I'm currently rewriting an idea for a fantasy novel that I've had for a few years now. Here's the basic premise:

15 year-old Alessi's simple, uneventful life is turned upside down when she learns that she is a mage - among the very last in the kingdom of Nemarra. The king, Clarence had outlawed magic and killed every mage in the country when he was betrayed, and he's determined to get rid of Alessi when he finds out about her. Alessi's adoptive father, Alwyn -himself a mage - is determined to get her to Saints' Gate, the once-famous place for magic study that is still thriving in secret. Together with some new allies, they decide to rise up against Clarence and fight for their freedom.

I'm currently on chapter 6, and so far progress is swift! What do you think? Is it sellable? Not that I'm confident about getting it published, but it will sure be good to get some feedback! 3nodding

I'd read it. I love books dealing with mages and rebellion.

Keep it up! And remember, at the end of the day, you're writing for yourself. You've got a story you want to tell, don't let the thought of other opinions stop you from writing. Do it cause you want too, and you enjoy it.

It sounds nice and books about rebellions seem to be doing well these days. I'm also a big fan of magic and all that fantasy stuff as many others also are, so I think this could become something really great. smile

The idea of the main character discovering latent magical abilities really
relates to a lot of people, especially younger readers, because sometimes
people wish they could find something special in themselves.

And yeah, write for yourself! Critiques are great, but in the end the biggest
critic you'll ever have to face is yourself. Your own critic is also the
worst to face, actually. Don't let anything discourage you.
