Mengyao Miao was reminded, not for the first time, how much he truly disliked Amityville and all of its students and surroundings.
For one thing, the classes were abysmally dull and pointless. They seemed to focus on things that were hardly applicable, nor were they particularly useful or even interesting. And it had taken Mengyao a while to understand that he had little choice in the matter when it came to acting as though he were a citizen of Halloween Town, despite Mengyao's very verbal and outraged protests because damn it, Medea, how could you let your own kind fall so low and not even be here alongside them? It baffled him that the priestess had not taken responsibilities for her own actions, but more to the point, it angered him.
But he would rise above such anger. He would move forward with his chin held high because that was what he had been raised to do - be a proud, noble Horseman of Conquest.
...a proud, noble Horseman of Conquest forced to mingle with those of Halloween Town and Amityville.
Why was life so difficult.
He could have blamed it on his ancestors, a few of which had somewhat less than pleasant histories, but it made more sense (and it was far easier) to blame someone else, and that someone else just happened to be the priestess Medea herself.
Besides, she was the one who had started everything in the first place.
Invictus's class was one of the only ones which Mengyao felt even a tiny bit comfortable participating in, but even then he was gritting his teeth in irritation as he listened to the instructions.
And he had to go into the forest. How wonderful.
Not.
At least he managed to find something within the first few moments of entering. Mengyao made a soft noise of disgust mingled with satisfaction and leaned over, carefully extracting the object and tucking it away safely in his robes.

He was over six feet tall, which meant one thing - it was more than a little difficult to be stealthy during such an exercise. Granted, Mengyao was dressed in less clothing and layers than he normally was, but it still was difficult to move in utter silence. He slipped through the bushes, found another trinket, and pushed it out of sight before he could be spotted.

Tall meant difficult. Mengyao moved a little too quickly this time, but thankfully his mistake was not noticed by anyone around.

The woods were cramped and dense and difficult to move around in. Mengyao could feel his irritation rising as he attempted to keep himself silent, his lips pressed together in a thin line. He found another trinket, however, and carefully slipped it away into his robes for safekeeping.

Sneaking around was most definitely not Mengyao's forte, but he managed to find another trinket anyway without being noticed (maybe he was doing better than he thought he was).

He tripped over a root, caught himself, and straightened, scowling furiously.

He was getting his robes all dirty. And now there was something following him noisily.

Now there were two somethings following him. Mengyao glowered at them, trying to duck away from their little lanterns and their noise, but to no avail. They merely blinked pleasantly up at him and kept following.
