It's Time To Duel!

These are the rules of Dueling! Two opponents, each participants will face their opponent on the designated starting line within the dueling ring. Once the signal to begin has been given the two duelist trade spells until only one is capable of continuing the match or one throws in the towel. This is a match of honor and integrity and will not be soiled with any attempts to kill ones opponent, you will show restraint and proper respect at all times or be disqualified from the match.

AC = 10
Each year adds a plus 1 to a players AC score. (Meaning a first year will get 10 AC to start, a 2nd year 11 AC.)

Being a member of the Dueling Club adds a plus 1 to AC

For every two classes of wandless magic practices add plus 1 to AC (as wandless magic is only good for combative situations and is taught to those who wish to pursue a more duel heavy life style)

A player who has received an E in their DADA O.W.L. adds plus 1 to AC, anyone who received an O adds plus 2 to AC. (OWL is really the only one that would play a part for Hogwarts I feel, NEWT would only effect things outside school.)

A player roles a D20 to find out if they hit the opponent. The player hits if their role goes over the player’s final AC score, a tie is always a win for the player being attacked, If the player hits then they make a follow up post and roll a (insert damage number dice here) to show how much damage is dealt.

HP
A first year students starts with a basic HP of 20, and goes up 10 points for each successive year.

Hit modifiers
Plus 1 for every two years in school

Plus 1 for being a member of the Dueling Club

Plus 1 for every year of Wandless Magic Practice classes (being a more aggressive mindset set of lessons there is a greater bonus to offense then defense here)

Plus 1 for E in DADA O.W.L.
Plus 2 for O in DADA O.W.L.

On a player’s turn they can choose to…
1. Attack
2. Defend and Attack
3. Heal
A player may only choose to heal if they have gone passed the year for learning the basic healing spell Episky.

Spells
Please visit The Spells Guide Thread for details on each spell

Offensive
First Year Spells use 1 D4 dice for damage
Avis
Creo Igniculus
Creobulla
Flipendo
Locomotor Mortis

Second Year Spells use 1 D6 dice for damage
Aurumflamma
Rictusempra
Tarantallegra
Arion Vomito
Vox Dementis
Formicatio Rubens

Third Year Spells use 2 D4 dice for damage
Confundus
Contristosempra
Somnium Tantillus
Lustro Circulus
Waddiwasi
Bat-Bogey hex

Fourth Year Spells use 2 D8 dice for damage
Depulso
Furnunculus
Densaugeo
Jelly-legs jinx
Obscuro

Fifth Year Spells use 2 D10 dice for damage
Stupefy
Caecus
Hurling Hex
Offendo
Stinging hex
Cutis Squameus

Sixth Year Spells use 2 D12 dice for damage
Confundo
Incarcerous
Deprimo

A player choosing to defend gains a Plus 1 to their AC for a simple defensive stance. This would be the player deflecting the oncoming spell or simply moving out of the way. If a player knows defensive spells they can cast them for additional bonus to AC.

Defensive
Third Year Spells
Confundus – the confusion charm, adds a plus 1 to AC (basically confusing the attacking player’s aim, have to add some manner of lower end defense spell before the shield charm or there would be almost nothing)
Flipendo Incantato – Backfire spell, adds plus 2 to AC

Fourth Year Spells
Protego – Shield charm, adds plus 3 to AC
Flamma frigus – flame freezing charm, adds plus 5 AC against fire related spells

Fifth Year Spells
Deflexo Cantatrix – deflect hex spell, adds plus 4 to AC

Sixth Year Spells
Finite Incantatem – ends a spell being cast, adds plus 5 to AC
Salvio Hexia – area hex defense, adds plus 6 the AC

Seventh Year Spells
Protego Totalum – area shield charm, adds plus 7 the AC

Tactical Spells
Petrificus Totalus - Causes the next opponent to not be able to defend on the next offensive spell fired at them.
Expelliarmus - Causes the opponent to be unable to perform their next attack.

Spells forbidden in competitive school dueling

The three unforgivables
Incendio (as the only target would be the opposing player’s cloths)
Transfiguration spells (It is too dangerous for students to be attempting against each other)
Diffindo (This can be a deadly spell if used correctly or incorrectly)
Reducto (same as Diffindo)
Confringo (like Diffindo and Reducto)
Sectumsempra (yeah…we all know why here right?)
Fiendfyre (this one is obvious too right?)

As an additional note, all other fire related spells are restricted until Fourth Year where the Flame Freezing charm is learned.

Welcome guys and gals and members of all ages to the first round of Open Beta testing for the brand new Dueling system. This system once fully finished, fleshed out, and favorable for all magic flinging folks will be the official dueling system for tournament style dueling and all other official dueling events. This system is only for official practice or ranked style dueling matches hosted by the Dueling Club, the Hogwarts Staff along side the Dueling Club, or by the Ministry of Magic for any special events. That means those big bad boogie men you see going bump in the night trying to blast you to bits are not going to be using the system.

Everyone enjoying the alliteration so far...good

What does this test mean for you? Quiet simple my wide eyed wand waving witches and wizards. You will be helping test this new system to make sure it is ready for such a great ordeal. To start us out I need ten brave young lads and laces willing to show of one of their many characters dueling skills. All grades are allowed, all houses are allowed, and all levels of crazy are allowed to help mix things up.

Why ten? Glad you asked.

Ten will give us five great duels to test the system out with. If the aroma of battle is too great for people to bare and I get an overwhelming amount of volunteers then I will happily extend the size of the roster to suit. However the extras must be in even numbers so if I get an additional five little spell shooters then one of those five will need to go find a suitable target dum...I mean opponent.

Once time has gone buy or all the duels have finished and all participants feel like they have blasted until the can blast no more. Then I will close to duels down for a time, put up a poll, ask some questions and send out a few PMs to those who helped out. These will all be about your experience with the system, what you thought, things you liked, things you think could use some changing, things you don't want changed, and an overall rating of how awesome you think it is.

So step right up and sign up for the first round of tests and help get this system up and running even faster.

behold the first brave boom-seeker to bear witness to the awesome beta system. If you could say which of your characters you will be using for the matches I will finalize your placement in the annuals of the guilds history.

But Squeeky needs someone to duel, someone brave enough to step into the ring and give everyone the first grand duel. Who will challenge this brave member in the ring of honor?
