I read this was safe haven and i'm hoping to find a friendly ear.

I've been depressed/suicidal for years but never told anyone but my friends whom insist they harder they're hardest but it doesn't help most of the time- and they do try but in the end im' "too smart" because i contradict them in some sense but they never have anything to combat what I say and give up.
Now recently, i was determined to make myself the best I can be... with my fairly new BF ( 2-3months) whom i've known for 5 years and I getting closer I was sure i'd be fine... but then my depression got worse and worse over the following week ( previous week).

One day i was depressed and self-loathing and talking to him when he started misunderstand what I was saying. He broke up with me 2 days ago. Now this didn't bother me so much ( of course it did but by nothing too dramatic) but the fact i had hurt him and i've hurt other in the past and he had promised not to leave like my previous relationship had Plus the previous depression..it was all very crushing.
I was going to over dose but my mom found me.

I was doing sorta okay until this morning when i had a nightmare..
any advice?
( sorry for the paragraph )

Sometimes friends cannot always help. When I was very anxious and a bit depressed, my friends were so busy, I kept sending long emails and I would get no reply and my friends would tell me : Sorry I'm busy, I'll reply later...

I don't want to wait for my friends to help me out. It is not everyone that have the right words or advice...

I did post my issues on Gaia but in the Lifestyle /life issues thread because there are more gaians that look over there.

I personally went for professional help and read books about self-esteem and self-confidence...

Your problem is suffering from depression that lasted for years... So, I suggest to seek professional help. Usually at school, there is one psychologist or counselor that help students and it is free because you are a student.

I have been dealing with depression for a decade now. If you ever need to talk to someone then feel free to send me a PM. I am more than happy to listen, because that's sometimes all you need - someone to care and listen, and that alone makes one feel better.
I've been dealing with it many years alone until a couple years ago I went to a doctor about it. She said she'd be blunt and that there will be no cure as it is all I have ever known. She prescribed me some tablets and after 3 attempts on different ones we found one that works. It makes my life easier as I just don't feel like I care about the little things any more.
It would be best if you went to see a doctor for some medication. Find someone who you can talk to. I prefer contact via internet instead of face-to-face.

I understand the suicidal thoughts due to depression.I used to be like that all self loathing and hurtful to others. One day i woke up and realized i no longer had any friends, and i thought to myself hmm now i wonder why im lonely.Well i was poor all my life and couldnt afford help. The soup for the soul books really helped me see the better parts in life.So i figured if i started to be more optimistic and try to take better care of myself i would get better.I still dont have many friends but i do have a small group of very close friends that talk with me and hang out with me on a regular basis and they actually care about me because i care about myself more now.
