Lucian sat in his family's garden enjoying some tea while a servant read to him for his "enjoyment". It was a pretty, peaceful scene stretched out before him, but even without the blindfold covering his eyes he wouldn't be able to see it. As he began to tune out his servant's words he recalled his fate, as he often did. It was better than being treated like a child like this. He had been a young boy when he feel gravely ill and even the family's personal doctor was at a loss. Desperate, his father sent messengers across the land, promising a reward to anyone that could cure his son's life. The one to appear first was a sorceress. She could cure him, but warned them all that magic came with a price. Lucian could still recall being scared about that detail but his father agreed for him. Now here was perfectly healthy (he hadn't been sick a day in his life since) but blind as a bat. Apparently that was enough reason for his parents to keep him from leaving. "There are blind beggars wandering the streets this very moment who would do just as well as I outside these walls..." he muttered to himself as he took a sip of his tea.
"Did you say something, Master Lucian?" the servant asked as he looked up from an old copy of The Canterbury Tales, the young man's fourth time reading it.
"It's nothing. I'm going for a walk if you don't mind." he said as he began to stand. The servant was quick to put down the book and replace it with an elegant ivory cane that had been resting against the table, which he handed to his master. Lucian just sighed, groping for the cane for a bit before heading deeper into the garden. Maybe he couldn't see the flowers' beauty, but he had learned to identify each and every one through smell. Just one of many talents he'd learned behind his parents' backs.

{If this is stupid I'll edit.}
Scarlet, on the other hand, just snuck her way back into Lucian's garden after yet another successful 'adventure'. She'd often roam the forests nearby, gathering herbs and sometimes fighting and/or bartering with the lesser monsters she came by. Those she killed, naturally, were cooked and eaten in a delicious meaty pie or stew the very evening they were slain. (Unlike Lucian, Scarlet's family wasn't quite so wealthy that she could afford to be picky about her food. To make matters worse, the scrawny little woman was quite the big eater.) Those she didn't gun down, assuming they were interested in her wares, would be sold various herbs and other alchemical ingredients she happened to come across. It was a decent living, but I get the feeling I'm getting off track.
Anyway, Scarlet just snuck her way back into Lucian's family's garden, hoping to encounter the blind noble and let him live vicariously through her latest 'adventure'. She'd come by often to tell him about her day, or just the world in general, thinking that maybe her stories helped relieve the boredom and wanderlust that plagued him just a little bit. Sometimes she doubted it helped, considering how bitter he was towards his family and serving staff in general, but that didn't seem to stop her any.

Scarlet's visits were about the only thing that kept Lucian sane in his gilded prison. It was always the same old routine for him, the only things different being the books read and the music that was played. But Scarlet always seemed to have some new tale to tell, whether her adventures while hunting or just a scene that happened in town. Anything from the outside world was welcome. As he brought a.....yes, he was fairly certain that was a lilly, up to his nose, his fingers lingered on the silken petals. It was amazing how much one thought about one's life when their days were repetitive and deprived. A faint mist against his cheek told him he'd wandered toward the fountain, the centerpiece of the whole garden. Making his way to the base he took a seat on the edge, leaned back, and just looked up towards the sky, taking in the warm darkness he saw and wondering where the sun was now and if Scarlet would be coming today.

Once Scarlet was certain that no servants were around, for none of them seemed to like her very much and chased her off at every opprotunity, she made her way towards the fountain. Lucian might reccognise the familiar pitter-patter of the soles of Scarlet's boots hurriedly dancing across the stone grounds. Unseen was a broad smile plastered upon her faintly pink lips, a pretty sight that she didn't often share outside of Lucian's company. Her voice was gentle yet filled to the brim with cheer, always sounding like it held barely contained excitement about whatever 'adventure' she happened to experience most recently. "You look like you could just about die of boredom." she lightly teased, gazing at him from underneath her heavy crimson-hued hood.

Lucian's features, or at least those not covered by his blindfold, visibly lit up when he heard Scarlet running towards him. Even if he hadn't learned to identify her particular footsteps, she was the only one to ever run around here, at least come running towards him. "Don't I always?" he replied with a small chuckle as he sat back up, not realizing the end of his braid had taken a dip in the fountain behind him. "You know you can just knock, right? It's just the older servants that don't care much for the heir of a duke mingling with the 'lower class'. I'm sure most of the maids wouldn't bat an eye if you showed up at our doorstep."

"Where's the fun in that? It's more exciting this way." Scarlet glanced towards the large estate in which Lucian lived, her smile falling slightly. She didn't say it, but often times Scarlet felt as if Lucian acted differently whenever he suspected his family or his servants were lurking about. (Even if they didn't dislike her, she had no doubts they wouldn't leave them alone if they knew she was there. They were far too overprotective, at least in Scarlet's eyes they were.) He didn't speak his mind as much, and he seemed less happy. "It's like a secret adventure, all our own. We get to be somewhere else, mentally, without much fear of being dragged back to the boring drudgery that is normal life."

Lucian scoffed a bit at this as he stood up. "I don't know what boring drudgery you're talking about, miss 'kill a bear before dinner'." he said while sticking his tongue out at her. Or at least in her general direction. It really seemed more aimed at the daffodils behind her. "You haven't heard enough of the classics to recite most of them by memory. Any tales of grandeur today?" he asked, wanting to change the subject before he made her feel guilty.

Scarlet was tempted to bring up the things she never mentioned, like chopping down trees in a repetative manner for firewood or how some individuals back home could ever talk about their crops or the speckles on their chickens' eggs. But she didn't, she figured it wasn't worth starting an arguement - as she knew very well that both she and Lucian could be incredibly stubborn. "Yes, I've got one. You ever encountered an imp before?" she asked, doubting that he had. If anything, she only asked to set up the mental stage for her story, so to speak.

"No, but I've heard about them." Lucian was already smiling, excited to hear where this story was going. "Mischievous little buggers, aren't they?" he said while feeling around behind him for the fountain's ledge to sit back down again.

"Mischevious isn't even the half of it. The worst of them, as is true of all demon-tainted folk, can do horrible and unspeakable things." There was a pause after she spoke, if only for dramatic effect. "This one was just an idiot." Afterwards she went on to detail how she kept encountering this one imp, a feisty little bugger that would steal food from her pantry or run by and flip her skirt. All in all, he was irritating but nothing too bad. One day, though, as she was walking through the woods he and a bunch of his friends tried to ambush her. Demons often kidnapped youthful folk, especially virgin maidens or children for some reason, to take back to their firey homeworld. Not willing to find out what exactly they had planned for her, she fought back. The imps were surprisingly fierce opponents, often aiming for her vitals. As he could tell, it's obvious who won. And it was obvious what Scarlet would be having for dinner.

Lucian held up a hand to politely cover his mouth as he laughed, more a dainty habit of his upbringing more than anything. "I can't say I've ever had imp before. You'll have to let me know how it is. Maybe even bring a few samples sometime."

"I've had it a couple times before, but not very often. It's very tough and chewy, but it's extra juicy too. If you cook it in just the right broth, it softens up real nice. It's good, but likely not half as good as the meat you get to eat regularly." She gave a small shrug. "Just eating one imp won't fill a girl up, though. They have surprisingly little meat on their bones."
