So, you wanna be a Professor? Well, here are a few things to know about being a Professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Current Professor Manager: 𝓖𝓻𝔂𝒇𝒇𝓲𝒆
Assistant Manager: ♥ Steffy ♥

1) As of February 1, 2015, before a member is allowed to create and play a professor, they must first become acquainted with the guild, and how the classrooms are managed. This means, new members must be a part of the guild for one school year (three months in real life), by first creating a student. Few exceptions will be made, those seeking an exception may PM addaellis. (Grounds for exceptions are: roleplaying as a professor in a previous school setting/Hogwarts roleplay, being a previous member that voluntarily left the guild, referrals or recommendation by the guild captains and/or vice captains etc.)

2) Read the Guild Rules. You need to do so before you can make a character in the guild.

3) Make your character.
4) Wait for a crew member to review your profile.
❖ Important note: Do not put yourself "Pending". Do not remove crew comment. Do not remove crew signature at the bottom of your profile once it has been pended/accepted. If you do any of the above three actions, a profile warning will be issued.
Title of Thread. Different titles mean different things.
❖ If you wait three days and it has yet to be approved, please contact the Professor Profiles Manager.
❖ Be sure to contact Professor Profile Checkers with any questions you might have.

5) When accepted, get ready to teach.
6) Teach class on your day.
        ❖ Award and deduct points.
❖ Post at least once a week.
❖ Follow the List of Knowledge as closely as possible.

So there you go! That's the basic info you need to know on being a Professor at Hogwarts!

We're pretty strict about the way a profile skeleton looks. Try to make it pretty, if you can. It's not required, but it's nice to see smile . Make sure you follow all the instructions in the parenthesis while you're putting your skeleton together and include all the information we ask for (if you want to spruce it up, feel free). Remove the parenthesis and everything in between them when you're done, please.

The Crew reserves the right to deny or accept anybody. Please make sure you follow the rules when applying.

Post this as your own thread in the Professor Profiles subforum with your character's name as the title. The crew will try very hard to get you accepted within a day or two. If it's been three days and you still haven't been accepted, PM the Professor Manager the link and they will check it out.

Do not bump your thread.

Once you've been accepted go get your classroom and office put together.

Professor Expectations
Updated 1/1/16

Here's all the information professors' need to know (and a little extra, too.)

Inactivity Policy
◆ As of January 1st 2016, a new policy for professor inactivity will be instated. In this policy, any professor deemed inactive (less than two posts) will receive a "Final Inactivity Notice" where you may either A) keep your professor and class, B) be placed on Hold, or C) have your professor removed. Any roleplayer who chooses to keep their professor and class will be placed on a "Probationary Period," which means that your professor will be required to post a minimum of two lessons. (Introductory posts of "getting to know" your students do not count. Both lessons must reflect the List of Knowledge.) Any roleplayer who cannot meet the requirements of their probationary period will be subject to either immediate termination or will be placed on Hold.

Introduction
◆ Add Essy ze Ninja as a friend once your professor has been accepted.

◆ Your classrooms will stay unlocked forever.

◆ Check your Updating Classroom Schedule. If you are teaching Potions for first years, second years, and third years, then you must update the Potions classrooms for those three years and their assignments. If on the schedule, Potions is on a Saturday to be updated, the Potions teacher must update all their assignments for their classes that day. To request a different day, PM Essy ze Ninja.

◆ Lessons will be available for a week before a class change.

◆ The Weather & Calendar on the guild front page can be used as a reference to the current timeline, year, and weather.

◆ If you're curious to know what time/day each of your classes are being held on for in-character roleplaying purposes, the Hogwarts Class Schedule, found in the Room of Requirement Subforum, has all of that information listed. (Note: the schedule is not when you or the students are required to post.)

◆ Classes are run on a weekly time frame. Two-three days after a lesson is given, professors may do minor updates (as in answering questions or performing demonstrations.) They must give sufficient time for students before continuing.

◆ Professor's cannot count a student late unless it has been four days since the assignment was given. It is up to the professor if they are given a detention or lose points. (If a lesson is given on Saturday, students posting on Wednesday or after would be considered tardy.)

◆ Do not post new lessons outside of the time slot provided to you. If you are to update your class on a Saturday, then you must do it on a Saturday. No other day.

◆ Simply post a new lesson in your class each time you update the class (if you update every Saturday, post a new lesson that Saturday for the students to do).

◆ The List of Knowledge explains what subject should be taught in each lesson for every year except seventh. Seventh years are strictly reviewing previous material to prepare for their NEWT'S.

◆ Professors cannot edit their List of Knowledge without specific permission from Essy ze Ninja.

◆ Students are required to roleplay in your classroom.

◆ Students are only required to post in two separate lessons in order to pass the class.

◆ If a student is absent (they PM you, come in to your office, have a personal character plot that prevents them from attending class, or posts in the absence thread), you have the choice to allow them to redo the lesson on a later date, whether in the same year or not.

◆ The Class List can be used to find which student is taking your class.

