I have always had problems with my period ever since I started when I was 11 years old. I will be 21 in September and I am still not regular. For years I have been on birth control, and several types too, to help me, and for a while, I was doing all right.

Currently, I am on Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Like I said, it was working fine, but this month I began to have problems with my period. For starters, I started a week and a half early (8/9/12) and I AM STILL BLEEDING! Basically, it started and I was pissed because it came early, but I was like, "Eh, it happens."

A few days in, I start to spot and I figure I am about to end. Well, after I spotted for like a day or two, I suddenly became very heavy again and my period started all over again! >.<

This time around I have had more cramping, irritableness, and EXTREME tiredness. Yesterday I literally slept in until 3 PM when I HAD to wake up because I had to be at work at 4. I was yawning the whole time I was at work, and when I came home last night, I went to bed right away (which was around midnight-ish).

For me, that is VERY unusual since I am a bit of an insomniac. I take sleep aids to help me get to sleep and last night and the night before I did not really need them to help me sleep. Today I slept in a lot later than I wanted to since I went to bed so early, but I still did not wake up until almost 2 PM.

I am still tired now, but I know I cannot just sleep all day. I work tonight from 5-11 PM.

I do not know if I should be concerned or not. I have never had anything like this happen and it really sucks. My BFF Melissa says I should see my doctor again; she is always overly concerned, being practically my sister, but I wanted to know what you girls thought.

Has anything like this happened to you, and if it did, what did you do? I do not want to jump to conclusions since this could only be a fluke, yet, with my medical record, I am thinking that seeing a doctor might help.

Any advice would be much appreciated!!

Dont worry i've allways had problems with mine to and have had a few periods like the one you just described. Kind of like a double period, where as soon as one stops another starts. This was caused by stress for me, but I'm sure theres lots of triggers.

As to being tired i would say its highly likely your anaemic. you loose alot of iron if you have a heavy flow. Anaemia makes you tired, dizzy, weak. But its really easily fixed by some iron pills. Go to your doctor to get these and possibly while your there tell them the period issue. If its a permanent problem with heavy long periods, you might benefit from going on an iron rich diet? Just to try keep your energy up?

Sorry if thats not much help heart

On the contrary, this has helped me a lot. One, I know I am not alone, and two, you gave some good advice. In the past, I have been checked for anemia three times, and each time I have been told that I am fine, so I am not sure what is going on there :/ lolz

Though...oh s**t. I just thought of something. The doctor I go to is the same doctor that my BFF Melissa went to. Just last week she found out that the doctor had lied to her about her back; the doctor told her that her back was fine, but when she went to the hospital after having a severe allergic reaction to bee stings, she found out that her medical file says she has scoliosis. Her doctor had lied to her. She looked up her file online and saw that her doctor had documented that she had scoliosis, but never told her.

Now, what if that same doctor lied to me?

You said your double period was from stress? Yeah, I am under a TON of stress right now with so much going on, so that's probably why this happened to me. As for the anemia thing, who knows. Guess I need to find a new doctor for a second opinion. Meh.

Sorry for the rant...that whole doctor thing just came to me.

No worries 4laugh I know how stressful doctors can be. This one time a doctor lied and told me there was no glass in my foot even though i was fairly certain i'd stood on it. Well a few days latter i went to the hospital and there was glass in my foot but by that stage it required surgery to get it out! long story short its still in there stare Anyways that was a little of topic it just pisses me of when doctors lie about things.

i hope it goes well if you see a doctor. it may all just be stress related you never know.

As far as textbooks go, a woman's period doesn't really become "regular" until her mid-to-late 20s. I've never been on birth control so I can't say anything about that from experience. If you have more questions about birth control and their side effects, your gynecologist is the best person to contact. It may just come down to the fact that your body doesn't metabolize the one you're one the same way anymore, and you'll need to be switched.

A healthy diet and exercise also promotes a regular menstruation cycle. Stress is a common cause for a woman's period to become irregular - when I first started college I didn't have my period for 9 months, lol (freaked my then-boyfriend out, bahaha).

If you have any misgivings about your doctor, switch - that is a patient's right. It may not be because the doctor lied to you, it's because he's not good. There's a saying we have at work, it goes something along the lines of, "You can barely pass med. school, but if you graduate you're still a doctor."

Thanks to everyone who replied. I am feeling much better now that my two periods have ended. I still need to find a new doctor...I am done with one I normally go too. If I have any more problems, I will be sure to post them here. ^^
