Running from one room into the other, not even sure if she'd actually left the first room, Belladonna didn't stop until she tripped over herself. For a second she caught herself but gravity, as well as a combination of exhaustion and mixed emotions, pitched her to the floor. The heels of her hands thumped against the floor, or what should have been the floor had a thick layer of fog not impeded the sight of such a thing. A long moment passed where she only sat there, panting with eyes wide as she stared into the continually changing swirls of the fog. For a few moments too long she stared, completely distracted by the little tendrils that curled around her arms and hair as well as the other objects in the room.
The room was fairly large and looked mostly unused, though a few indeterminate shapes resided in the far corners. If one were to stare at them, they looked liked benches, or perhaps beds, or even perhaps very large trunks. But if one were to actually move forward and inspect them, they would change entirely and instead become something altogether different. Should the fog ever be diminished from the floor a large area rug could be found underneath, thread bare and worn, though perfectly juxtaposed underneath a haggard looking chandelier far above on the ceiling. Windows resided on the far edges of the room, but did not look out into anything else but more fog.

Finally, after she finally was able to push herself up off the floor, she turned to watch Alexander. The strangeness in her face finally coalesced into something more substantial, something that made her look rather regretful. It took another second or two of her just looking at him, wavering between crying and just being pitiful, before she finally stammered out a sentence.
"I d-didn't mean to yell... I-I'm sorry..."

Running, ugh! Alex was terrible at moving quickly, and chose not to do so most of the time. Nearly all of the time, really. But after what had just transpired....well, he wasn't about to lose his zombro's ghoulfriend in the fog, or to the fog, if he could help it. And so he followed, calling out the ghoul's name, urging her to stop, to slow down, to just listen. Because he hadn't meant to treat her as he had done earlier. He had not meant to make her feel like she was untrustworthy, and he had definitely not wanted to hurt her by enlightening her with the knowledge that her boilfriend was no longer what he used to be.

"Belladonna, wait! Please!" How many times had he called out to her now? He'd lost count somewhere along the way. He was struggling to keep up with her. For such a tiny thing, she could certainly move quickly! He barely caught glimpses of her through the fog, a flash of hair here, a glance of clothing there.

It was probably lucky for him that she was finally halted by whatever it was that sent her sprawling to the floor. "Belladonna..." He murmured, softly, while halting himself and then shuffling slowly forward, one hand extended to offer her help back to her feet.

"No. It's me who should be apologizing. I shouldn't have been so blunt. I should not have snapped at you or yelled at you and I'm sincerely sorry." This was all so horrible. It was all too much. They should have been helping each other. They might have been the only two sane students left in this fog shrouded house and yet they had momentarily found themselves at odds with each other, instead of working to get through this, together.

A startled, half-crazed laugh exited the witch as she took Alexander's hand and hoisted herself up onto her feet. The laugh didn't want to stop, and she pressed a hand to her mouth in attempt to cease its wayward enthusiasm.
"I believe this fog is making me insane. I... I have no quarrel with you, I only--" Whatever laugh quickly died on her lips as she let go of his hand and moved the hand from her mouth to the side of her head. A clump of hair touched her skin, but it was welcome as anything visceral might keep her together. Perhaps it would have been best to keep a hold of his hand, the witch just could not push herself to reach for him again. Not when he was the bearer of such terrible news. Unfair though it might be, the witch instead took a hesitant step back and brought her other hand to the side of her head.
"No, its alright... I think... I think something is wrong with this... This place! With this fog... Its just like last time..."
Only far, far worse.
Last time there had been only voices, now there were strange emotions. Her pink eyes flickered occasionally to the changing shape of the furniture in the corners of the room, but she always returned her gaze to the zombie.

