What else can I say? I came out to my parents and my sister, I told them that... I liked girls. I'm three and a half years younger than my sister, and throughout all the time I've known her and my family, I expected to get what I thought they would say to me. I didn't.
Basically, I've been dating my wonderful girlfriend for three months, and I figured...Its time I get rid of this secret, because I believe I can make something work with her. My family thought we were best friends, and technically, we were, we have been ever since I could remember.
When I told my family, though, we were all at the dinner table. Yeah, not my brightest idea, because...I didn't know my whole family was homophobic. I mean, as I told them that I've dated her for three months, my sister literally got up from the table, and left, telling me, "I can't believe you're a lesbian. I thought I knew you."
So yeah, but my parents aren't exactly happy I'm happy. I just don't know how to get my sister, or either of my parents to talk to me. I mean, their opinion mattered most to me.

Sorry to hear that they didn't respond well. But don't give up hope. Give them a little time to digest things and perhaps have some calm discussions with them, remind them that you are still who you are and this is what is making you happy.
Not to be mean but I hate when people say 'if you're happy that's all that should matter' because being accepted by your family is something that affects your happiness.
Maybe once they've dealt with the shock, they'll be more accepting. I hope they will.

Maybe once they've dealt with the shock, they'll be more accepting. I hope they will. Its okay, I always knew that there was that option that they would go in that direction. Thank you, though, I just hope that you're right. It'd be silly to lose my family, if they never want to see their daughter after I leave the town. Blargh.

Welcome to the world of gays. Have a drink cheese_whine and be happy. No matter what bs comes your way. Cuz here in our happy rainbow town, we've got your back. Unless you've dated some of the citizens, then those ones may have some resentment for being dumped by you. But everyone else will adore you! So hang in there and hopefully your family gets over themselves and supports you. Cuz we do

I'm sorry to head that your family reacted that way. I sincerely hope that they come to realize that you're still the same member daughter/sister that you've always been, and that nothing about your sexual orientation has changed this fact. Keep your chin up!

You know what. They'll probably come around and realize you are you, and being you isnt based on liking girls or boys.
In the end, you're your sisters little sister and your parents "baby daughter" for lack of a better term. Sexuality doesnt change family, and they should see that.
Hope it turns out well. heart
