Kawaii was born into a family of swordsmen, common folk. Emphasis on the word men. The girl adopted her odd name when she was a child, accidentally writing Kawaii instead of Kawa one day. The name stuck thanks to her appearance. Her three older brothers and father all called the sword their weapon of choice and she was forced to take one up as well. Small in stature, however, she struggled with the art more than they did and secretly gravitated towards the girlish dolls that they did not approve of. Despite her clumsiness and interest in other things the girl still chose to incorporate a sword into her career as a kunoichi. Though how she plans to do so is a mystery even to her.

Kawaii's time in the academy was rough. She never excelled as much as her family would have liked, and always found a spot near the bottom of her class' overall performance charts. The tiny girl had more than one run in with kids who picked on her, which left her without even the most remotely soft spot in her usually joyous heart for those who picked on others or held themselves in a considerably higher regard.