After a second of just holding her palms against her ears, of hoping the voices would ebb, Belladonna finally changed another set of words.
"Alexander, you...You say my whole name... Did you know hardly anyone does that?" It was such a trivial, inconsequential thing. It did not matter one small bit in the entirety of anything, but it was just a group of words to say that kept her from the inevitable.
Slowly she lowered her hands, though they hovered awkwardly by her heart.
"Is he... Is he really...?" Was all she could manage, eyebrows drawn up in worry. There was no way she could speak her beloved's name, not when such an awful fate could have befallen him. Normally she would try to hide her emotions, try to make it seem as though she felt something else, but with such a serious topic... About such a precious thing... About something she felt so strongly for... Belladonna could only stare at Alexander and hope he was wrong, wrong, wrong.

Alex narrowed his eye at her as he pulled the witch up and to her feet, her laughter cutting through him, it's very sound quite unsettling. He knew she wasn't doing it on purpose, and that hysteria was likely setting in, but he needed to her snap out of it, and to be strong, so that they could get out of this mess together!

He just nodded at her, slowly, letting her pull away from him easily, not fighting to hold on to her when she clearly needed some space, and time to think. "We have to keep fighting it." He said, softly, watching her carefully as she continued to move away. "Belladonna, I need you to keep fighting it, please."

He had to wonder at what she meant by "last time". He had not been enrolled in the academy back then, when the students had gone on a field trip to the island. Attending Amityville likely hadn't even been a thought in his head back then. But he didn't ask her. Questions like that could really wait until later. She had so much more to deal with right now and Alexander...Alex was just needing to become numb to all of this, or he was going to go insane himself. There was really only so much of this he could take anymore, and it seemed like his limit was finally being reached.

Her statement about him using her full name made him start, and his eye widened a bit as his mouth hung slightly agape. What an..odd thing to bring up at a time like this. But now that she mentioned it...yes, he was using her full name, wasn't he? He just...maybe it was a habit that had rubbed off on him. Something he had picked up from the months that he had spent, nearly inseparable from Yin. "Yes." Was his only reply to that, finally, an outstretched hand falling back down to his side as he shrugged.

It didn't mean anything.

And then she was asking him again, about Mort, and he let out a heavy sigh, eye lids closing as he answered that question as well. "Yes. From what I hear, he is really....just like..." His face began to crumple, and he tilted his head down so that it was facing the ground, fighting against the emotions welling up inside of him, getting a handle on himself before he spoke again.

"Just like Yin, and Amrita. He's like them now." He tilted his face back up, opened his eye, face carefully blank, voice strong even though he felt far from it.

Numb. Numb. He had to become numb or he was going to lose his mind.

The continually changing edges of the room distracted the witch enough that she missed the look Alexander gave her. It was best that way, or she would have been hurt by his continual distrust of her. Finally she was able to concentrate on him for a moment more, to see him nod with his face set. This held her attention, made her pause in her path away from him.
Keep fighting?
Her own voice in her head sounded strange, almost enough to distract her further but Alexander kept going. His voice stronger than her own scared one, even if it was soft. For a long moment the witch only stood there and stared at him, pink eyes trained on his one.
If he had said 'You have to keep fighting' or 'You can do this', he would have lost her to the voices in the fog and the sorrow and the strange flickers in the room. Had Alexander put that sentence in any other way, Belladonna would have denied this request and flounced her way into despair. But because he phrased it with his own needs present, because he said it as though it were a favor, something she could give to him, the witch took a deep breath. Her clenched hands unfurled, fingertips brushed away the fog that clung to her nails.
Slowly, as though she were concentrating very hard on bringing herself back from the brink of being lost, Belladonna nodded. Already the shackles were being shrugged away as she took a step toward him, glad she was not alone.

