PostPosted: Sun Jan 27, 2013 8:27 pm
What are Mythical Pae'il?

Mythical Pae'il are rare and mysterious. It is unknown where they come from.

:[ RP Information ]:
  • They are ultra-rare
  • They will be based on mythical creatures, and use editted existing Pae'il bases.
  • They have unique breeding guidelines
  • They have unique power guidelines
  • They do not belong to any faction unless their player chooses to have them in one
  • They will have the stereotypical behavior listed, but no player has to stick to that if they want to provide a unique personality.
  • They will have a leader, but the leader will not be ranked among Telrunya's leadership, only their own type. The leader exists for order and rule enforcement among their own culture. The Leader will be chosen from among the Role-players (not necessarily staff) who are active and responsible.

Harpy Pae'il

________________Th first discovered Mythical Pae'il type. Known throughout Pae’il history as mythical songbirds inhabiting only storybooks and bedtime stories.

:[ What are Harpy Pae'il? ]:
The first known Harpy Pae'il on Telrunya was brought here by Venus, Goddess of Love. She brought the Harpy to serve as her songbird as a Harpy's song is the most beautiful sound to the Gods.

    :[ Habitat ]:
    • Live in nests, preferably in the tallest trees
    • Some will build nests on tall mountain peaks
    • They are territorial

    :[ Biology ]:
    • Female only
    • Half Pae'il, half-bird anatomy
    • Babies hatch from eggs, naked, called “chicks”
    • Children are covered in fluffy down and are called “nestlings” because they can’t fly or leave the nest, they are dependent on their mothers for survival
    • Teens start growing feathers but still have down on their upper body. They will molt all of their down before becoming an adult. Referred to as “fledglings” this is the stage where they learn to fly as their feathers start growing in and their muscles get stronger.
    • They are carnivores and have sharp teeth and talons on both their feet and hands

    :[ Reproduction ]:
    • Can only reproduce with male Pae'il, of any type
    • Offspring will always be 2 Harpy (female) eggs.
    • Can be in relationships with any Pae'il, of any gender, however, female couples cannot breed.
    • Very protective of their eggs, however, they are not very maternal once the eggs hatch
    • Once one of the eggs hatches, it becomes the favorite and the second is often neglected, depending on the nestmate for survival
    • If the second chick falls from the nest, the mother will not retrieve it (for RP purposes, this will be the chick that goes to live with the father)

    :[ Typical Behavior ]:
These are only guidelines, as they can have any personality the player wants to give them.
    • Simple-minded
    • Prefer to do things on their own, without help
    • Quick to attack if they feel offended
    • Spiteful
    • Fiercely loyal to and protective over those they bond to

    :[ Unique Abilities & Powers ]:
    • Talented singers (however, they cannot charm or enthrall any Pae'il)
    • Fast & high flyers -- fastest on Telrunya
    • Excellent eyesight (Eagle Eyes)
    • Stronger than a normal Pae'il (able to carry the weight of a full-grown Pae'il in their talons as they fly) but not super strong.
    • Can withstand any temperature climate
    • Harpies do not possess any magical abilities nor claim any connection to magic, which is atypical of a Pae'il, of any type.
    • They do not get a special, unique power like other Pae'il. They all have the same abilities.
    • Weak against offensive magic spells cast on them

:[ Factions, Associations & Meta-Plot Information ]:
  • Harpies are neutral, and do not belong to any faction, unless they choose one.
  • Harpies are associated with the Element of Air. (this will be important later on)
  • If a Harpy does decide to join a particular faction, they will be subject to that faction's rules and laws.
  • Just because they are neutral, doesn't mean all pae'il will be neutral towards them.

:[ Elusive, Super Rare Males ]:
A small group of vacationers discovered the existence of Thunderbird, a revered being living in secret on Venus' Fantasy Island. Thunderbird is believed to be a male harpy - which is thought to be extinct.
  • Male harpies are meant to be super rare, so not everyone will have one.
  • Instinct will draw any female, even lesbian, towards a male. They are irresistible due to pheromones. The presence of a male will elevate the aggression in females towards each other as they compete for mating rights.
  • Males are typically not as aggressive or strong as females, but personalities do vary.
  • Currently, the only reliable method to obtain a male is through breeding. Only harpy pairs have a chance to have a boy, and even still, the chances are slim. When a harpy pair are up for breeding, each player should roll a d100, and if the result 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, or 99, then they will get a boy. Otherwise, the eggs will always be female.
  • Male harpies can enter into relationships with any other type of pae, but can only sire harpy offspring with female harpies. In a mixed couple, the offspring will be the same as the mother.
  • Same abilities as female harpies, but they have the extra ability to create electrostatic discharges. A less powerful version of this ability will be passed on to offspring, diluting by half with each new generation.

