The Library is located in the back of the Castle near the cliffs. Here you can find books for pleasure reading as well as research. Some areas of the Library are warded by Sebastet herself and are unaccessable to others, this is for protection: both physical and mental...

Grann moved a had through his blond hair as he sat by the window looking out over the cliffs. He like it here it was quiet and he could think and do his art work in peace. He was happy that the Lady of the Castle said he could stay here. He tend to stay to him self most of the time but now and then he would get out to go to town for more art supplies. Looking back down at his art book he had started a picture of part of the library. It still needed more detail but it was looking good. He wanted to get a picture of every room in the castle but some he know he could not. Sighing he looked back out side his black eyes scanning the night.

Cain moved through the library silently, not really paying much attention to his surroundings other than the books he was shelving. His face had a look of concentration as he checked the titles and authors and tried to get them in the right places, his oddly colored eyes missing nothing about them or the shelves but oblivious to everything else.

He loved the peace and quiet of the library, the subtle scents of the books and scrolls he was in charge of. In here, he didn't have to pay attention to talking to people, didn't have to pay attention to what others thought of his lean body and reclusive frame of mind. In here, he was important.

In here, he was needed. Not by people. By the books and scrolls he cared for. He loved sorting through the shipments of books and scrolls that Sebastet constantly had coming in, the challenge of getting them on the shelves and into the special area for the scrolls, inventoring them all and ensuring their care.

He placed the last book on the shelf and gave a soft sigh as he moved back to the seating area in the front of the library where he had stacks of books to shelve waiting for him still, his mind on them and not on his feet. So it probably shouldn't have been surprising when he tripped over a stool that had been left out of place, going down with a pained thud when he scraped his chin on the tiled floor.

He sat up and wiped his bloody chin with a grimace and frowned over the entire situation, knowing he was going to have to go clean up and change before he could return to finish shelving the books. He didn't want the distraction but knew he couldn't handle the books while bleeding all over the place.

He got to his feet with a disgusted sound and headed for the doorway with an annoyed look on his face, one hand at his chin to keep the blood from dripping everywhere.

Rose padded after him while he explained the basics to her, occasionally nodding as mentioned places to stay away from, and where she could stay. He was definitively a vampire, she had encountered a few before, but only ever at a distance. He was doing most of the talking, so the first non-confrontational thing that popped into her head, she spoke. "Er, do you like books? " Almost the moment the words were out of her mouth she felt like face palming. Of course he liked books to some extent, he was going to the library! No matter how many years seemed to pass, it was almost as if she was the same girl in the corset inducing awkward silences.

Silenced Nocturne

As they entered the library, Cain paused at her question with a frown on his face that said just how stupid her question was, "Of course I like books. I'm the librarian here. Just how addled is your brain, child?" he countered then shook his head at her and moved for the books stacked around the seating area, all of them ready to be shelved.

He picked up a few of them and checked the titles, "Do I like books... Indeed... That's her first real question? How ridiculous..." he muttered as he moved to the first shelf and slid a book into its new home then moved further down, apparently dismissing her from his mind for the most part.

Well, until he came back for more books. Then he blinked at her a bit, "You're still here?" he asked her then shook his head at the obvious question, "Stupid of me... Of course you're still here if you're standing there... Well what do you want?" he clarified after muttering to himself a bit more.

Cain was a bit of a puzzle even to most of the vampires on a good night. The rest of the time, they generally forgot he was even here. He was a bookworm in the extreme and a klutz if he wasn't paying attention. He was never deliberately rude, just rude by accident.

As she predicted he clearly thought her question was ridiculous. Oh well. She didn't expect him to wander off shelving books though, and he seemed so surprised when he found her exactly where he left her. Truthfully, under normal circumstances she would have wondered off by now to explore the stacks. At his question she blurted out "Ashmole number 57!" Realizing this response was going to likely inadequate, she elaborated "it's THE book on blood magic, an alchemical treatise on the magical properties of many kinds of blood in various states of oxidation, that I've been trying to find for awhile now." That may have been to much information. But this was a vampire castle, and the book was on blood, it had seemed logical to come here.

Okay, that response made him blink at her again for a moment. then it hit her what she was saying and he had to shake his head at her, "Ah... You're one of those humans then... Alright, follow me," he said simply with a wry turn of his lips and moved through the shelves, clearly expecting her to follow him.

He stopped between two shelves and gestured to the one on the right, "There's everything we've got on blood magic. The book you're looking for is there on the third shelf. You can read it but don't take it out of the library," he told her then left her alone with a shelf that was easily the size of a wall completely filled with every book known to be about blood magic in every form.

