities!
Requirement to learn this ability: This is the cream of the learning ability experience. Requirements are what is needed to actually master that ability, outside of pre-requisites (if applicable). For example, some learned abilities will require passing a certain open class _ amount of times. Others will require a private tutorial with a professor AND passing an open class. Almost all learned abilities require passing certain open classes.

LIST OF BEGINNER LEARNED ABILITIES

Beginner Trashbot Summon:
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: A character can summon their pocket-sized Trashbot to aid them in battle, the Trahsbot acting like a small clockwork explosive. Roll a 4-sided dice. This is the damage you do the opponent. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character can icly create a pocket-sized Trashbot to help them pick up things/ clean their room/ do very minor Trashbot-like things. They can only create one at a time.
Requirements: Get to wave five of a single open class of Trashology 101. Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Speed Boost
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, a player may choose to roll a 4-sided dice. Their accuracy is raised +1 for the next rolled amount of turns. For example, if I state this used effect and roll a 4, for the next 4 turns, my damage calculated is now -5 instead of -6. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character can obtain a small speed boost/ speed surge to seemingly "teleport" a foot, but it can only be used once without them getting super tired.
Requirements: Win a single round of the open class of the course Thunder Road.Click here to go to this class!

Beginner First Aid
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, a player may choose to roll a 4-sided dice. This is the amount that the player heals themselves or another target for. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character can heal small wounds or cuts of other players or themselves, and know how to do basic stitching.
Requirements: Score three rounds of a total score of 12 or higher in the open class First Aid 101. Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Evasion
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, a player may choose to roll a 20-sided dice. If they roll a 1 or 20, they avoid all damage done to them next turn, UNLESS IT IS A GM BOSS. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character can sense easier an oncoming attack/hit and avoid it.
Requirements: ????

Beginner Lucky Chance
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, a player may choose to roll a 6-sided dice. If odd, they do the damage to themselves, if even, they do the damage to their opponent. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character acquires the ability to scavenge around for more useful items around Amityville to sell for $$$
Requirements: Pass round 5 of a single open class of The Cave of Wonders. Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Stealth
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, you may choose to roll a 6-sided dice. If the result is a 6, their damage taken this round is halved. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character acquires the ability to walk around sneakily
Requirements: Collect 15 or more trinkets from the Horsemen stealth trial. Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Battle Aura
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: This is an ADD on effect! You cannot use it with your Fear. Once per battle, by using this effect (please state so), instead of rolling your usual 2d6/8/10, you will roll THREE dice.
- The first two dice behave as normal, simply add up the damage and subtract 6.
- THE LAST DICE, if even, is the additional damage you do DIVIDED BY TWO. If your last dice is odd, you do all of the damage of the THREE DICE ROLLS (the third roll amount divided by two) to yourself
Non-battle Effect: A character acquires the ability to create a menacing aura, perhaps enough to lightly startle others.
Requirements: Finish/ defeat the final boss in BEEN FIGHTING BEARS ON THE MOUNTAIN. Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Desperate Chance
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, you may choose to roll 2 12-sided dice and subtract six from the result. However, due to the sudden change in your outfit from invoking this ability, you skip your next 3 turns (the outfit remains all throughout the battle)
Non-battle Effect: A character acquires the ability to randomly sparkle. Ooh-ahh...
Requirements: Finish/ defeat the final boss in "Make a legal document and..." Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Summoned Object
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, you may choose to use your Crafts skill to summon a small craft-and-paper created guardian. Roll a six-sided dice. If odd, the guardian will defend you for two damage for the next three turns. If even, it does nothing. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: You can create and summon a small craft-and-paper created guardian from any piece of paper/napkin/ etc. It doesn't do much but float around, and it's a little less entertaining than a minipet...
Requirements: Pass the class Arts and Crafts 101. Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Dodge:
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: Sign up to be mentored by Noland O'Facey
Battle Effect: Once per battle, roll three of your normal attack dice instead of two. (If you're Y3, that means roll 3d10). The first two dice are your normal attack roll. If the third dice is even, your opponent's modifier is raised to -8 on their next turn. (If fighting a Horseman, the modifier goes from -8 to -9. If fighting a Protector, this effect is invalid.) If the third dice is odd, nothing happens.
Non-battle Effect: Your character is now one step closer to zen-like sensory function. And they're, you know. Good at dodging.
Requirements: Successfully complete first mentor activity with Noland O'Facey.

