The flyers began popping up shortly after the dramatic defense of Amityville had concluded... for better or worse.

Quote:
SCAVENGING

In these dark times, everyone must do their utmost and use all resources available!! What resources you ask??? They're right under your nose!! Learn how to use what you have and what you didn't know you had and what you could have but can't find yet!!!

Meet at the Junkyard tonight to begin your education!!

Do you dare travel to the Junkyard (located near Moira's office) to learn to use what y... to learn that stuff the flyer is talking about? Do you even know what it's talking about?

Oh, just get going already!!

OOC Information

- This class is for Amityville students only. Sorry, no Hunters-in-golems or Horsemen this round, because...

- Successful completion will result in a learned ability that can only be obtained from certain "classes" of Moira's.

- But you have to participate in every round to earn the ability!

- If you own multiple Amityville students you can play one, two, as many as you think you can handle - no student limit!

The Junkyard, located near Moira's shack on the edges of campus, looks like a snarl of scraps and garbage - though it's definitely not the same as the Amityville Waste Disposal Facility! At least the stuff here isn't organic or rotting. It's clean...ish. Sort of.

Massive gates made of welded scrap metal admit you to the Junkyard, where paths - many marked by Trashbot treads - wind through the piles of discarded items. The sheer quantity of stuff is a little overwhelming.

Fortunately, Moira is standing nearby with a bright smile on her face, looking to help any and all students who show up for her flyer! She beams at everyone who approaches, occasionally bouncing on her heels or giving people two snaggly thumbs-up.

"Okay, spookies!" she proclaims when everyone seems to be gathered. "When, um, stuff has... has happened, and we're not at our best, you have to learn to find whatever stuff you can to help you out! Just because you can't use your FEAR doesn't mean you're helpless - I mean, look at all this!!" She gestures grandly at the scrap piles. "You could fight a war with this stuff! And win!!!"

She seems pretty excited as she tugs what looks like an old skelevision antenna out of a pile and whips it through the air. It looks kind of dangerous when she swings it around like that.

"So, spookies, I want you to do two things: go searching for useful objects - the, um, scientific term is scavenging," Moira explains. "And then pick one of the things you find, and figure out how you can use it as a weapon! The more creative, the better... but you gotta explain it! Don't just say HERE'S A TIRE, IT'S DANGEROUS BECAUSE REASONS. Got it??"

She once again gestures expansively at the Junkyard. "Now go on, spookies! Happy scavenging!!"

OOC Information

So - this is the class! There is no specific sign-up/waiting for the professor to arrive period - just dive right in! The first step is scavenging for objects.

Scavenging Instructions
Once your student is ready to search (you can talk to other students/Moira first if you want to), have them strike out to explore the Junkyard. It's full of scrap machinery, electronics, doom buggies (cars), dead trees, etc. Anything you can think of that would be in a Halloween junkyard... except there is NOTHING that was once alive other than wood. So there's no rot. Rust, yes. Rot, no. It's a Junkyard, not a dump.

To scavenge, roll 5d10 - you can do this all in a single post, or in five separate, or however you want as long as you roll 5d10 and find five objects. Here is the key to what you discover:

1 - You find a coil of electrical wire with a plug on one end. The other end is frayed.

2 - You find an old mop with a string head - like this!

3 - You find a size large t-shirt advertising some long-defunct bruteball team.

4 - You find a misshapen ceramic pot about two feet tall. It's heavy. Maybe it came out of some long-ago Arts & Crafts class?

5 - You find a crumbly lump of dried-out grease. It's a little sticky but it loosens up in your hands like charcoal.

6 - You find a rolling suitcase. The handle is stuck in the fully-extended position.

7 - You find the rearview mirror off a doom buggy.

8 - You find a rubber tire big enough for you to fit through. It smells kind of pungent.

9 - You find what looks like a massive old dish from the Creepateria kitchen. Thankfully it's clean... just scorched.

10 - You find a floor lamp with no shade. The bulb is intact but the cord has been sheared off.

--------------------------------------------------------

So What Do I Do With This?

Once you have scavenged, you must pick ONE ITEM of the ones you found. ONE. You cannot pick two. You cannot combine two. Just pick one.

You must then explain to Moira why and how you would use that specific item to help you in a fight. Your student would be coming up to her and explaining their reasoning and rationale, displaying what if anything they have done to modify the item (see below), and perhaps demonstrating (ON THE EMPTY AIR, no walking up and hitting Moira plz) how their idea would work.

Moira will be judging everyone's finds and reasoning on several qualities, including:

- Creativity. Is it a particularly clever use of the item, one that you wouldn't normally think of right away?

