Chapter 1
Introduction

Following my previous book, Intermediate Transfiguration, this textbook will continue on to dictate the spells and pronunciation every student should familiarize themselves with. The path to being a Master Transfigurist is a perilously long and dangerous one, but it is riddled with marvelous possibilities. As always, we will review. Transfiguration alters an object or target into another form by changing the molecular structure, either right down to the molecules, or, by simply altering the definition of bone or organ structure. To do this, one of the four categories of Transfiguration must be invoked, whether it is Transformation, Conjuration, Vanishment, or Untransfiguration.

By now, you should all be familiarized with the different categories, if not, feel free to reference back to A Beginners Guide to Transfiguration, or, Intermediate Transfiguration. Transfiguration, in general, is a difficult discipline to master. It is systematic and very exact; one mispronounciation or wrong move and the Transfiguration can go horribly wrong. There is little to no margin of error allowed in Transfiguration. So, there are a few things to keep in mind when attempting to transfigurate something. First, there is the intended transformation (t). It is directly influenced by bodyweight (a), viciousness (v), wand power (w), concentration (c) and spell incantation (Z), as described in the formula drawn below:

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

If anyone of these factors are off, the Transfiguration will fail.

The levels of each variable are as follows:
t= end result. Most Transfiguration spell difficulties range from basic, somewhat basic, intermediate, somewhat difficult, difficult, expert
a= caster must be heavier than the object being transformed
v= mild, medium-mild, medium, medium-strong, strong, extreme
w= any, medium, strong
c= fair, moderate, complete
Z= well-spoken, perfectly-spoken - and - as clear as possible, completely clear

The limitations of Transfiguration are myriad, but are separated by Nature and Law. Nature Limitations are limitations that attempt to keep Transfiguration from defying nature or the rules of nature. For example, one cannot revive the dead (no matter how recently deceased) with Transfiguration, the object's size and mass must be taken into account (the larger the object, the more difficult to transfigure), an animagus form is limited to one animal form, one cannot conjure food, and, by will of nature, things that are conjured do not last. Law Limitations are limitations set down by the Ministry of Magic or other form of Wizarding Government to keep the over-use and empowerment of Transfiguration to a minimum through surveillance. This includes registration of animagi to Ministry of Magic, being watched by a Transfigurist while learning to become an animagus, and other laws beyond the scope of this book.

The dangers of Transfiguration can be mild to severe, meaning, you might accidentally only half-Transfigure something or cause it to be permanently stuck in that state. This is why it is important to focus while in Transfiguration, or disastrous effects may be the outcome.

Chapter 2
Evanesco A.K.A. Vanishing Spell

To begin, this chapter will closely analyze the Transfiguration branch, Vanishment, and it's spell, evanesco. To vanish an object is to have it simply disappear from existance, or otherwise, into nonbeing. It's more complex than its counterpart, Conjuration, due to the simplicity of harnessing the power around you to create magic out of thin air compared to completely eradicating an object or creature from this plane through the use of magic. To create is a basic human conception, it's in everyone to want to create, which is why children often perform conjuration spells during underage use of magic.

The word comes from evanescence, meaning to be fleeting or disappear, and is derived from the Latin, evanesco, which also means "disappear." It is the only cantation that is neccesary to vanish an object and the pronunciation for the incantion is ev-an-ES-koh.

Research is still heavily pursued for this branch of magic, but it's unclear where these items disappear to or exactly what may happen to a creature wnen it is vanished; it's a theory heavily researched by advanced Transfigurists and the Department of Mysteries. However, it is possible to retrieve objects from vanishment through the use of a conjuring spell or locating spell such as accio. However, the magical theory necessary for preforming the spell is that of ever molecule and piece and particle of the object being turned to nothingness at the same time. That is crucial, if only a part of the object is being focused on, then only part, or none, of it will Vanish and all that will be left is a mess.

The spell itself does not create any sound or light, it strictly causes objects, creatures (though more difficult), to vanish into nonbeing.