Beginner Clear Eyes:
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: Once per battle, if you roll a miss on a normal melee roll, you may reroll your dice roll.
Non-battle Effect: If a character is hidden or invisible, roll a 6-sided dice. If odd, you can see them! They must be the same year as you or lower.
Requirements: Successfully complete The Art of Seeing, and Being Seen (Socio-Cultural Anthropology). Click here to go to this class!

Beginner Disguise:
Difficulty level: Beginner
Pre-requisites: N/A
Battle Effect: N/A
Non-battle Effect: Your character can temporarily alter their appearance to look like anyone they have traded student pins with (as long as they are wearing the pin). This only lasts 5 minutes for Y1, 10 for Y2, and 30 for Y3. This is an illusion and is broken if they are attacked. They still sound like themselves though okay, it isn't that advanced. The illusion appearance is only of their student form and not their natural form.
Requirements: Successfully complete Disguise for Dummies (aka the TL;DR class). Click here to go to this class!

LIST OF INTERMEDIATE LEARNED ABILITIES

Intermediate Stealth
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Pre-requisites: Beginner Stealth
Battle Effect: Once per battle, you may choose to roll a 6-sided dice. If the result is a even, their damage taken this round is halved. This does not take up a battle turn and can be stacked on to one normal battle round.
Non-battle Effect: A character can go into sneak mode! While in sneak mode, they are not noticed by others for 30 seconds (only those of their year and lower). Make sure to put in OOC the effects of sneak mode so other rpers know!
Requirements: Successfully complete Horseman Trial - Intermediate Stealth (Must have passed beginner). Click here to go to this class!

Intermediate Battle Aura
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Pre-requisites: Beginner Battle Aura
Battle Effect: This is an ADD on effect! You cannot use it with your Fear. Once per battle, by using this effect (please state so), instead of rolling your usual 2d6/8/10, you will roll THREE dice. Calculate accordingly with a -6 damage modifier. So if I use this ability and roll 5, 5, 6, I do 16 - 6 = 10 damage.
- However if the last dice is odd, you do this damage to yourself! That means from the example above I would do 10 damage to the opponent and 10 damage to myself!
Non-battle Effect: A character acquires the ability to create a menacing aura, perhaps enough to lightly startle others.
Requirements: Successfully complete (phase 3) of BEEN FIGHTING HONEY BADGERS ON THE DESERT MOUNTAIN. Click here to go to this class!

Intermediate First Aid
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Pre-requisites: Beginner First Aid
Battle Effect: Once per battle, a player may choose to roll a 8-sided dice. This is the amount that the player heals themselves or another target for. You forfeit your normal battle attack turn if you want to use this attack.
Non-battle Effect: A character can heal medium to small wounds or cuts of other players or themselves, and know how to do basic stitching.
Requirements: Successfully complete Intermediate First Aid. Click here to go to this class!

Intermediate Trashbot Summon:
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Pre-requisites: Beginner Trashbot Summon
Battle Effect: A character can summon their minipet-sized Trashbot to aid them in battle, the Trahsbot acting like a small clockwork explosive. Roll a 4-sided dice. This is the damage you do the opponent. You can summon one on top of your normal turn without penalty. This can only be used once per battle.
Non-battle Effect: A character can icly create a minipet-sized Trashbot to help them pick up things/ clean their room/ do very minor Trashbot-like things. They can only create one at a time. It can also do minor things like speak very rudimentary words and also sometimes do your homework.
Requirements: Successfully complete Trashbot Upgrading - Intermediate. Click here to go to this class!

Intermediate Dodge:
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Pre-requisites: Beginner Dodge
Battle Effect: Once per battle, roll four of your normal attack dice instead of two. (If you're Y3, that means roll 4d10). The first two dice are your normal attack roll. If either of the other two dice is even, your opponent's modifier is raised to -8 on their next turn. (If fighting a Horseman, the modifier goes from -8 to -9. If fighting a Protector, this effect is invalid.) If both the third and fourth dice are odd, nothing happens.
Non-battle Effect: Emotional Stealthing - anger causes a stormcloud to appear that shades your presence from the attacking party, giving you a better chance to dodge the attack.
Requirements: Successfully complete second mentor activity with Noland O'Facey.