The Vermillion Fire Bird has been discovered! Just like the Thunderbird, his kids will inherit his abilities to engulf themselves in flame.

    :[ UPDATE 3.16.2021 ]:
Harpies have been on Telrunya for a while now. Due to the established villages and towns, and the abundance of resources available in them, some harpies have become more docile.
There is no need to fight for resources. And because of this change, these harpies are less likely to push their 2nd-hatched chick away. Some may even cohabitate.
  • Socialized harpies MUST live in and around villages.
  • The further away from a village they live, the more true to nature they are.
  • Harpies that reside in villages will still protect their territory from outside threats and other aggressive non-resident harpies.
  • Harpies are not 100% like a regular pae. They still have wild instincts, some have just become domesticated and less aggressive.
  • If a male were to enter a village with a peaceful harpy population, it is no holds barred.
  • Female harpy still cannot breed with other females.

    BONUS!
  • We're bringing back transformations! A fully 100% wild harpy has the power to change an angel, demon or shetani into a female harpy. Sorry, no boys allowed!
  • If a player would like to explore this option, it requires a bribe, an available artist, and patience. It has to be RP'd between 2 parties, and this is non-negotiable.
  • Harpy will maul the pae to near death, and then staff will step in to finalize the process.[
  • Mauled pae will lose all of their special edits in the process./list]

Naga Pae'il

________________Second discovered Mythical Pae'il type. Known throughout Pae’il history as Naga inhabiting only storybooks and nightmares.

:[ What are Naga Pae'il? ]:
They are a Mythical type of Feral Pae'il that are half snake, half Pae'il. The first known Naga Pae'il on Telrunya was brought here by Eris, Goddess of Discord. She brought the Naga eggs to Venus as an engagement present, a "peace offering" to replace her treasures from last year that incidentally hatched into Harpies.

    :[ Habitat ]:
    • Naga can live safely under water or on land.
    • They tend to remain grouped in clans, with their home referred to as a nest. There may be several nests in one clan.
    • There is one Emperor and Empress as the leaders for each clan.
    • Males are usually sent out of their nest when they become teenagers. They have the option to challenge the lead male to take over a nest, attempt to find some females to start their own, or live on their own.
    • Males are very territorial - typically 2 males cannot coexist in the same area without fighting and possible blood shed. They welcome all the females who want to come in to their territory. *winkwinknudgenudge*
    • Females are dominant - everything a male does is to impress the females, but scare the other males away.

    :[ Biology ]:
    • They grow slower than a normal Pae'il, having a "tween" or "pre-teen" stage between the child stage and teen stage.
    • Half Pae'il, half snake anatomy
    • They are polyamorous - typically a male will have several females. A female will have her favorite male. Because of the territorial nature of the males, it is rare to find a male+male relationship among them.
    • Babies hatch from eggs, and are immediately mobile. Their fangs are super sharp because they have not had a chance to wear from use. They are very quick once they get their bearings after hatching. They still require mom or dad to hunt their food for them. They will shed their skin only once, right before becoming a child.
    • Children still require food to be hunted and killed for them, and are still rather vulnerable to predators and other clans. They still remain vulnerable, but their senses are becoming sharper. This is the stage where they start testing their boundaries and their dominance level develops. Play-fighting is not uncommon as it serves as a method to learn pain thresholds, and ability limitations. Children will shed their skin once before becoming a pre-teen.
    • Pre-teen is a stage unique to Naga. They grow much slower than any other type of Pae'il due to the unique manner in which they do it (shedding skin), This stage is also puberty for Naga and can be awkward for most. This is the last stage in which males are allowed to stay in the nest unharmed. They start learning how to hunt during this period as most will be on their own soon enough. They will shed their skin once before becoming a teenager.
    • Teens - males not allowed to live near other males, but are allowed to challenge the older males for dominance and territory. They are adequate hunters in this stage because they need to know how to take care of themselves. Males will start to court females during this stage, in attempts to start his own nest. Males will also start to be challenged by other males. The will shed their skin twice before becoming an adult.
    • Adults never stop growing, but they grow very slowly -- the older the Naga the more respect he or she commands. They shed their skin once a year.
    • They are predators and have sharp fangs and retractable claws on their hands. They also have a forked, prehensile tongue, but it is not for smelling.
    • They are not cannibals, and will not eat Pae'il. Harpies are the exception to this. They are carnivores
    • Females can also be called Nagi

    :[ Reproduction ]:
    • They can have up to 5 eggs per breeding cycle, and in colder weather, they are prone to only having one.
    • Offspring can be any color, not necessarily the colors of the parents.
    • Very protective of their eggs
    • Cannot breed with Harpies, because Harpies are for eating, not for breeding.
    • The Empress has the ability to lay multiple eggs in order to populate a nest or clan.
    • If a Naga feels they must breed with any other type of Pae'il *(except Harpy) The offspring are likely to be the same type as the mother, because Naga have not evolved past laying eggs, and Pae'il don't lay eggs anymore.
    • Naga are not typically monogamous but there are exceptions.

