If he hadn't been huddled beneath a blanket, the constellation Fae may have been practically invisible against the snow. He shivered, drawing the blanket tighter around himself when the wind gusted, whistling past his ears and proving just too cold to keep sleeping. He opened his eyes, looking around with some bewilderment. Was he still sleeping? Perhaps this was a dream. A really cold dream.
Perhaps not.
Seiya sat up, shaking off a thin layer of snow from the top of the blanket as he did so. The campsite seemed to have been abandoned. Well, that was more of an understatement. It seemed to have never existed at all. Given the mess the Solamir had left of their first campsite when they'd packed up to leave, it seemed there had been no sign they'd ever been here at all. Where did everyone go?
Perhaps they'd received some sign that they needed to leave urgently. Or...everyone had their own paths to take, so perhaps they'd all simply followed their individual guidance to seek their fortune...
But it was the middle of the day, so it seemed unlikely that the stars would be leading them anywhere at the moment.
No, something about this seemed very odd. A prickle of worry touched his spine, but he pushed it away for now. The stars would guide him as they always had. If there were trouble, they would bring him safely past, if there were difficulties, he would make it through. He repeated these thoughts, almost like a calming mantra, as he collected his pack, returned his blanket, then started moving. Even without a current guide, he couldn't just stand still in a snow drift.

In the full light of day, Caléndula would have stuck out against the stark white snow, but in the dim light of morning, beneath the stormy clouds, she appears as a shadow on the ground. She'd never managed to pitch her tent correctly, so it's just her and her blanket, huddled in the snow.
Something feels wrong, even to her sleeping mind, but she just can't seem to rouse herself. The cold makes her want to huddle even deeper into her blanket. It's possible that she would have just kept sleeping, and possibly died from exposure, except that she shifts, and a little snow falls beneath her blanket. It hits the warm small of her back, and she shoots up out of the snow, yelping.
Massaging the cold spot with her hand, Caléndula looks around wildly. Where had everyone gone? There were no signs of the other hikers, nor even the Solamir. She was alone. She hates being alone. She picks up her blanket from the ground, and wraps it around herself. Her wings are sensitive and she wants to keep them as warm as possible, incase she needs to fly.
She notices something moving a short distance away, and her heart races with fear. What was that? A beast? Another hiker? As it draws closer, she realizes the figure sparkles like the snow, and is partially translucent. Perhaps it's a ghost. She calms somewhat. Ghosts were nothing frightening. Caléndula waves and calls to it. "Haloo!"

Seiya blinked at the dark shape in the distance, outlined in contrast by the bright snow. His own dark, starry wings likely stood out just as starkly now that he thought about it, though the rest of him would not. Could be an odd sight, really, a pair of dark wings drifting over the fallen snow. Amusing even, though he didn't have the luxury to entertain such thoughts at the moment.
Suppressing a shiver when a gust of wind send chills up his spine, he returned the gesture and called back, "Err...hello?" Only so much to be said at this distance. Might as well close that for a proper conversation. Though he couldn't recall noticing the other Pae'il in the group before, there had been quite a few on the hike up the mountain and he could have easily missed her before. He was pretty sure it was a 'her', judging by the voice. His assumption was proven as he got nearer to her, stomping through the snow and pausing from time to time to shake some of the clinging, icy substance from his toes. Perhaps a speedy descent from the mountain might help with the freezing issue. Though, given some of the steep drop-offs, he thought, perhaps not too speedy. At this altitude, if his wings also iced up...
He took only a moment to smile at the female as they neared one another before asking, "So...are we it? No sign of anyone else?" It was purely a curious question. Afterall, perhaps nothing was wrong, perhaps they'd all decided to leave early. Perhaps they'd tried to wake him before going, but he'd been too deeply asleep. Perhaps she had been the same way. Then, all they needed to do was follow after any signs of the others, whether they had continued on ahead...or had taken the storm as a bad omen and headed back down the mountain.

