A player choosing to defend gains a Plus 1 to their AC for a simple defensive stance. This would be the player deflecting the oncoming spell or simply moving out of the way. If a player knows defensive spells they can cast them for additional bonus to AC.
Defensive Third Year Spells Confundus – the confusion charm, adds a plus 1 to AC (basically confusing the attacking player’s aim, have to add some manner of lower end defense spell before the shield charm or there would be almost nothing) Flipendo Incantato – Backfire spell, adds plus 2 to AC
Fourth Year Spells Protego – Shield charm, adds plus 3 to AC Flamma frigus – flame freezing charm, adds plus 5 AC against fire related spells
Fifth Year Spells Deflexo Cantatrix – deflect hex spell, adds plus 4 to AC
Sixth Year Spells Finite Incantatem – ends a spell being cast, adds plus 5 to AC Salvio Hexia – area hex defense, adds plus 6 the AC
Seventh Year Spells Protego Totalum – area shield charm, adds plus 7 the AC
Tactical Spells Petrificus Totalus - Causes the next opponent to not be able to defend on the next offensive spell fired at them. Expelliarmus - Causes the opponent to be unable to perform their next attack.
Spells forbidden in competitive school dueling
The three unforgivables Incendio (as the only target would be the opposing player’s cloths) Transfiguration spells (It is too dangerous for students to be attempting against each other) Diffindo (This can be a deadly spell if used correctly or incorrectly) Reducto (same as Diffindo) Confringo (like Diffindo and Reducto) Sectumsempra (yeah…we all know why here right?) Fiendfyre (this one is obvious too right?)
As an additional note, all other fire related spells are restricted until Fourth Year where the Flame Freezing charm is learned.

Welcome guys and gals and members of all ages to the first round of Open Beta testing for the brand new Dueling system. This system once fully finished, fleshed out, and favorable for all magic flinging folks will be the official dueling system for tournament style dueling and all other official dueling events. This system is only for official practice or ranked style dueling matches hosted by the Dueling Club, the Hogwarts Staff along side the Dueling Club, or by the Ministry of Magic for any special events. That means those big bad boogie men you see going bump in the night trying to blast you to bits are not going to be using the system.
Everyone enjoying the alliteration so far...good
What does this test mean for you? Quiet simple my wide eyed wand waving witches and wizards. You will be helping test this new system to make sure it is ready for such a great ordeal. To start us out I need ten brave young lads and laces willing to show of one of their many characters dueling skills. All grades are allowed, all houses are allowed, and all levels of crazy are allowed to help mix things up.
Why ten? Glad you asked.
Ten will give us five great duels to test the system out with. If the aroma of battle is too great for people to bare and I get an overwhelming amount of volunteers then I will happily extend the size of the roster to suit. However the extras must be in even numbers so if I get an additional five little spell shooters then one of those five will need to go find a suitable target dum...I mean opponent.
Once time has gone buy or all the duels have finished and all participants feel like they have blasted until the can blast no more. Then I will close to duels down for a time, put up a poll, ask some questions and send out a few PMs to those who helped out. These will all be about your experience with the system, what you thought, things you liked, things you think could use some changing, things you don't want changed, and an overall rating of how awesome you think it is.
So step right up and sign up for the first round of tests and help get this system up and running even faster.