    :[ Typical Behavior ]:
These are only guidelines, as they can have any personality the player wants to give them.
    • Clever
    • Harpies are natural enemies of Naga
    • Males will woo females by presenting them with their hunting trophies (momentos from a kill, usually furs, feathers, teeth or bones)
    • Naga LOOOVE gems and jewels and anything that sparkles. It is not uncommon to find a naga wearing as many jewels as they can.
    • Usually malevolent towards other pae, but only if they've been given reason. They are vengeful and tend to hold grudges.

    :[ Unique Abilities & Powers ]:
    • Immunity to poison
    • Fast - fastest landpae on Telrunya (but not in terms of moving over long distances)
    • Quick reflexes
    • Binocular vision - both eyes can focus on a target
    • Stronger than a normal Pae'il (able to carry the weight of a full grown Pae'il with ease). Their tails are extremely strong and they can't only constrict a pae'il, but any large beast.
    • increased olfactory acuity - heightened sense of smell
    • Vibration sensitivity
    • Aquatic Adaptation - they can easily move from the land to the water without the need of gills or breathing aparatus. They can tolerate the temperatures and pressure just like a Naiad.
    • Naga do not possess any magical abilities nor claim any connection to magic, which is atypical of a Pae'il, of any type.
    • They do not get a special, unique power like other Pae'il. They all have the same abilities.

    :[ Weaknesses ]:
    • Cannot shapeshift, they are "locked" into their half-snake form
    • Highly susceptible to Taint
    • Aversion to bright light
    • Weak against offensive magic spells cast on them
    • Easily hypnotized or mind controlled

:[ Factions, Associations & Meta-Plot Information ]:
  • Naga are neutral, and do not belong to any faction, unless they choose one.
  • Naga are associated with the Element of Water. (this will be important later on)
  • If a NAga does decide to join a particular faction, they will be subject to that faction's rules and laws, and likely shunned by their nestmates.

Merfolk Pae'il

________________Third discovered Mythical Pae'il type. Known throughout Pae’il history as Merfolk inhabiting only storybooks and nightmares.

:[ What are Merfolk Pae'il? ]:
They are a Mythical type of Feral Pae'il that are half fish, half Pae'il. The first known Merfolk Pae'il on Telrunya were brought here by Queen Tariel when Alu Spring summoned all forms of naiad sea-life home. Their king, Triton, accompanied by his 7 daughters, are the first merfolk to ever come back to Telrunya.

    :[ Habitat ]:
    • Merfolk can live safely under water as well as on land, but they can only survive on land in their humanoid form. Unlike Naiad, their legs won't dry out once they transform. Until a new source of magic is discovered, the ability to transform requires blessings from King Triton. More will be discovered about that process as they acclimate to the new environment.
    • They tend to remain grouped in schools. It is extremely unlikely to ever find a merfolk out in the wild on their own.
    • Schools have their own kings and queens. While it is a lofty title, it is a little more common within the merfolk culture.
    • They are not territorial.
    • Gender does not play a part in any aspect of their culture. Anything a male can do, a female can do equally.

    :[ Biology ]:
    • They grow at a slower rate than a naiad.
    • Half Pae'il, half fish anatomy
    • Their legs are like a normal pae'il's legs. They are not scaly like a naiads'. They cannot dry out, but they must return to the water with 3 days, or they will permanently become a land pae, unable to survive in the depths of the lake or sea.
    • Babies are live-born.
    • Children are rather vulnerable to predators out in the sea because they are delicious. They also wear bandeau- like wraps over their chest.
    • Teens - Smaller than a normal naiad teenager. This also the stage they start wearing seashell bras.
    • Adults - they are extremely agile and quick swimmers. They are extremely hands-on and protective of their offspring.
    • They are omnivores

    :[ Reproduction ]:
    • They can give birth to maximum 3 per breeding for merfolk couples. Only 2 babies for interspecies breeding.
    • They nurse
    • Able to reproduce with any type of Pae'il except Naga. The baby type is determined by the mother. There are no hybrids.
    • Merfolk are monogamist.

    :[ Typical Behavior ]:
These are only guidelines, as they can have any personality the player wants to give them.
    • Curious
    • Cautious on land
    • Males will woo females by presenting them with pearls or other shiny tinkets. They higher the social standing, the bigger the pearl or better the trinket.
    • They are protective of each other
    • They are peaceful

    :[ Unique Abilities & Powers ]:
    • They can fully transform into a land pae temporarily
    • Musical empathy - they are attracted to music and gain different abilities based on the type of music. They are also naturally adept at playing different musical instruments.
    • Flexible
    • Supernatural beauty
    • Aquatic Adaptation - they can easily move from the land to the water without the need of gills or breathing aparatus. They can tolerate the temperatures and pressure just like a Naiad.
    • Merfolk do not possess any magical abilities but they claim connection to to Water.
    • They do not get a special, unique power like other Pae'il. But they are able to wield magical items.