- Plausibility. Is it something that would actually work?

Here are things you CAN do to your item if you wish:

- Break the item further. Note: any breaking must be realistic to your character, i.e. unless you have a 'super-strength' natural ability you're not going to be able to bend or break an iron bar.

- Use the item with an aspect of the environment (i.e. sunlight, dust on the ground, etc.)

- Use the item in combination with a natural ability your character possesses - i.e. if you're a flame demon and you found a tree, and you have the natural ability of always having your butt on fire, you can light the tree with your butt. Sure.

Here are things you CANNOT do:

- Modify the item in any way OTHER than breaking it. You may not add to the item, use ANY other items on the item (even if it's something your character always carries), etc.

- Modify the item with FEAR attacks or work it into a FEAR attack, as FEAR attacks are on lockdown, and anyway the point of this is to be effective without FEAR!

If you're curious if you can or cannot do a particular thing to your item, please ASK ME either in PM or ask Moira a question ICly and quote me in your post. (And of course you can talk to Moira normally as well, just be sure you quote me so I'll see it.)

--------------------------------------------------------

Deadline

Because this finding and then creative thinking/explanation process can take some time, I'm giving you until 6pm PST on Saturday, April 20th. During this time you must scavenge, select your item from the five you find, and figure out how you would use the item in a battle situation - then present that explanation to Moira. You may also RP with your classmates, of course!

After this first phase ends, the second part of the class will start. Again remember that to earn the natural ability you must participate in EVERY PART OF THE CLASS!

Have fun!

Me rope clutched the flyer as he picked his way carefully through the junkyard towards Moira's shack, his eyes aglow with interest. The concept of scavenging wasn't new to him. It was a dangerous task he was made to do, save for his type of scavenging involved acquiring the parts of still-moving sea creatures and not being destroyed in the process. The very idea of searching for junk and turning it into something useful intrigued him.

It looked like he was the first one here. Merope gave the professor a I-don't-know-what-I'm-doing look before he tentatively edged over to the newest pile and began to pick through the reminants.

Andrew wasn’t entirely sure if savaging really would produce that many weapons but it sounded fun. He could always use more tools to fight with, and that was why his mother paid for this school. He might as well make use of it.

Besides, maybe he could find other useful things in that junk heap. After listening to the directions he roamed off to find some stuff.

The first thing he found was a big and heavy pot. He thought about breaking it but it looked a little large for him to manage that. Being small sucked sometimes.

Uru was walking about the campus, continuously remembering the locations of the landmarks around the area and seeing the damage that was done from the recent attack on the campus. Riku had remained back at the room, so he was only accompanied by Fraustus and BĂĽnmundy that day. With hands in his pocket, he made his rounds to the outskirts of the campus where he had heard an authority figure resided and it was also where the junk around campus went. Could prove useful for his other projects. The hellhound came to the outskirts as he had heard rumored and, without a doubt, an authority figure was already instructing students who were already there to scavenge from the scraps. Scavenging was something he was alright with, he did it sometimes to build things like Fraustus' old bed before he had decided to shred it.

The authority figure was instructing students to find objects to assist them in the coming month or so since their abilities are... well, not very strong at the moment. Since the attack, he wasn't able to produce any more than a spark. If his family had seen this, they would have surely laughed and shamed him. A Cocytus hellhound unable to produce their family flame... This scavenge would give them some sort of weapon to use in the mean time. Uru was an efficient fighter with schools in boxing and a form of combat that required a gi. Unlike the rest of his family who were utter wimps, he did learn a thing or two from his father's side even if he was his mother's child. Uru placed his hand before the Soul Crusher's face giving it the command to stay, resulting in the waist-high creature to lower to its haunches before laying down, watching its master with icy orbs as he descended to the scrapyard below.

The first item he came across was a long pole with a bulb at the end. The wires inside indicated it was a light bulb and the long rod would be a good assumption that it was some sort of light pole of sorts. With a hand, he tugged it free with some resistance due to a circular, flat base pulling some debris with it. He was not a weapon user, nor did he have any training with it. But he would imagine it could sustain some good damage with it's circular base or with the bulb end. However, with examination; the bulb would break and leave an exposed filament, but with a sheared wire, it was ineffective beyond stabbing. Though, that wouldn't last long. The base was a good end to use, that was for certain, it was the shaft of the object that concerned him. He held it under one arm and used the other to support it before swinging it around as he had seen another student do so before. It moved with a very heavy end, but left much of the shaft vulnerable to attacks. Distance was great and all, but the shaft could bend or break leaving it useless. Uru put it back before moving on.