The small 'yes' about her name did not receive a reaction, because the sigh that fell from him caught her first. Something tried to hitch inside her, some long curled black finger groped for her heart but the witch only took another step closer to the boil. What was happening now, here in this room, was real and tangible and could be dealt with. Maybe not in the healthiest of manners, but Belladonna needed to be strong just as Alexander had asked.
An image was trying to form in her mind, but the witch only let a strangled little "Oh" fill her senses as she took the final steps forward toward the boil. He was tall enough that she could lean forward and press her forehead to his chest, her arms pulled tight across her front so that her balled up fists pressed against her mouth.
You're not alone.
The blow of Mort being lost hurt enough that she felt stripped of all emotions, but realizing that Yin was the same, that Alexander probably felt the same way made the witch nearly cry. She squeezed her eyes tight, glad her face was hidden against Alexander's front so he would not see her momentarily break. For a little while longer she stood there, trying her best to keep from openly sobbing about all this. Alexander hurt just as much as she, probably even worse and he had asked a favor of her.
Something she could not refuse. Strength was something that could be shared, so the witch just stood there and tried to search for such a thing within herself, using Alexander's strength to hold her up.

Finally she took a deep breath in and let it out slowly. She felt far too fragile in such a moment, when she should have felt like steel. Instead she did what she was best at, and instead let a false sense of strength tense her shoulders. Even pretend armor could protect, if only for a little while.
"We will find a way. There has to be something we can do. Something to get them back. We'll find it." Belladonna managed in a small, but strong, voice. It was the best she could manage without looking at the boil, as her tear strained face was not what he needed in such a moment. She did not remove her forehead from his chest, as she needed just a few moments more to fully collect herself.

At first the whispers were unnoticeable, background noise constantly cycling at the edge of their senses and as intangible as smoke. A chair shifted into an armrest, an armrest melted into another half formed figure and made a wispy table, and even that only lasted for seconds before it melted away into the teeming mass of gray and white. The fog continually shifted and changed, so it seemed like nothing at first when one of the windows clouded over. What stuck out was how it remained like that.

Little by little the foggy mass pulled from its surroundings, and as limbs began to be shaped a low, almost guttural growl was heard from the center of the condensed fog. Mist roiled forth around its legs as two arms, one disfigured but both ending in pointed claws, stretched forth. And from above them came two glinting blue eyes that seemed to glow within the cavern created by its hood as it glared down at the pair.

Thicker tendrils of chilly fog left his legs and began to creep up theirs, leeching warmth with a noticeable edge as it called for them to go Home.

Alex watched Belladonna carefully as she approached, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible. He knew she was in a fragile state at the moment, knew because he was in one himself. He didn't want her to become paranoid again, or to feel like she couldn't trust him. "I'm so sorry," He whispered, as she finally came near enough to rest her head against him. He reached up with one hand to rub her back lightly, trying to be as comforting as an overly tall and incredibly cold zomboil could be.

"Belladonna...I don't want to get your hopes up, but there might be a way I can----" His voice cut off mid-sentence as his gaze suddenly locked on the fog. It was shifting and changing, and no, that wasn't actually any different then usual. But something just seemed off. Maybe his zombro senses were tingling, but Alexander suddenly reached out with both hands, grabbed Belladonna by the shoulders and pushed her to the side, taking a step forward so that he was effectively in front of her.

"He's here." His voice was barely audible as the fog continued to shift, to change and take shape into the hooded figure. There was no mistaking it. This was not just a figment of Alex's imagination, though it would have been so much better if it had been.

Mort was here, as though summoned by the conversation that they had been having.

The fog Mort didn't lash out at them, but the foggy tendrils that came towards them were enough. Alex suddenly felt cold, which was no small trick considering he was dead and cold all of the time anyways.

He didn't know what to do. He didn't know if he should use the vial now, or if they needed to wear the monster down first. Medea had given no clear instruction on the matter.

Better safe then sorry. Alexander would fight.

He shuffled forward a little bit, pale eye narrowing. "I'm sorry, buddy." Then he swung a fist, barely grazing the edge of the fog.

Jack damnit, he sucked at this.

The apology was one the witch felt she should have given as well, but only nodded into his chest. Should she try to speak again after such a kind gesture as his hand on her back, her voice would surely break and ruin the entire illusion of strength. So for a little longer she would only stand there and try to gather what she could, stuff the fleeting feelings somewhere within her and--
Just the simple sound of the word 'hope' had her pulling her head back to look up at Alexander, face completely devoid of anything but the barest glimpse of the mentioned emotion. Telling the witch not to get her hopes up was a bit like telling the pumpkin sun not to rise in the morning. Already the half uttered phrase he had given her was taken, distorted into something else entirely as she stared up at him, pink eyes wide with hope.
Even when he cut the words off, stopped them before he was finished and gazed off at something behind the witch, Belladonna could not stop the little blossom in her chest. In such a dark and dank place it began, something she would not have stopped even if she wanted it.

