Bouncing Bulbs

User Image

Description:
A Bouncing Bulb is a magical plant which jumps around if it is not restrained. Bouncing Bulbs' main stem is a disproportionate purple bulb, with a bunch of leaves growing on the top. Young Bouncing Bulbs are small enough to handle, but mature ones can reach the size of doorways.

Destroying:
Bouncing Bulbs can be aggressive when they feel threatened; they jump towards the possible attacker and try to hit it. A simple Knockback Jinx could stop a young Bulb, but a mature one would require using the Fire-Making Spell to wither it, because it is quite strong.

Bubotubers

User Image

Description:
A Bubotuber is a type of magical plant, the visible part of which is said to resemble a large, thick, black slug. This portion of the plant also squirms of its own volition. The surface of a bubotuber is covered in shiny protrusions, which when squeezed yield a thick, yellowish-green pus that has an odour akin to that of gasoline/petrol.

Uses:
Bubotuber pus acts as a treatment for severe acne, but undiluted pus can affect unprotected skin in unintended ways. This suggests that bubotuber pus is a topical treatment, but that the actual salve consists of the pus either diluted in a solution or mixed with other ingredients.

Whomping Willows

User Image

Description:
The Whomping Willow is a very valuable, very violent species of magical plant. Whomping Willows attack anyone and anything that comes within range of its branches. A deciduous plant, its limbs function as arms and any damage to them must be treated in much the same way.

Famous Whomping Willows:
The most famous Whomping Willow is the one planted on the grounds of Hogwarts. The Whomping Willow was planted around the year 1971 to disguise the opening of a secret passage leading from the Hogwarts grounds to the Shrieking Shack in the village of Hogsmeade. This allowed Remus Lupin to travel unnoticed to and from the Shrieking Shack, where he was able to undergo his transformation as a werewolf in privacy.

Usage:
Whomping Willow's are used to protect a given location. They can also be used as weapons, in some cases.

Warning:
Do not approach these trees unless you are prepared to fight for your life. This tree has the capability to easy pound a grown man into the ground like a hammer pounds in a nail.

Devil's Snare

User Image

Description:
Devil's Snare is a plant with the magical ability to constrict or strangle anything in its surrounding environment or something that happens to touch it. Struggling or resistance to Devil's Snare will cause the plant to exert a greater force of constriction. It is composed of a mass of soft, springy tendrils and vines that possess some sense of touch. This plant uses its creepers and tendrils to ensnare anyone who touches it, binding their arms and legs and eventually choking them.

Warning:
The harder a person struggles against Devil's Snare, the faster and more tightly it binds them; if they relax, it will not kill them as quickly. It seems when a victim relaxes, and the plant no longer senses struggle or tension, it will pull its victims under its knarled vines and drop the bodies to the ground underneath, possibly because it registers that the victim has perished.

Destroying:
Devil's Snare prefers a dark, damp environment. It will stop its movement in the environment in front of bright light and will recoil away from the heat of fire, so a well-placed flame spell such as bluebell flames will drive it away from its victims.

Usage:
Devil's Snare is used to guard valuable objects. It is also used as a weapon by skilled herbologists, as well as a means of assassination.

Other:
Devil's Snare does not seem to be common, but certain herbologists have access to it. It resembles the plant flitterbloom. In 1991, Professor Sprout placed a large Devil's Snare as the second defence of the Philosopher's Stone, just below the trapdoor guarded by Fluffy. In 1992, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley were caught in the plant when they attempted to prevent the theft of the Philosopher's Stone. In 1995, Broderick Bode, an Unspeakable working for the Ministry of Magic, was a comatose patient at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, after having been Impuriused into attempting to steal a prophecy from the Department of Mysteries. When Bode began to recover, a Death Eater sent a potted Devil's Snare to the hospital in the guise of a Christmas gift in order to silence him. Healer Miriam Strout apparently mistook the plant for a flitterbloom, and it asphyxiated Bode. In 1998, during the Battle of Hogwarts, Professor Sprout used Devil's Snare against the attacking Death Eaters and giants. They were placed around the castle of Hogwarts by Pomona Sprout and Neville Longbottom.

Screechsnaps

User Image

Description:
Screechsnap is a magical plant with the ability to move and make noise. It is also described as a "semi-sentient" plant for having the ability feel both pain and pleasure.

Other:
During a fifth-year Herbology lesson in 1996, Susan Bones distractedly put an excessive amount of dragon manure on her tray of Screechsnap seedlings, which made them squirm and squeak in irritation.

Self-fertilising Shrubs

User Image

Description:
The self-fertilising shrub is a plant that feeds on flesh. Given its name, it has the ability of producing its own fertiliser.

Warning:
Obviously, this plant eats flesh. Do not handle these plants without proper protection and a wand handy in case of an emergency.

Snargaluff

User Image

Description:
The Snargaluff is a plant with the appearance of a gnarled stump, but hides dangerous thorn-covered vines that attack when provoked and is usually best handled by more than one person. It contains green pulsating pods about the size of a grapefruit which can be extracted.

Usage:
During the Battle of Hogwarts, Professor Sprout and other students of Hogwarts used Snargaluff pods as weapons against the attacking Death Eaters.
