I hate tampon math >_< I have only used them once or twice before, and I can never estimate how long theyll last and what absorbency would be best very well. Whenever I use them I always end up going to the bathroom every like 2-3 hours to check, people probably think I have some kind of bladder problem or something. D:
Some Questions: - What is the maximum amt of time that you can keep one in without risking TSS? - Did your first few kind of hurt when you took them out? (Will I just get used to it? :/ ) - Should regular absorbency pads generally last about the same amt of time as regular absorbency tampons? - Got a favorite brand, or know of a really crappy brand to avoid?
Any other strategies or basic tips to share would be appreciated :3 If anyone else has questions about tampons/pads you can post here.

I have long since given up on tampons. They were just too much hassle for me and got messy whenever my period suddenly decided to change flows. Plus I never "got used to" the pain and discomfort of both inserting and extracting. I wish you the best of luck.
With all the recent advancements in pads, you can now get super thin, very long, super absorbent pads that barely feel like you are wearing anything at all.

Tampons = my best friend
1. All depends on your flow. Maximum time to leave them in is 8 hours. 2. You might not be putting them in right, or you have too big a size. Go with regulars. You shouldn't be able to feel them. 3. I hate pads with a passion, blood gets everywhere and I smell like fish! Tampons don't last as long as pads but they help deter mess and stench 4. I used to use Playtex sport but I got tss, I started using U by kotex. The colorful ones. In size regular. 18 in one box usually lasts my 3-4 day period. Also if you have leak issues just put in a panty liner to save your panties from stains and stink.
Hope this helps heart

I try to change mine about every 4-6 hours. 8 hours is the maximum, like Candied Cupcake said. My favorite ones are Playtex Gentle Glide. There aren't any that I try to avoid, at the moment.
I couldn't get them in for the longest time, but it never hurt. Funny enough, the first tampon that I could ever insert correctly was the one without the applicator that you put in with your finger (o.b. brand)! I have no idea why, but that's what worked best for me in my early days. They're great at home or in a bathroom where the sink is right next to the toilet. It sucks having to use them in public restrooms!

This actually helped alot! Its not the size or anything I dont think, I cant feel it when its in, and its fairly simple to insert, just when I take them out it feels weird & hurts a little sometimes... :/

Personally, I don't use tampons, but I do know a thing or two about them. There shouldn't be any pain whilst inserting of exerting, and if you feel it once it has been inserted, it has been inserted wrong.
1. The maximum time for leaving a tampon in is 8 hours I think, longer than that, you are putting yourself at risk of TSS. If you changing it more than every 2 hours, opt for a thicker more absorbent tampon. 2. I don’t use tampons, but they shouldn't hurt when you take them out, might be inserting them wrong 3. Regular flow tampons should last as long as regular absorbent pads, not sure about this one :/ 4. My favourite brand is Libra, but I hear that U and Stayfree are good too
Hope this helps, and if you are having pain whilst inserting or exerting, maybe stick to pads?

They should be full when you take them out. Changing them too frequently can make you susceptible to TSS trust me I know from experience -_-; but sometimes it can hurt just a little cuz they get stuck. It is just the way the cookie crumbles but it is all normal

I'm one of those people who just cannot stand tampons. My trip to the beach was ruined last year because I so desperately did not want to put a tampon in to go swimming -_-;
that being said, I've worn them a few times, and I know if you have a light flow you can leave them in for 8 hours, but most people change them every for to six hours just as a precaution.
And I know what some of you mean about them awkward. I always put them in correctly but just because I know that it's there, it makes me uncomfortable.

I've been using them since my... third? fourth? period, when I was 12. I started with slims then switched to regulars. Thanks, Mom!
A tampon of the right size should be good for about 4 hours on average. If it takes longer, it's too big, and if it takes less it's too small. I learned to wear a panty liner to keep small spills contained while I learned which ones worked best for me.
At 21 and on the Pill I'm using regulars unless I plan to be out all day. Then I use supers because I HATE public toilets. I'll use them only if I have no choice.
Also, if you're afraid of "losing your virginity" if you use tampons, don't worry. You might tear your hymen a bit, especially if you're using super or super plus absorption, but virginity is a state of mind more than anything else.* (Plus, a guy who complains that you didn't bleed your first time is either severely misinformed or extremely insecure.)
*Disclaimer: I became sexually active really early, and my hymen was relatively intact in spite of tampon use.

I started using tampons when at last..a pool party fell on the same day as my period.. (before that I'd just gotten lucky. mrgreen ) Anyway, it doesn't hurt for me, it just feeels a bit weird pulling it out, because I guess I'm not used to you know, like feeling pressure down there. Unless its a really, sharp, painful feeling putting it in and pulling it out, I think your fine. ^^
