Lamour Amelia I'm not sure if this was the right sub-forum to post this in and I know I'm REALLY LATE asking this question. xD So I apologize ahead of time if I sound like a complete moron. { Which I probably do. I'm aware. }
Fallout 3.... I haven't bought the game. ( Or a console ) But after watching tidbits of letsplays on youtube I really want to give it a try. Thing is, I live in a fairly 'strict' family when it comes to blood and gore and my parents haven't exactly grasped the fact that I am eighteen and not some five year old who is going to see a violent game and freak out. I look at it this way. I live in their house so I should obey their rules. Including what they think is 'okay' to be playing around them and my sister. I've looked it up a couple of times but haven't really found any useful info about Fallout 3's game options. I know that the first and second had the option to bring down the gore but does the 3rd? And is there a difference between these options on pc and ps3? { oh god I'm such a noobie noob ; - ; }
I understand if this isn't an option. And I'm pretty sure I could probably convince them to allow me to get it anyway...... maybe. But for the sake of making them happy, I just want to know if it's possible. Is there anything else I should be aware of that could possibly get me in trouble with my fam? {Including sexual themes and nudity}
I remember in Fallout 3 that there were sexual themes GALORE and partial nudity --> by that, I mean people dressed very "skankily." I remember encountering a sort of pimp in his little stronghold and he had two scantily clad women living with him and the entire time I was there the background conversation was "OH MR. WHATEVER YOUR FACE IS, CAN I HAVE YOU TO MYSELF TONIGHT?" "OH NO MY DEAR I'M TOO MUCH MAN FOR JUST ONE OF YOU" "I hope he still has some booze somewhere I can't do this sober..."
and I remember there being a quest where you had to hunt down a lady because she owed another man sex or money or something and yeah...
so if your parents are wary of video games and what kind of influence they may or may not have on you, Fallout 3 has plenty more aspects about it that may bother them than just gore
as for your initial question, I'm sorry but I can't remember if there was an option to turn off or down the gore ):
Lamour Amelia skyrim~...... I've been dying to play this game.... forever.... and ever. But I just don't get why on earth it's rated M. I've read the rating label but I haven't seen anything horrendous in the game AT ALL. Can someone please elaborate on what might be in the game that would give it such a rating? I know that there might be sexual content but I need to know exactly what we are talking about here. Because I don't want to buy this {amazing} game and start playing it in front of my family only for some random warrior girl to run across the screen topless or something. { just giving an example } I think I read somewhere that part of it was the fact that some characters were dressed to suggest that they were 'women of the night' so to speak. That doesn't bother me at all. My families limits would probably be around nudity and gore everywhere. Basically, Im asking if this is an okay game to play around my family if they were to walk in my room while I'm playing it. Like I said earlier. I want to respect their wishes, but I also want to have fun. :/
I think of the two, Skyrim may be a LOT more 'tame' than Fallout 3 when it comes to ingame content that may bother your parents; there's certainly SOME revealing clothing and armor and whatever, but nothing I would be super alarmed by (but that's probably because I played as a Kha'jiit and somehow it's more normal to see a scantily clad cat person with their fur rather than someone who only has flesh to show off)
there really isn't gore, or at least people remain in one piece (for the most part) when you kill them; there aren't flying limbs or whatever as far as I can remember
HOWEVER there are exceptions; I wielded a two-handed axe, and I found when I somehow did a fancy combo without meaning to on an enemy, I entered a cinematic in which my character would then chop off their head. Compared to other games that allowed you to do the same (like Ninja Gaiden) it was incredibly.... 'tame' to me, it wasn't something outrageous or ridiculous
other than that, the sexual themes are much more hidden in a way, as in you have to travel to the 'bad parts' of towns to find them so they should be easy to avoid, unlike in Fallout where everyone's like "the world has gone to pieces let's have sex"
I don't remember ever encountering 'women of the night' unless you meant assassins hahahaha and I played a lot of Skyrim, so really between the two games I think you'll be fine with Skyrim
hope this helps!

yum_tea Skip Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. Your parents will have a raging fit the first time they see you get a VATS kill with a laser pistol, or any kill at all with Bloody Mess. They're great games, but they are really gorey and as far as I know there isn't a way to turn down the gore.
Skyrim is less gorey, but your parents might still get a bit queasy when you get certain dynamic kills, particularly with dual-wielding swords or, as already mentioned, when wielding an axe; the werewolf form dynamic kills are rather impressive, as well. Also, some of the Daedric Princes send you on quests where you do some...rather questionable things. As far as the sexual content goes, I haven't really seen any. I suppose that label got put on there because of the potential for same-sex marriage in the game, and some cavemen out there still find that sort of thing objectionable.
There are a ton of games out there that are really fun that don't have any gore at all. Branch out, find new things. Just because something is hyped up, it doesn't mean it's the only thing out there. Might I recommend Journey?