Caléndula shakes her head at her new ghost friend's question. "Just us," she agrees. She knew that mine had been haunted! "D'you know where the rest of the group went?"
She's more bemused by the whole situation than anything. Certainly not panicked. Although her feet were beginning to go numb, so it would be nice to get out of the snow. She doesn't seem too concerned about the whereabouts of the rest of the group, or how she (they) got separated. She'd come on this trip for an adventure, after all! She'd be more sad if the rest of the group were exploring caves and she was missing out.
"I guess the first thing is to try and get out of the snow," she says, shrugging. "Dunno about you, but my wings don't work so well when I'm cold. And I might need 'em later." Did ghosts get solid when they were cold? Because she just noticed her ghost friend's footprints through the snow where he'd come over to her. It shouldn't be making any impact on the physical world, but perhaps mountain ghosts were different. She'd never met a mountain ghost before.

"No idea," Seiya admitted, glancing behind the female. Nope, no one else around. "Perhaps the stars called some, but not all," he mused, unable to come up with any further answers at this point. The cold made him shiver again, and he thought again that perhaps they should be moving to somewhere a little less exposed. Perhaps, some sign of where they might go...?
Unaware of her incorrect assumption, he nodded in agreement with her assessment. "It's a little too cold to trust our wings not to ice up," he agreed, fluttering his star-adorned, darkened wings in thought. It occurred to him that he didn't know her name, so he added, "I'm for moving on as well. There doesn't seem to be much left here for us. The others must have either gone on ahead or moved back down the mountain. However, the stars have led us together, so perhaps we have some path of our own to travel." He held out his hand to her in greeting. "I'm Seiya."

The movement from the spirit's beautiful wings distracts Caléndula for a while. They looked like a starry night sky...how beautiful! She'd never met such a well-formed spirit. Normally they were just...ephemeral bits of light and color and sound. This spirit looked almost like a fellow Pae. But he was translucent. And he certainly talked like a spirit. The stars led us together? Definitely a spirit.
So distracted by his beautiful wings and beautiful hair and beautiful voice, Caléndula doesn't think much of his gesture, and extends a dark hand from beneath her blanket-cape and shakes his hand. "I'm Caléndula," she answers with a bit of a smile. Then she looks down at their clasped hands, a look of startled horror on her face.
Yelping, she backs up too quickly and trips on a pile of snow, flopping backwards into it. "Y-you touched me!" she exclaims, wide-eyed. The spirits had never touched her before, not even when she tried to touch them. Frantically she looks around for anyone else, anything else that might normalize this situation.
Oh gods. Oh no oh no oh no.
I'm dead. That's the only explanation. I'm dead and now I'm a spirit too, doomed to roam this cold mountain until the end of time.
She runs a hand through her hair, suddenly desperate for tactile stimulation. Surely she couldn't be dead if she were cold, right? Interestingly, for all Caléndula's fascination with death and spirits and all manner of spooky things...the thought of her own death terrifies her.

Seiya pulled back, startled by the female Fae's response. What...what had he done wrong? Yes, he had offered her his hand...but she had made the motion to take it. If she didn't like contact, would she not have simply refused? At least with a polite explanation? Seiya would have understood.
As it were, he was so shaken by her response, he apologized automatically, though he didn't even know exactly what he was apologizing for. "I...I'm sorry, miss. I didn't know...I mean, if you don't like being touched, you could have just mentioned it. It's fine really. Not everyone likes shaking hands, I suppose." He backed away, holding his hands up defensively. Laying there in the snow when they'd just been discussing it being cold enough for their wings to ice over did not seem like a comfortable place to be. However, though his initial instinct was to help her up, if she didn't like being touched so much, that certainly wasn't an option.
Fidgeting slightly, he settled for crouching nearby, looking concerned. "Err...are you alright, miss? That can't be comfortable, as cold as it is out here."

Though he never quite understood what it was that spooked her, Seiya and Calendula managed to survive their ordeal on the mountain together. The trip down the mountain was slow and treacherous, but with careful progress and the aid of their supplies, they made steady headway. A pause was taken for dinner, soup from Seiya's thermos went well with the two loaves of Solamir bread, then they were on their way again. Though the darkness would make many others hesitate to continue, Seiya trusted the stars to guide their way above all else. Convincing Calendula to trust them as well, the pair made it down to warmer areas free of snow. The pair parted ways at the foot of the mountain, leaving Seiya to ponder on his way home just why the female Fae had seemed so fascinated with touching everything on the way down the slope...