Instead the little accumulation of hope shattered with the zombie's next words and Belladonna only managed a startled "What?!" before she was ushered behind him. A strangled note greeted the mist monster, but the witch only took one more step backwards.
No. No no no no please Hecate no no no
The tendrils that laced up her ankle bit into her skin and a hand swatted them away, but the witch did little else. Quietly her heels were raised and lowered back onto the tendrils, as though a simple stomp could rid her of this nightmare, but she only continued to back up. The room had been deceptively large, for after a few more steps her back met the wall and she nearly screamed. Both hands pressed back against the solid surface, trying to decide what to do.
"Are you--Do I? Alexander, Oh Hecate, I cannot fight him--" She managed to stammer out before she turned her face and clenched her eyes closed. This could not possibly be happening.
But it was, despite her best attempts not to look, it was and she was getting pulled into it and no amount of false armor could protect her from this.

The fog pervaded still even as it was swatted or stomped away, persisting nuisances paralleling the whispers that continued to buzz in the background. A garbled, dark voice rose above them.

W̡͡EAK̵̀

The floor began to be engulfed in roiling gray and white mists as the figure took a ponderous, threatening step forward. These were the kinds of things invading his Home? Insects. Yet something about their closeness when he had first appeared stirred its already enraged state of mind, and with the witch furthest away it was Alex who had the incoming hand trying to knock him off his feet.

Insects needed to be crushed.

"Belladonna just...." He didn't know what she should do either. Fog Mort was massive, and had glowing claws, and really looked like he could crush Alexander with one well placed blow. If they had any chance of surviving this, then he was going to need some help.

Maybe that's what she could do. Maybe she could go and find help while Alexander kept Mort distracted. But with this fog....that just seemed like an awful idea the moment it leaped into Alexander's mind. Of course she couldn't run off to find help! How would she ever find anybody and find her way back in time, if at all?

A giant and deadly looking hand was swinging down towards him, and Alexander was forced to dive to one side, leaving the witch who had backed up into the wall behind him exposed. He somehow managed to kick at the hand as it came near, barely nicking it with his skeletal foot before he landed onto the floor and rolled.

"If we have any chance of curing him, I think we have to weaken him first." The zomboil gasped, pale eye seeking out the red headed ghoul as he rolled to his hands and knees and scrambled back up to his feet. He didn't expect her to hit him. He knew it was hard but...

"Just talk to him! Pretend it's a spar!" That's what Alex would have done, if it had been Yin. That's actually what he was trying to do now.

The mist was such a tortuous sight that Belladonna focused on it instead, so she only caught snapshots of what was happening. A flash of an enlarged, clawed hand, a snippet of fog the seemed to form shoulders and hood, a glance of Alexander doing his best to defend the witch. Honestly if it had been any other moment she might admonish him for leaping to her defense when she could very well do it on her own, but in such a moment all she could do was try not to stare. It was an awful sight that hurt far more than she expected it to, and after having nearly emptied herself of emotions, everything suddenly felt far more intense.
And what was worse was the fact that Alexander had just asked her to be strong for him, told her that he essentially couldn't go this alone. Perhaps that was why, despite her massive hesitation and the way she could feel her heart tearing apart in her chest, she still held a hand and summoned her cards. Dutiful as ever they appeared in her palm, but as Belladonna was ready to set them to the air, to let them form a half circle around her what what with her back still to the wall, the fear set in. What if she really hurt him? What if this cure didn't actually work? What if, what if, what if?
Such fear stayed her attempts and instead Belladonna only closed her hand over her deck and pulled it back to press against the wall.

