Malcolm had, earlier, gone through the two students' enrollment forms in order to get a better sense of the type of exam he needed to set. It didn't take him very long to realize that both students originated from the same household. Clan. Family. Apart from that, the enrollment forms also mentioned something about their limited sight.
Which was the only reason why everything in the obstacle course had been dipped in ink. It was messy, but at least it wouldn't both Needle or Lattice at a disadvantage.
"Morning," He greeted the students once they arrived, "Your examination is simple - you just have to get to the other end of this obstacle course. However, you have to do it together, rather than individually."
Exam Mechanics What you have to do it simply roll 1d4 when it's your turn - the resulting number is the number of steps taken by both Needle and Lattice. However, you have to post one after the other! You "pass" when you get to the other end (Area 13). However, you have to do it within 8 rolls total, or it's a fail.
Note: You start off at Area 0, not 1!
Area... You ended up falling into a pit that had been covered by dried leaves; luckily, your partner was there to pull you up. Move on. The area was covered with dried leaves... Ow! You got a paper cut... From the edge of a leaf. Move on. The area was sandy, and made your feet itch. Still, it wasn't anything serious. Move on. Sand... Hey, what's this? There's a cactus here! For some odd reason, you felt compelled to pull your partner towards it. Over there, you found a canteen of water. Hm, it might come in handy later...? You took a sip each, and felt motivated; add 1 to your next roll! You got lost. Somehow. Even though the area was not very big at all. Move back one area. There are puddles of ink... Enticing puddles of ink. Roll 1d10; keep rolling till you get an even to resist the ink. Until you roll an even number, you find yourself playing in the ink puddles like a Scareling wearing rain boots on a rainy day. After rolling an even number, move on. As you walked on the sand, a light breeze helped to alleviate your spirits. Add 1 to your next roll! Sand was getting everywhere when you heard the weak yelping of a Foxfire (covered in ink); it seemed to be thirsty. If you have a canteen of water, the foxfire is grateful and leads you 2 areas forward! If not, you understand that the foxfire was simply acting to be thirsty, and found the heart to move on! You ended up falling into a pit that was hidden underneath piles of sand... And it was a secret passage leading to another area! Move 2 areas forward! A small cave that seemed to go on, and on, and on... Move on. You got pooped on by one of the hipbats that inhabit the cave you're currently in. Although it was gross, it did not have any other effects. Move on. You see a vague shape that resembles Professor Malcolm; it looks like he had been waiting for you.
Example of how the Mechanics work: Let's say Jack and Sally are taking the exam... Jack rolls 4; they now move from 0 -> 4, and have the +1 effect as well as the canteen of water. Jack RPs out the Area 4 scenario. Sally RPs out the Area 4 scenario. Sally rolls 3 + 1; they now move from 4 -> 8. Since they have the canteen, they feed the foxfire, and moves from 8 -> 10. Sally edits her post to RP out the Area 8 scenario, followed by the area 10 scenario. Jack RPs out the Area 8 scenario, followed by the area 10 scenario. Jack rolls 4; they now move from 10 -> 13 (as 13 is the maximum). Jack edits her post to RP out the Area 13 scenario. Sally RPs out the Area 13 scenario, and quotes Dragain to let her know that they are done.
Use the following form at the bottom of every post!
Area: 0 -> ??? (Subsequently, 0 -> ??? -> ??? -> and so on) Number of rolls: ???/8
Please quote me (Dragain) after you are done. Feel free to IM/PM me any questions you might have.

Her First Exam! Well, Their first! Aaa! So exciting! Needle was completely and utterly jittery, both in an amazing oh-my-jack way and a frightened oh-my-jack way. They would hopefully be advancing after this, and that meant...oh so many things. It meant more experiences, it meant more power, but it also meant one year closer to having to go home forever.
The last thought she did try to shove aside, to focus on the good.
Like Lattice, Needle had given a respectful bow to the Professor and listened as patiently as she could through the instructions. Get through an obstacle course. Okay! She - no, they - could do that! They started off together and she kept her hand firmly gripping her sister's, following over towards the curious cactus. She didn't think twice about accepting the canteen and drinking from it as well, instantly feeling the need to do things.
So she pulled Lattice along, eager to get ahead, but then...she came across some puddles of ink. Some strange sense of ghoulish joy bubbled up in her very core, and a giddyness overwhelmed her, the sort she hadn't felt since her days of climbing bell ropes.
Area: 0 -> 4 -> Number of rolls: 2/8
Quote: 6. There are puddles of ink... Enticing puddles of ink. Roll 1d10; keep rolling till you get an even to resist the ink. Until you roll an even number, you find yourself playing in the ink puddles like a Scareling wearing rain boots on a rainy day. After rolling an even number, move on.