Cain returned to shelving books, his being a vampire aiding him with the speed necessary to get the task done in a short time. then he moved through the shelves to the back of the massive room and started sorting through the scrolls that had come in with the last shipment, muttering under his breath about blood mages, stupid humans, something about the medical knowledge of the ancient Egyptians, and trying to remember where he'd left his shoes, all in no particular order.

Rose's eyes began to water at the sight of all of the books, these were tears of joy. All of those hours working to get here were worth every drop of blood filled. Not always her own. Gingerly holding Ashmole 57 as if it would be yanked from her grasp or disintegrate if she breathed in it too hard, she opened the book. It was blank. She turned to next page, that was blank to. She quickly flipped through all of the pages, completely blank. An idea occurred to her, and she smelled the pages. Copper and ash. Some one put a binding spell on it. a** hole. If she remembered correctly, most binding spell could be undone by overloading it with whatever bound it. In this case, some blood on the back cover should work.

Rose unsheathed her knife, and pressed it against the tip of her thumb. She winced as she felt the book greedily absorb the blood, not a single drop pooled on the cover. She held her thumb there for a few minutes, the pain was starting to fade now. Actually, she though groggily, everything was starting to fade. Her fogged brain took a moment to process this then finally came to a conclusion. Crap was the only word on her mind as the floor rushed up too meet her.
With a clatter unheard to Rose, her knife dropped next to her, and the soft thump of her body soon followed.

Silenced Nocturne

Cain frowned when he heard the noises and tried to figure out what could possibly be making such a racket. Then he remembered the girl and stood, heading to where he'd left her. When he got there, he took in the scene easily and shook his head over it, "Fool of a female..." he muttered softly then picked up the book first to check on it, giving a small nod since it hadn't suffered any harm from the fall.

Good. His binding on it was still in place. She should have said something about it before trying to bleed herself out...

He shook his head again and moved to her, placing the book on top of her before picking her up as if she weighed less than the book had. He carried her over to the sitting area and put her on the couch then wondered what he was supposed to do with her now.

After a few moment's thought, he called for a servant and had them retrieve some orange juice for her. If she was practicing blood magic, he might as well treat her like a blood donor that had given up too much. Orange juice was supposed to help with that, after all. While he waited for the juice, then after it appeared on the coffee table, he paced on the carpet in front of the couch, the fire in the fire place burning merrily and keeping the place warm on the other side of him, while he muttered about inconvenient foolish females, his missing shoes, and the fall of Rome, all in no particular order, of course.

He really needed the girl to wake up so that he could unbind the book for her then get back to work. Really, this was just getting to be too much...

After a few moments had passed, or was it hours? Rose never could tell how long she had been unconscious. Rose became aware that she was lying somewhere, she shifted her right shoulder slightly, it didn't feel like the floor. Rose blinked her eyes open. Hmmmm... Nice ceiling frescos she thought. Her right hand was throbbing slightly, she must have cut herself deeper than she thought. Head still a bit fuzzy she tried to sit up. She exhaled as she felt the blood rush away from her head, I should have waited to recover from that teleportation spell. She thought. Stupid stupid stupid, she had been to eager, and she was lucky she had just passed out. People have definitively died before in an attempt to break bindings.

Blinking, she tried to decipher where she was exactly. Well she was still in the library, looked like she was on a couch... And the barefoot librarian was there too, it looked like he was pacing. Judging by the look on his face, out of annoyance. "You know I probably would have been fine if you let me sleep it off on the floor right?" Spying the glass of orange juice near her on the coffee table, she picked it up and took a sip. "It's not the first time I've passed out in a Library." After pausing a moment she continued slightly embarrassed"Thanks for carrying me here, and for the juice though."

Silenced Nocturne

Cain frowned at her in annoyance when she finally woke up, "Well it's about time you woke up. You should have found out about the bindings on the book before trying to undo them in the first place," he told her simply as he collected the book in his hands again and resumed his pacing.

"And I couldn't very well leave you on the floor like that. What if I'd tripped over you? I don't need another bloody chin tonight, thank you very much," he continued then shrugged over the juice, "I thought that what worked for over-indulgent blood donors had to work with idiot blood mages doing stupid things," he added then paused in front of her with his eyes on her face.

He only now registered that she was pretty. If he'd been attracted to women he might have considered... Well, he wasn't so it didn't really matter.

"Now pay attention to me, girl. There are a great many books in here under bindings. The next time you encounter one don't try to break it on your own. Come find me with the book and ask me nicely and I'll remove the binding for a short while to allow you to read it. Do you understand me? No more of that nonsense of yours. This particular book was bound against what you just tried to do because it likes blood a bit too much," he told her. Alright, he scolded her like a wayward child. But he really did care about his books.