Being a bit false and pretending at things was something the witch was quite good at. What she excelled at was talking.
"M-Mort?" She tried, though her voice broke painfully on the note. Taking Alexander's advice was really a wretched idea, truly dreadful. The last time the couple had sparred together they had honestly fought, enough so that both ended up fairly emotionally broken at the end. Belladonna had even sobbed all over her poor zombie, but today she would take that opportunity with relish.
But dearest Alexander was trying, just for her and instead the witch took another breath and gestured toward the Mist Mort with her free hand.
"Y-your home is here! If that's what you're looking for! We are your home!"
It felt silly and useless to talk, but the witch wouldn't stop. Not if in any way, shape or form, it would help.
"Please! Stop this! We're your friends! We're here to help!" Belladonna felt she and Alexander were far more than friends, having reached some unnameable thing, but unable to even cast about for the appropriate words in which to articulate that. No, for now she had to stare up into the morphed face of her beloved and try very hard not to cry.

Noise. So much awful, warbly noise. The zombie was closer, but the witch was more annoying. Moreover, she was still against the wall. Stuck in place.

Weak.

Ignoring Alexander entirely, he lurched forward again and swung his disfigured arm in a horizontal arc to shut the insect up . Nothing mattered except Home, and the fact that she was acting like she could even possibly know -

Alexander watched with some amount of relief when Belladonna summoned her cards. It was going to be okay, because together they could do this. Together they could take him down and try to give him the cure from the vial that Alexander had snagged from the horseman tent.

And then she stopped, and started talking. Okay, this really was not what Alexander had in mind when he had told the ghoul to 'talk' to him. From his past experience, these fog monsters were completely unreasonable and appeared to have a one track mind. Mort probably didn't even recognize Belladonna at this point!

Mort moved forward, And Alexander braced himself for the blow that he assumed was coming, but the fog monster brushed right past, heading straight for the red headed witch. "NO!" Alexander cried out. "Belladonna, MOVE!"

But it was too late, he was already upon her, swinging down on her. The zomboil could only look on in horror, and moved forward, throwing himself at the fog.

"No, Mort!" He needed to keep Belladonna alive, so that they had a chance to be reunited. Inspiration struck as he drew forward, and he reached out to give the fog monster a swat that likely hurt it not in the least bit. But he was trying to draw it's attention, to get it away from Belladonna.

"Hey, buddy? You know that home of yours? Well I'm going to burn it to the ground!"

Ya, hopefully that would get his attention.

Talking had not only been a very bad idea, but an absolutely horrible idea. Honestly the worst idea in a while. Because the moment that mist monster turned toward her, Belladonna was stuck. Plastered against the wall by not only his gaze but his intent, the witch only managed to gasp before the hit came. The hand that struck her was massive and the pain exploded across so much of her that she wasn't exactly sure what was hit. Still, as she allowed herself to be pushed off the wall by the hit, Belladonna still couldn't help the little fleeting feeling of gratitude that it wasn't lightning.
The previous shouts from Alexander fell hollowly around the ghoul as she momentarily crumpled onto the floor, a layer of fog quick to cover her body. With a deep breath in she felt its tendrils wind inside her nose and for whatever reason, that woke her up when nothing else would.
With a flick she tossed one card toward the monster before she scrambled up and away from it.

Toward the side opposite Alexander, so that the monster would be forced to choose a side. It wasn't a good idea, but it was the best she had at the moment. Still, she'd landed at least one little hit and her cards finally hung in the air, a lazy circle around her as Belladonna clutched at the shoulder that'd been hit. It hurt like hell, and if the witch wasn't careful she was going to be on the loosing side of this battle. Naturally, that couldn't happen as Alexander had spoken of a way to cure this. And Belladonna would be damned if she didn't try and hold out for that purpose too.
Unwilling to draw more attention to herself, the witch only kept tight lipped, though she did nod meaningfully at Alexander.
Hecate, am I going to owe him!
But that was alright. There would be time to pay this off, to make this even. They would get out of this, all of them together.