The next item wasn't found by him but the motion of the companion that he was with. The little lapine had stuck it's head out for some air before making a noise in a direction. A glance over his shoulder fell upon a lump of some sort. Upon closer inspection, he held it. It was a lump of some sort that had some texture of charcoal. It might have some uses to it, but not one that he could see in the long haul. Uru put it back before moving on.

Next was a wire that was tangled up in some debris. Removing it was a task in itself and, once freed, the demon noted that one end was frayed off. Perhaps ripped during the removal. He looked at it for some time and contemplated it's uses; it could be used as a whip, it could be used as a stranglehold, it could used as a tripwire, it could be used to tie something up to allow one, such as himself, to go to town onto some poor sucker's face. The possibilities with this one didn't just limit itself to one use and he hadn't really put much thought of expanding the idea further. Though he was a brute fighter, he could be a strategist if necessary and if time allowed it. Wrapping the wire around his thick forearm, he moved to see what else he could find.

Turning the corner, he came across a large ceramic object. Placing a hand upon it told him it was clay, based on the texture if the look wasn't enough. Why was it so tall? Who could have made it? He knocked it a few times to test it's thickness and it proved to be hallow on the inside. With little effort, he tried moving it only to see that it was quite heavy. Moving it would be an inefficient in combat. Hardly a weapon. Uru left it before moving on.

The last thing that came across his attention was a white cloth that stuck out from some debris. Curious, the hellhound pulled it free (with some tears) and saw that it was a shirt. "Bruteball" was the only word he could make out as the rest was covered in black ichor and dirt, not to mention the rips, that it was... certainly inefficient, even to wear. Uru put it back before moving on.

He had suppose that was enough, he couldn't seem to find much useful materials around that the other students hadn't already. With the wire in hand, he suppose it was the best object to display to the authority figure.

Meixiang just couldn't resist this class. Not if Moira was running it of course. She certainly enjoyed any time she could get with the Undead janitor. Although the junkyard brought back memories of being wet and smelly from her exam.

But still. This was Moira.

The Jiang Shi practically skipped from the dorms to Moira's junkyard. Who could pass up learning to use resources too though. Mei certainly needed something to help her out. Physically she lacked to a point. She could get off a few good punches and kicks from what Moira had taught her one on one in the past Even still, it would be nice to being able to use something other than physical attacks. So perhaps this would help her out. The ghoul could only hope.

Of course Moira didn't mess around.

She shot Moira a small smile as she spoke. Listening closely to what they were being instructed to do. "Ooooooo..." The ghoul was excited for sure. There were many things strewn about the junkyard for one to find she was sure of that. And being able to figure out how to use things as weapons was a plus too.

When she was finished speaking, Mei gave a small salute off her temple before scurrying off into the junkyard to begin rummaging. It was almost like digging through the clearance bins at the maul. Except it wasn't clothes.

After striking out into the junkyard it didn't take Mei very long to begin digging in the piles of stuff. She found some note worthy things but nothing that really shone to her. Nothing that stood out as something that would peak her interest into turning into some kind of weapon.

Or perhaps she just wasn't using her imagination well enough.

Finally, she just decided to go with the next thing she grabbed. Which turned out to be an old mop with a stringy head. The ghoul shook it around a couple of times. Looking at it from different angles. Trying to see something more beyond the surface of the mop's current form.

Ponder ponder ponder...

With how things tended to go around the school, the reaper boy felt that he should attend it. You never knew when something you learned would come in handy, and this scavenging thing sounded incredibly useful. Even if it did take place in the junkyard.

Myr glanced around briefly before starting to look for things that might work as improvised weapon. He found several, including a coil of electrical wire, an old dish, and a floor lamp. He felt that he could work with these, and he pondered which one of these would be the best.

The wire had potential,as a bit of a flail weapon, and the lamp could possibly work as a spear, but it was the dish that really caught his attention. It could be used in several different ways, both offensively and defensively, and he could think of several times something like this could be useful. Now he just had to figure out the best way to present it.

Frost wasn't by nature, a scavenger. He was a hunter. Hunting for scraps? No, he was a more a fresh kill kind of guy. Out of his element, he picked a few items he found, not quite sure how things were supposed to go. How could one of these items help in a fight? Well, he wasn't a master at pole arms, and unless there was a wet t-shirt contest fight he didn't see how that would- well actually, he could. But that way was a bit...cruel.

After all choking your opponent was not the most honorable tactic. The suitcase- well bludgeoning was always good. Red eyes flicked to the last item as he felt his lip twitching. That might work.