The level of this spell is moderately difficult.

t= Vanishment of objects or creatures
a= caster must be heavier than object being vanished
v= must be strong
w= strong
c= complete
Z= well-spoken, as clear as possible

Chapter 3
Noctuam Opera omnia A.K.A Owl to Opera Glasses

This chapter will reflect closely on the transfiguration spell, Noctuam Opera omnia, or better known as Owl to Opera Glasses.

The word is derived from Latin, Noctuam meaning owl, and opera omnia which translates to opera glasses. The incantation is pronounced noc-TO-wam op-era om-knee-ah.

Looking back at our categories reviewed in Chapter 1, this spell falls under the Transformation branch of Transfiguration. It is used solely to transform an owl into a pair of opera glasses.

This spell emits a bare, fleeting wisp of white vapor from your wand as you gently point your wand to the owl, but no sound is created.

The level of this transfiguration is intermediate.

t= Transformation of an owl into opera glasses
a= caster must be heavier than the owl being transformed
v= at least medium-strong
w= strong
c= moderate
Z= well-spoken, completely clear

Chapter 4
Basic Self Transfiguration

Human transfiguration is a smaller sub-branch within Transfiguration where one may alter or transfigure body parts to resemble that of another creature or even an entire human being into a completely different form. It is a complex and dynamic form of Transfiguration, much more difficult than Cross-Species Transfiguration, and should not be taken lightly whatsoever. Disastrous effects may be the outcome.

Human transfiguration can essentially be used to recreate the natural abilities of a Metamorphagi, allowing the witch or wizard to transverse their appearance, such as hair or eye color, or taking on individual animal body parts. This transfiguration requires extensive practice and research, whereas a Metemorhagus may choose to practice this ability at will and with much more ease and without the use of a wand. And while it is possible to transfigure a human into an inanimate object, it is unclear how the effects may be reversed without the supervision of another witch or wizard.

The reason human, or self transfiguration is so difficult is because it does not require the use of an incantation, however, a wand is indefinitely required. This is one of the few branches of magic that does require a wand regardless of the witch or wizard in question. Throughout history, it's been speculated that certain wand woods are better adapted for human transfiguration whereas others simply don't, this, however, has never been proven.

Chapter 5
Human or Animal
Animalis Verto

This chapter will review the transfiguration spell needed to successfully accomplish a human or animal transfiguration. This spell is critically dangerous, and should always require supervision when practicing such spells. The spell, Animalis Verto is a versatile spell much like the spell, evanesco, in the sense that only one spell is required for the entire branch of conjuration, and in this case, human and animal transfiguration. The spell requires utmost concentration, and any amount of stress or distraction can hinder the spells completion and can end with disastrous effects.

The words are derived from Latin, animalis meaning “having breath”, and verto which, as you should already know, means “to turn” or “I change”. The incantation is pronounced an-uh-mey-lee-uhs VAIR-toh.

Referencing back to our categories in Chapter 1, this spell solely falls under the transformation branch of transfiguration. This spell can accomplish a broad range of effects dependent upon the caster. This is where the transfiguration branches Switching, Cross Species Switching, and human transfiguration are most often dealt with. With this spell, the caster may alter their own body parts to match that of an animals’, or an entire human being into another form. Human Transfiguration can be used to essentially replicate the natural abilities of Metamorphmagi, allowing the practitioner or the subject to take on an entirely different form or make various individual changes to their appearance, such as growing or changing the color of one's hair or taking on individual animal body parts. Although it is possible to transfigure humans into inanimate objects, it is unknown how someone who had himself transfigured into an object would be able to untransfigure without the intervention of another witch or wizard.

The level of this transfiguration ranges from somewhat difficult to expert

t= Transformation of oneself or another human or animal
a= caster/victim must be heavier than the transformation
v= extreme
w= strong
c= complete
Z= perfectly spoken, completely clear

Chapter 6
Conclusion

My dear readers, I do hope that I've aided you well on your journey through transfigurations, but, by no means, does it end here. There is a world waiting to be discovered, and I implore you to pursue your dreams, be it new explorations and discoveries in the magical art of Transfiguration, or anything else you may set forth to accomplish. The knowledge is in this book and the world is in your hands; the hands of the youth.

Use it wisely.