    :[ Weaknesses ]:
    • Can only stay on land for 3 days before needing to return to the lake or sea.
    • Highly susceptible to Taint
    • Aversion to potent smells
    • Weak taste buds
    • Easily hypnotized or mind controlled, especially by musical abilities

:[ Factions, Associations & Meta-Plot Information ]:
  • They are by default factionless. But if they live in the lake, they swear fealty to the Water.
  • Merfolk are associated with the Element of Water.
  • If a Merfolk does decide to join a different faction, they will be subject to that faction's rules and laws and have to become a permanent land pae. They will not be able to ever return home.

Selkie Pae'il

________________Fourth discovered Mythical Pae'il type. Completely unknown throughout Pae’il history.

:[ What are Selkie Pae'il? ]:
They are a Mythical type of Feral Pae'il that are mostly seal, and sometimes Pae'il. The first known Selkie Pae'il on Telrunya were brought here by Queen Tariel when Alu Spring summoned all forms of naiad sea-life home. They are not naiad, but still received the call. They have never been seen or mentioned even in history books. However, there has been some instances throughout historical texts of seals or mysterious strangers appearing from the sea near light houses.

    :[ Habitat ]:
    • Selkie can live safely under water as well as on land. On land they can keep their seal form or shed their skin to become an attractive pae’il.
    • They tend to remain grouped in colonies. But it is not uncommon for a selkie to venture out alone.
    • Colonies have their own leadership called Alphas. The mate to the alpha is the beta. There is an omega, which is the lowest ranking selkie.
    • While do they have leadership and a hierarchy, selkies are independent and function just fine on their own. They are not beholden to their alpha, but they do turn to the leader for guidance and support.
    • They are not territorial.
    • Females are more dainty in their humanoid form, while males are more masculine.

    :[ Biology ]:
    • Their growth rate is unknown because of how new they are to Pae'il.
    • Full seal anatomy in the water, full humanoid anatomy on land without their fur.
    • Babies are live-born, fully covered in seal fur.
    • Children are fully covered in seal fur and cannot remove it.
    • Teens - Their fur hangs loose, and they are fully able to remove it, but their bodies are very frail.
    • Adults - They can shed their skin easily, and have grown into their strong bodies. Males are muscular but females are not. Females are smaller than the males.
    • They are carnivores, preferring ocean fish

    :[ Reproduction ]:
    • They can give birth to litters, but there are usually only 2 or 3 pups.
    • Able to reproduce with any type of Pae'il except Naga. The baby type is determined by the mother. There are no hybrids.
    • Selkie are not monogamist.

    :[ Typical Behavior ]:
These are only guidelines, as they can have any personality the player wants to give them.
    • Curious
    • Cautious and timid on land
    • Males are attracted to land women, but they still find their own beautiful.
    • They are protective of their offspring
    • They are peaceful
    • In their seal form, they are vicious when hunting.
    • Males are territorial

    :[ Unique Abilities & Powers ]:
    • They can shed their sealskin to reveal a very attractive pae'il.
    • Immune to cold
    • Agile
    • Enhanced abilities to aid in hunting in the water: sharp hearing, vision and hearing.
    • Sharp teeth and a vice-like bite in seal form.
    • Aquatic Adaptation - they can easily move from the land to the water without the need of gills or breathing aparatus.
    • Naturally charming
    • Selkie do not possess any magical abilities
    • They do not get a special, unique power like other Pae'il.
    • Sea affinity: They have a special connection and longing for the sea and don't like being away from the waters for very long. This is an instinct all selkie have and will be required for all characters.
    • They can live in the lake just fine, but they are at their best in the sea around the island.

    :[ Weaknesses ]:
    • If their skin is found and stolen by another pae'il, they are 'owned' by the other pae and bound to their whims.
    • If they find their skin after having lost it, they return to sea immediately. They can only stay on land if another pae possesses their skin.
    • Separation from the sea or lake can cause depression.
    • On land, their senses aren't as acute.
    • Weak-minded on land and easily susceptible to mind manipulation powers.

:[ Factions, Associations & Meta-Plot Information ]:
  • They are by default factionless. But if they live in the lake, they swear fealty to the Water.
  • Selkie are associated with the Element of Ice.
  • ISelkie cannot join land factions due to their limited air time. But if someone of a different faction finds their sealskin, they can be forced to change factions for as long as someone else possesses the fur.