The very large hellhound moved with contemplated steps as he stared at his right arm, wrapped in a black cord, tied at the wrist with the plug end. The authority figure would probably want to hear about his find, she had mentioned something about explaining it and he certainly had some ideas about it. He had rounded a corner or two before finding the little female in question. Her scent was certainly that of an undead, though her appearance appeared like a dirty person. If it weren't for her scent, he would imagine her alive. His black tail flicked behind him as ears and self stood straight up in her presence.

"Professor." he started, his baritone voice deep, a bit amplified by rebounding off of the scarf that loosely covered his neck and mouth. His bi-covered eyes looked down to her before presenting his forearm with the electrical wire wrapped around it. The wire was long, about six or so feet long with one end frayed to exposed wires and it looked like the hellhound-wolf had stuck a black bee-hive onto his arm. He turned to a pile of junk that bordered the area as he patted the bulk of the plastic tubing. "Good defense."

Without speaking, he unwound some of it so that the flayed end touched the ground as if he was undoing the bandages that also called his forearm home. Taking his boxing position, bringing both fists up to his head as a defensive pose, he let out a forceful strike with sent the wire tip forward before the first jerked back to its original position which caused the sudden jerk of the wire back causing a cracking sound before sliding along the ground on the return. Next he gave a right hook and the same return to his defensive position causing the wire to round about and whipping again when jerked back. "Whip. Good distance. Flayed end could do good damage too. If necessary, may be able to grab if it hooks properly."

Walking to the junk pile, he knelt down, tying the fray end to the bottom of something before backing away slowly. As he did so, he unwound more of the wire and buried what was on the ground with some dirt. As he was a good distance away, he stood up looking along the now-buried line of wire. The only evidence that showed that it was there was that it was still attached to his arm. With a good pull, the wire jumped to life into a straight line from the junk pile and his arm. With a tug, the wire snapped from the object it was tied to. "Can hide this. Use as a trip wire or a trap. I've used something like this when I go hunting. Could hide under leaves." The demon wound the cable up again, holding the frayed end in one hand and using the other to peel away the plastic exposing the wires inside. "We could use these to set up more than one. If necessary, could weave a net... but it would use up too much time and effort and the number of use is severely diminished." Uru examined it further now that he thought about it. "I prefer immediate use and the more uses the better."

He turned back to the professor, taking the end of the rope in one hand and gripped ti with the other. Pulling in opposite directions, the wire vibrated with a thrung sound before settling quickly. His forearms and biceps flexed hard at the action and his gaze pierced at the object. It was certainly strong and sturdy, it's use was formidable and potentially devastating. "A good tie would be difficult to break. Should suffice enough time for me to use my fists, but, if you would prefer, could tie something up to incapacitate until further instructions." Then again, if they had used it on the shadowlings, their intangibility would have resulted in uselessness. Now that he thought about it, the other use was not one he was particularly fond of, and the act of doing it seemed under him. Honorless. Underhanded. Evil. Dark. It was too much of what the family would have done if it got them ahead. It was not something he would have done. So, he left it as that.

Uru bowed to Professor Moira as a end to his presentation.

Millie felt tired and a bit depressed from the whole ordeal the school just went through.

Her room was still a shambled mess, and helping out anywhere but there was a welcome distraction.
Listening to Moira's instructions gave her a little hope, so she went about looking for things that might help.

They wouldn't be Esu though. Was the nagging thought running through her head.

The first thing she found was an old mop head. Swinging it around like a polearm, it flew out of her hands easily and landed a few feet away.

Walking over to up the mop, Millie looked at it with irritation. It was far too light to be a weapon.

Enchanting the mop's strings with a fire enchantment and thrusting the other side into a flat piece of ground, at least it made an impressive light source. Smiling at her handiwork, her makeshift torch lifted her spirits with its warmth and brightness.

A few bits she found like a large pot didn't seem very useful.

A heavy and slightly scorched dish might be useful as a defensive tool, but it also seemed like it could be broken easily given enough stress.

Searching more among the heap, Millie found a very large tire. One she could fit into. It would make for a very handy getaway, but Millie didn't think running away was the best answer.

Further looking made Millie trip over a discarded floor lamp. Rubbing her knees from falling, Millie got a good look at the lamp. Given some alterations, this lamp might make a very useful polearm. Pulling the lampshade off and crushing the top of it, Millie tied the smaller end of the lampshade off with the string pull tie. Filling the lampshade with dirt and rocks, she managed to fasten the lampshade to the top as a counter weight to the heavy base.