◆ Detentions can/should be served in the professor's office. You may give out detention to those whom you think deserve it.

◆ If you - the professor - will be absent for a long period of time, please post in the Professor Absences thread so we can find you a suitable substitute until you return.

◆ Professors must post all points awarded/deducted in the Reporting House Points thread found in the 'Staffroom' forum. Please award/deduct points by fives (e.g. 5, 10, 15, 20, etc.).

◆ If you can’t become a professor any longer PM Essy ze Ninja about it. Do not just up and leave. We need to know if we need to replace you.

◆ If your professor has a student in your class that also belongs to you, you may not immediately answer questions which award house points. You must wait at least 24 hours before attempting to answer the question (assuming no one else has).

Classroom Set Up
◆ Classrooms should be normal posts and not "Stickies" or "Announcements."

◆ If a professor is teaching a class which has more than one year attending it (e.g. first years, second years, third years, etc.), they must make separate classrooms for each year in their correct subforums. The classes then must be labeled as such (e.g. Charms I, Charms II, Charms III, etc.).

◆ For those teaching electives, you must have a class for third years and up and must create the classrooms starting in the Third Year Classes subforum. You will then label it as such (e.g. in the Third Year Classes subforum, you would have your Divination I, then in the Fourth Year Classes subforum, you would have your Divination II, etc.)

◆ The first post in your classrooms must have information about your class; your name, your house, and anything else you would like to add such as a list of homework assignments and updating class time. You may use pictures and decorate it as you'd like. The Second post must contain the List of Knowledge format specific for that year. The third post should be reserved for your professors post once classes are opened.

◆ If you would like to make an announcement to all of your students via the Guild Announcements, PM Essy ze Ninja the message that you would like to be announced with the title of the PM as "Announcements".

◆ Feel free to reference or link to your class's Textbooks offered in guild to help you in your lessons. (Not all classes have them.) Locked textbooks are completed and ready to be used, unlocked textbooks are incomplete and still under construction.

◆ Once you're done creating your classroom, you're free to set up your Professors Office. You can design the thread any way you wish, however, please title it "Professor (Surname's) Office".

Miscellaneous
◆ As a professor, it is your job to be a leader. Please abstain from showing any favoritism to your students or vice-versa.

◆ Aim to stay in character. If you're professor is a strict totalitarian, try not to be swayed so easily by your students. Yes, sometimes they will rebel. But you are the professor. It is up to you to lead them. However, if you're a carefree, easy-going professor, feel free to stray off topic during lessons, award students with candy or treats, or shower them with house points. It is your classroom. You lead it.

◆ If, at any time, you are confused, have a question, do not understand the lesson plan (List of Knowledge) or anything else, feel free to PM Essy ze Ninja. She is here to help you.

◆ Don't forget to reference The Spells' Guide for information regarding what year a student must be to cast a certain spell. (For example, diffindo, the severing charm, may be useful for pruning plants in Herbology, but only third years and above can cast it. Using it in a first or second year class would contradict the spell guide.)

◆ Homework is considered an out-of-character topic, (read a chapter from the textbook, study your spells, etc.) If it is not, then it is considered extra credit and should only require 1-3 sentences of a certain subject, or the answer to a simple riddle. Actual homework should never be required.

◆ House points should be awarded and deducted within reason. (Deducting -100 points from a student for walking out on your class is excessive. So is awarding more than +20 points for contributing to a discussion. The maximum number for deducting points from fighting students is -50 points each. The maximum for unexcused absentee students is -10 points at the end of the year, and not per lesson.)

◆ Detentions are not necessary to roleplay. They can be given in your office or they can be sent to their Head of House. Detentions can be creative. For example, if a student goofs off in class failing to learn a spell, their detention can be resolved around trying to cast and utilize the spell. They can also be simple: line writing, cauldron cleaning, desk de-gumming, etc. Under no circumstances should a detention belittle, demean, or seem unjust or cruel against a student.

◆ If a student is continuously disruptive and disrespectful, you may send the student to their Head of House or the Headmaster's Office. If you are the professor of an elective class, you may kick the student out of your class. To do so, please PM Essy ze Ninja with the name, year, and house of the student, as well as a reason why you'd like them removed from your class.

◆ As a professor, you're free to design your lesson plans in any way you wish (so long as it follows the List of Knowledge.) You may feel free to use the castle and its grounds, if it might help in your lesson. Just be sure to leave a note in the classroom for your students. You may also issue group projects, if you wish.

◆ There are ghosts and magical creatures (roleplayed by other gaians) which you may PM to ask to participate in classroom demonstrations if you so wish. (A ghost for Ghost and Ghoul Studies, or a centaur for Care of Magical Creatures class, for example.)

◆ Please remember, this guild is meant for our players (and students) to have fun! This guild has been around for a long time, and has undergone many changes in that time--most of which revolved around easing the workload-- which included homework and posting requirements.

◆ And above all else, draco dormiens nunquam titillandus. Never tickle a sleeping dragon!
