A cocky art student from the 1920s, eh? Hmm... You can have him be a smoker since cigarettes existed then. Granted at the time, there wasn't as much research done to say "SMOKING IS BAD" so no one gave a s**t if you smoked or not. But we're also talking about a time when smoking from a pipe was more the "in" thing to do, so he could be a rebel in that regard.
He could be the type to wear glasses even though he doesn't need them, just to make himself look smarter and he can have them sit on the end of his nose. That way he can look down his nose and be even more pretentious. (lol)
How old will he be? 'Cuz then you can have him with an unkept beard. Men in the 1920s usually had fancy moustaches, but they didn't usually have full beards. He could be the type that don't give a ******** and doesn't bother to style his 'stache and leaves it messy.
And since he's an art student, he could have his clothes stained with charcoal and paint. He'd be messy just for the sake of being a rebel without a cause. And if people complain about his appearance, he can be all, "I'm an ARTISTE. I don't expect YOU to understand." But then the irony would be that he's actually a really lousy artist, but a brilliant mathematician. He's just doing all this to spite his rich, snooty parents.
... wow, I'm making this guy sound like a huge a*****e, aren't I! XD