He closed his eyes and whispered something softly with his hands on either side of the book, causing a brief glow around it that faded after only a moment. Then he opened his eyes and the book to show her that the words had been revealed quite clearly, "Now kindly stop interrupting my work with foolish tendencies, would you?" he finished with that and dropped the book into her lap and walked to the back of the library once more, "Idiots messing around with bindings, talking statuary... What next, a talking book?" he muttered to himself as he walked.

Well, tried to walk. On his way he managed to implant his foot against a marble column and hissed at the pain as he grabbed at the offended body part briefly, then continued in an even more annoyed attitude, limping this time.

Rose took his scolding without a word, hanging her head slightly. She had been incredibly foolish, and she could've seriously injured herself. As he hobbled off back into the stacks, she realized that somewhere under the rude exterior, he was nice. Somewhere. He showed a bit more kindness than she would've expected with the glass of orange juice, this made her wonder if that his rudeness was just a lack of people skills. He certainly seemed at least slightly eccentric, a tad scatter-brained too. Well he certainly knew his stuff when it came to bindings, she stroked an open page of Ashmole 57. Rose could still feel the binding, unactivated, but still there. He could have just picked her up and plopped her in the garden, but instead he had put her on this couch and undid the binding for her...

He definitely deserved at least a thank-you, but somehow she felt that he wouldn't take kindly to her popping up and interrupting his work for a quick chat right now. Remembering his mutterings as he had stalked off a minute ago, she had the distinct impression that he had left his shoes someplace, and was sorely missing them. Also that he must have encountered a talking statue recently. Hrm... Well she couldn't deal with a talking statue, she was by no means an exorcist, she could go and try to find his shoes. Resolute, she set off to the back part of the library.

About half an hour later, and slightly sore from everything that happened that day plus a great deal of stooping and reaching, she had discovered a pair of shoes under a shelf full of what looked like russian romance novels. Rose wondered why in the world he would of let them here (assuming they were indeed his) and if they weren't his, who else would have left a pair of shoes here? Rose padded
down the aisles trying to find him, she hadn't run into him since she had begun her search. Rose hoped he wouldn't be too mad if she interrupted him to give him his shoes.
"Hey, Cain, where did you diapear too?" She called out.

Silenced Nocturne

"Back here!" he called out from the back of the library where he was sorting very old scrolls into slots against the wall for them. He placed one scroll and turned to her with a curious expression, "What did you need?" he asked her, fairly surprised that she was still here.

Then again, how long had he been in here? Well, perhaps it hadn't been that long. He always lost track of time in here and kept forgetting things that probably should have been important. Things like changing clothes, sleeping, feeding...

Thankfully there were still one or two others around the place that kept an eye on him and made sure that he was taken care of. He knew that there was at least one person who went through his room once a month and made sure that all his clothes were cleaned and put away.

Of course, that did annoy him when he discovered it because he had to search for his clothes...

He blinked at her for a moment then saw what she was carrying besides the book and frowned in amazement, "Where did you find those? I haven't seen those shoes in ages..." he said without thinking, clearly claiming them as his as well as the fact that he'd lost them some time ago. He'd had a particular fondness of those slippers since they were so comfortable and had despaired of ever finding them again. Hence the pair he'd left in his room under a pile of pants...

Rose smiled slightly at his obvious surprise. He was a bit scatter brained wasn't he? How do you forget your shoes in the Library in the first place anyhow? Her best guess was that when he was distracted by something, little details get lost in the shuffle. Still smiling she extended the shoes towards him, a clear offer. "It was under a section of the Russian literature. You didn't seem very happy about being barefooted, so I found them."

Silenced Nocturne

Cain took the shoes with a smile on his face and put them on, "Thank you very much, dear..." he gave a pleased sigh and smiled again as his feet slid into something comfortable, warm, and well able to protect his toes from his little mishaps. They were also the first smiles he'd given all night and showed just how handsome he truly was, instantly turning him into someone who could easily break hearts if he put the effort into it.

After a moment, he sighed in contentment and concentrated on where she'd said she'd found them, "Russian you say? Probably those blasted romance novels then... I seem to remember that I was arranging those by author when there was a small explosion in the garden. No idea what it was all about but that druid fellow seemed well able to take care of it so I left him to it," he said with a shrug of one shoulder, dismissing the entire event as nothing noteworthy to himself.

His oddly colored eyes focused on her for a moment in silence then he gave another soft sigh, "Well, to thank you for the kindness I'll show you something," he told her finally and turned back to the scrolls that lined the wall, selected one and took it to a long well-lit table and unrolled it. He had to undo another binding then waved her over, "Take a look. It's one of the original treatises on blood magic and its origins. It contains some of the original spells used by the first of the blood mages. None of the spells are evil, of course. None of them would have even considered doing anything evil at the time. But perhaps there is something in here that can help you," he told her softly, knowing full well that no one had seen the scroll in thousands of years.
