One of my favorite LGBT shows, even though it doesn't deal with the topic every episode, is Cold Case. It's canceled now, but it was directed by the same guy that did CSI. It's a show where a group of cops investigate cold cases dating back from the 1920's till the time it was aired (2003-2007? I believe?). They do a really nice job at keeping a neutral yet slightly positive view of any cases they have that involve homosexuality, however, one episode we watched called "Boy Crazy" (shame I cant remember what season it was from) deals with a supposedly transgendered girl in the 1960's. I say supposedly because they refused to abide to the standards of their sex but never asked to be referred to by the male pronouns (their preference for pronouns was never revealed, so to be on the safe side I'll use the neutral pronoun), however they did ask to go by the male version of their name, Sam, rather than Samantha. It was extremely, extremely, heart wrenching and unfair on their side and it involved a lot of romance and I highly recommend it, but watch it at your own risk, it's EXTREMELY triggering.