While she wouldn't be able to twirl it around easily, at least now it was heavy and somewhat balanced enough to be a makeshift polearm that would no doubt hurt if Millie were to hit someone with it.

Enzo trudged warily through the junkyard. He'd never been to one of Moira's 'classes', but a trip to the junkyard sounded interesting enough. Maybe he'd be able to pocket some scrap to pawn for a few extra seeds.

So long as this little trip didn't end in another detention, it was all fine and dandy.

Whistling casually, he began his scavenging, pondering his options as he went. Lifting up an old tire, only revealed a barrage of rats that had been hiding out, and a sticky ball of Grease proved to be rather useless without a pack of matches, but apparently a good roach snack, (He tossed it.) Hefting up a large, scorched dish, he considered it for a moment, flipping it between his hands.

He experimentally threw it like a frisbee.

The thing shattered, useless. Whatever, he kept looking.

He nabbed a lamp with no shade, wondering how on earth the cord could be so chewed, but the bulb still intact. He smashed said bulb, and gave the make-shift, broken glass lined end an experimental thrust.

"HAH!" He gave that tire a good slash. "A good possibility," He mused, but set it aside.

Finally, he came across a length of cord, possibly whatever had been severed from the lamp. Hmmm... He crouched down and began to work.

This was one of those trips Rosy was instantly regretting as she listen to what needed to be done. Okay, so find items among all this junk, and figure out how she can use it in battle? She couldn't help but feel a little grossed out, as she was slightly scared to know what she would come across in her search. The only good thing, she didn't have to worry too much, due to her own abilities. It was the very thought, that was just making her gag.

With a small sigh, she turns away from the rest of the class as she looks around. Her red eyes focused, as she chews on her bottom lip for a brief moment. What can she use? She wasn't good at this sort of stuff as she didn't really need it.

Carefully floating over a couple of items, she pauses as she comes across a pot and a mop by each other. Bending down, she picks them both up for a moment to look them over. She could use these both in battle now that she thought about it. The pot, she could shatter over a person head, then use the shards and throw them like weapons. The mop, if she broke it in the right area, it could be used as a weapon. Hitting, and stabbing type weapon. With a shrug, she holds onto both for now as she kept going. Only needed three more items, then she could choose between them.

She kept floating, careful not to bump into anyone or anything. Her eyes scanning the area for a moment, before shaking her head. She had this strange feeling, but she forced it away for now. She let it up to the fact this was the first time, she was out with neither her brother or Spinar. So it felt odd being alone in this all.

And then she felt her foot kick something hard. Blinking, she looks down, really glad to see it wasn't a student but an old rolling suitcase. Well this could be useful, as she could use in in battle but also use it to protect herself.

Grabbing the handle, she continues on with it in toll, her eyes spotting something gleaming not to far away from her. She couldn't help being drawn to it, as it was rather shiny for a moment. That was until she finally got to it, and frowns as it wasn't anything special. Just an old dish from the Creepateria with what looks like grease on it. Picking it up, she blinks as she found herself surprised that the grease was still sticky.

Picking it up, she drops the the massive plate down as she looks over the lump. As she rolls it in her hand, it starts to crumble, which made her blink a few times. This could be rather useful in battle if used properly. Blinding a person came to mind almost instantly. Looking back down at the other item, she looks it over for a moment, as it was rather big. It could be the perfect shield, and even used as a weapon in battle.

Sitting down, she maul over her choices of what she found. Which could be the most useful to her in battle?

2 - You find an old mop with a string head - like this!
9 - You find what looks like a massive old dish from the Creepateria kitchen. Thankfully it's clean... just scorched.

The name Moira seemed oh so familiar to the young ghoul as she followed the instruction to the junk yard from yet another very helpful flyer. She couldn't place it, but when she saw the first word 'field' it didn't really matter, slipping her mind and heading her out the day of the class.

So, they weren't really going anywhere like the few other times. But when the wight saw the massive collection of wares just littering the ground, her eyes grew wide with awe and wonder. It was like a hoarders collector's dream come true. They were being allowed to scavenge in this junkyard paradise, and blahblahblah find a weapon out of all of it.

Though, delayed from the go ahead - distracted from STARING - she got to work. And was also very amused with those she saw and knew and knew of (hey to you Uru and Andrew and Millie and Rosy, that one boil looked familiar...). But she got herself to work, nearly diving into the piles of junk.

The first thing she found, or maybe it with her, was a really large tire. Easy to fit through, well of course giving how petite she was and obviously so as she was kind of in it. Not stuck, just.. in it.

Olivia's amazing growing collection

8 - You find a rubber tire big enough for you to fit through. It smells kind of pungent.
