I freakin' hate this book.
I read all of the first one, and I'm about a third of the way through "Catching Fire". Honestly, the fans get so butthurt and offended when you say anything against Hunger Games.
The writing is immature and childish in style.
Everything is ripped off Battle Royale.
It's way too censored, making it unrealistic.
Rue wasn't that big of a deal, okay?!
Gale/Katniss/Peeta is the new Jacob/Bella/Edward.
Katniss is the worst female role model ever.
Katniss is a hypocrite. You think the other districts give their kids such weird names? Look who's talking. You're named after a damn root.
It isn't all about Katniss and Peeta. Let's hear about the other contestants.
The emotions are too shallow.
MELONS AREN'T PURPLE.
Enough with the food porn already.
IT'S NOT THE BEST BOOK EVER, GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE.
That's about all I can say. A few of the reasons I hate HG.

Never watched or read them. Everyone says that they're the best books ever and that they are the best books of all times. I guess I'll have to try them first before judging. xp

I thought i was alone in the universe.
I didn't like it either, it was so simple I had read more intense books in third grade. I like the ideas in it, but the execution was lacking.

Its okay I strolled by the 1st half of the first book It didnt entertain me but my friend recommended it to me so I finished it. The 2nd half did catch my attention tho the fighting for survival wasnt intense as I thought it be. I thought the movie would have been better in the fighting but it wasnt. It lean more on romance and that kid Peeta was okay in the book but in the movie he kept reminding me of terabithia. There are other movies similer like this, but with actual blood and traps. All I can say is it could have been way way better.

I quite liked the first book, but then it just got worse and worse.

The movie wasn't all that great either.

OK one thing you need to realize about the hunger games is it was written for the YOUNG adult section, the writing including things censorship and a lower writing level because its meant for the ages 10-14, heck even as young as 8 could read it.

If taken at face value it is a good story. The books have simple symbolism made fairly obvious, I think its a great book for children graduating to chapter books.
I agree its NOT the best story ever, but it is a decent one if one understands it is a borderline children's book, children's books can be good too.

Unfortunately books like hunger games, harry potter and craplight (twilight) are so big is because they are Simple, most of society wont or cant read so when something easy comes along they all ban together and love it.

As for Katniss being the worst role model ever i feel that is very untrue, at least she saved her sister from the games. Bella from twilight wins that for me as she ENCOURAGES abusive relationships.

I will give ALL books a chance I liked hunger games, no its not in my top 10 or even my top 20, but for me it was still enjoyable.

I feel you emotion_hug
when I first heard of the hunger games I went on a rampage telling everyone about battle royale and all my friends were saying things like "No! It's Bbattle royale that ripped of the hunger games!" emotion_facepalm I myself don't really understand why it's so popular, but then again, that's how society is these days.

Yeah, that is true it's written for younger kids, but a lot of teens and adults are CRAZY about it! I dunno.
As for me I am completely adamant that Harry Potter is not a children's book. Maybe the first few, but as the series gets progressively darker (and the books get progressively longer) it doesn't seem like a children's book. A young adult book (as in like 11-18 ) maybe, but not a childrens book.
Since I have first started this thread, I have read all three books in the trilogy, and still personally think it's highly overrated and badly written.

I've never read them. I did watch the first film out of curiosity, 'cause of the hype. So glad im not the only one who realised it was a massive battle royale rip off but with out the stabbings or exploding necks rofl

Yeah, i didnt hate the film, it was fine for a lazy day. But i'm still confused over the hype. The whole idea seems kinda played out for people to be suddenly really into it confused We'd never even heard of it in this country till earlier this year TBH

I don't think Katniss is supposed to be a rolemodel. First she's just Katniss, socially awkward but wins the game. Then she's traumatized, PTST probably and gets thrown in the ring again, being socially awkward and traumatized. In the third game she's just crazy. So, no, I don't think she's even supposed to be a rolemodel

I did like the books. I liked the fact everything wasn't overdetailed.

I didn't like the Hunger Games either, but I only read the first book (I should read the other books before judging but the first one really bored me). When I first heard of it, I instantly thought of Battle Royale. It really is like a rip-off of Battle Royale. neutral I felt like the fight scenes were a bit boring. sweatdrop

I can respect other people's opinions, but my heart just broke. I do agree with some of the things you said, but I really enjoyed the Hunger Games. (And think about it, if you watched a little girl die you would probably be pretty upset.)

I would just like to say that I agree with everything you just said.
And the movie was atrocious.
