This was going to be interesting. Candace hadn't been in the Haunted House for quite some time, not since her encounter with Shun. Maybe she would see him again? That'd be kind of fun. She waited for Syd and Feng to arrive before leading them into the portal, shivering once they were on the other side of the portal. Holy s**t. What the hell? She was wearing her coat and yet...talk about temperature change.

Candace rubbed her arms and shook her head. Weird.. "Come on, let's just waste time." She wasn't feeling like this a second ago. Weird.

Status

Rolling a 6: ALL STUDENT/ HUNTER HP IS HALVED. You feel tired.... cold...numb. It becomes increasingly hard to focus as the battle draws on.

Syd stepped into the cold, then frowned slightly. She was even wearing layers, yet she was freezing. Her breath puffed in front of her and she stared at it for a moment. "We--We're supposed to be doing research," she said, her teeth chattering slightly as she rubbed her arms. "On... insanity."

She was intent on finding out at least one thing before... before what? There was something she was forgetting...

Feng stepped through the portal... and immdiately wanted to cry and run back through to the other side. He wrapped his arms tight around himself and crossed his eyes as he watched his breath rise in a slow fog.





"Waste time doing what? Huddling together and not freezing to death?" That sounded nice. And a little creepy. Look guys, he wasn't using the cold just to touch you, promise.  

[Eight]

Candace frowned and reached over to tug Syd close to her, an arm around the trainee's shoulders. "Yeah.." Research. Right. She looked up at the house in front of them and then at Feng. He had a point. "It's not usually this cold here. That's...odd.." Something to add to her observation, maybe?

"Try to keep your guard up. Let's check out the grounds first before we go inside."

((ARE YOU TWO OKAY WITH ADDING A ! TO THE TITLE? 'Cause I'm totally ready for it.))

Syd's hands tightened on the crossbow, forcing herself to remember what they were there for. She moved closer to Candace unconsciously, since it was warmer where there was more than one person. "I don't like this," she said needlessly. "I wasn't here for what happened the last time, but if it's anything like the floating island... are we expecting some sort of large insanity monster?"

Feng kicked around at the dirt surrounding the house some. A small part of him (admittedly, the part that also believed in rainbow unicorns) hoped that he'd uncover a heating blanket or something. It was a silly wish, but everyone is allowed one of those once in a while.

"God, I hope not. Does it have to be a big monster? Why can't it be a small monster? Maybe cute. A little fluffy." He shaped his hands around an invisible ball of what was assumed to be a small, cute, fluffy monster and smiled wistfully at the empty air. Their luck, it would be a huge monster. With teeth and gnarly things.

The creature that emerged from the fog was not small, nor was it fluffy. Cute depended on entirely who was asked, though probably not. But it was not huge either, merely standing approximately 15 feet tall, staring down at the intruders.

"Home."

His claws reached out, aiming for the closest two, claws shooting past them and then curling in, trying to draw them closer, to pinch them between his claws and pierce them on his spines.

"Last ti--oh, you mean the mission Clarice was referring to? I was there.." Wait, where? Oh, right. The mission. Right. Uh...well..yeah, things happened. "Not sure what to expect this time."

Candace tried not to laugh at Feng's request for what kind of monsters they encountered. "Let's hope we find a ghost Pomeranian then, eh? Nothing more terrifying than--s**t!" How the ******** did a giant 15-foot-tall praying mantis sneak up on them?! What the hell?! Atropos was summoned immediately, letting go of Sydney in a desperate hope she wouldn't get dragged. It seemed the Mantis had other ideas.

"Get. Off!" She kicked hard, pushing and shoving at the claws trying to close around her.

Sydney jerked as she was hit, not even having the breath to curse. She stared for a second at the massive bug, wondering what it was about Halloween and oversized bugs. First the twins--the centipede things, that was, now this ugly piece of work.

Izy told her. So she did.

"There are pomeranian ghosts?" Feng squeaked, right before a monster more than twice his height surprised them. He stumbled backwards, eyes wide, and swiped his fingers down the lightning bolt pendant that turned into his weapon. Shang's heavy weight was a reassuring confidence in his hands.



He did just that, slamming the head of the dragon into the massive monster. "Don't touch them!"

"Home."

The one was putting up more resistance, fighting harder. A bigger threat. He struck at her with the tip of his claw, marred as it was by her attack, other claw lashing out at the one he had yet to focus on. But despite not feeling too weakened, insane as he was, his attack proved weak.

s**t! She winced and backed off as the mantis struck her arm, looking down at the small bleeding gash it left behind. Goddamnit. Candace pulled her scarf off and wrapped it around her arm where she was cut, tying it off at the end to keep it in place. It was slopping having been done with one hand and her teeth, but it would do for now.

Once that was done Candace ran at the creature, jumping and aiming a hard kick for his face.

"Home."

It was impressive that the invader had jumped up to kick his face, most could not hit a target almost 15 feet in the air, and he was not expecting it, did not dodge it. Simply dissipated back into the fog.

"What WAS that thing?" Syd asked, getting to her feet and wincing as the pain from the hit hit her. "And that was amazing," she added. "That kick was beautiful, Candace," she said. Although she wasn't sure if praise was the best thing for this situation--

"Should we return to the tent to bandage our wounds?" she asked. Was another going to show up? She'd rather they didn't.  

[Eight]

"It looked like a weird praying mantis.." Candace muttered, lifting her arm to check on it. The blood hadn't started to seep through the scarf just yet. Good. She didn't feel..terrible. Certainly not as great as she should feel after a fight so short but not like she was about to collapse. She could hold out a bit longer...but could the trainees? She was distracted from her concerns by Syd's praise, grinning at Syd and giving her a thumb's up. "Thanks! You two did well, too."

At Syd's question Candace hummed thoughtfully, looking from Syd to Feng and back again. "I'm okay, but we can go if the two of you want. I don't want you guys getting too banged up when this is just supposed to be about information. Feng?"
