The Daily Dragon is a student-run wizarding newspaper. It is based out of an empty classroom in Hogwarts. The Daily Dragon was founded by Jamesina and Akira Machachlan and all of its staff are students. Those seeking to write for the paper should attempt to make one of the meetings.

The newspaper is printed once a week and can be found in the Great Hall, Library, and Common Rooms on Mondays.

Quidditch Teams Announced!
It's that time of year again! Try-outs have passed, and soon Quidditch games will be starting. But before the games start, let's get to know our players.

Gryffindor
No change in this year's captains for the Lions. The team is lead by sixth year prefect Elliryanna McHalen and fifth year Jacob Drage.

Chasers
Everyone was expecting McHalen to be back again as a chaser, so that comes as no surprise to anyone. Fifth year Xavier Nicholson and seventh year Caitlin Engels have also returned to their spots as chasers this year. Ready to take their place if necessary are second years Leonette Mitchell and Tanya Cherri, along with first year Rosebella Winthrop.

Beaters
This position seemed to have quite a bit of competition this year. Drage, being the current vice-captain for the Lions grabbed one of the slots, but who would the other beater be? That would be none other than seventh year prefect Cameron Rowley. There are three reserve players. Seventh year Keith Alvern, fifth year Tevye Murphy, and third year Toby Walsh.

Keepers
This year's keeper is fourth year Christian "Crash" Barett. While some may question his nickname in regards to being a keeper, he does quite a good job at tending the posts. However, should the name of Crash cause Barett some injury, second year Alex Quimby will be waiting on reserve to take his place.

Seekers
Whoever catches the snitch wins the game. The Lion lucky enough to have this job is none other than sixth year Eun Han. However, should the pressure be too much for Han, fifth year prefect David Clarisse will be standing by on reserve.

Hufflepuff
This year's captain is seventh year prefect Dhylan Nolynn and his vice-captain is fifth year Tobi Fallrein.

Chasers
It's no surprise that Nolynn is one of the Badger's chasers again this year. He is the captain after all, however, just because he was guaranteed his spot does not mean he should be underestimated. It's notably difficult to knock him off his broom, and he has a very good arm. Joining him is seventh year Adalaide Blythe and fifth year Cain Justox. Both of whom are very strong scorers.

There are currently two reserve chasers, both of whom are unknown on the pitch. Sixth year prefect Chloe Clarisse made her first attempt at trying out this year, but only managed to snag a reserve slot. The second reserve chaser is first year Elsbeth Vass. It is highly likely that we will be seeing her off reserves in years to come.

Beaters
None should be surprised that Fallrein is half of Hufflepuff's main beaters. He has a particularly good aim. The other half? Third year Raphael Snow.

Keepers
Yes, you read right. This seems to be one of the most popular positions this year on the Hufflepuff team. However, the lucky Badger to get the spot is fourth year Corabell Kiremono who has held the spot for the past three years. The reserve beaters include third years Jarlath Lowery and first year Alastrine Whitlow.

Seeker
Perhaps one of the most important positions on the Quidditch pitch, this year's Hufflepuff seeker is none other than third year Terren Hawthorn. Last year, Hawthorn was a reserve player in this position. It will be interesting to see if his waiting has paid off. Speaking of reserve players, it is now first year Jessamine Walsh's turn to wait to shine.

Ravenclaw
This year's captain is seventh year Richard Drage and his vice-captain is fifth year prefect Shayna Snow.

Chasers
The team hasn't changed too much from last year. Leading the chasers is seventh year prefect Rufus Flinker. He his joined by third years Xavier Goldwind and Gypsy Lovette.

Beaters
Ravenclaw has had a history of strong beaters over the years, and they seem to be carrying on the tradition with sixth years Chance Carlson and Verily McHalen. It should be noted that McHalen is indeed the twin sister of the Gryffindor captain. It will be interesting to see how their relationship plays out on the pitch.

Keepers
Due to being captain, seventh year Richard Drage was able to keep his position as keeper. However, he is one of the best keepers the Eagles have had in recent times. It should be noted that Drage also bears a relation on the Gryffindor team. The current vice-captain, Jacob Drage is his younger brother. The only reserve for the Ravenclaw also happens to be for this position. That honor goes to second year Echo Lovette.

Seeker
The honor of playing seeker goes to fifth year prefect Shayna Snow. A great flyer, Snow is not one to be underestimated.

Slytherin
The captains this year for Slytherin are a fierce pair of beaters by the names of Dominic Montague (captain) and Darius Silver (vice-captain). It should be interesting to see what their leadership will bring to the Snakes.

Chasers
And here is where we find the rare first years who were lucky enough to make the team without being put on reserve. Who was this skilled first year? None other than Anastasia Romellier. While she has yet to be in an official game, it should be very interesting to see how she was able to make the team at such a young age. Another player of note would be second year Claire Alexandrie. While she is a second year, this will be her first year playing. They are joined by experience chaser, fifth year prefect Daniel Kiremono, younger brother of the former Ravenclaw player Shina Kiremono. With such a new batch of chasers, it should be interesting for Slytherin to get a foothold in the chase for the cup. However, Kiremono has proven himself to be an able chaser. Hopefully he will be able to help train his less experienced teammates. The Snakes currently have two reserves for the chaser position, third year Dmitri Kamenev, and first year Ashley Yaxley. It should be noted that last year Kamenev was a reserve keeper for the team.

Beaters
Both captains of the Slytherin team happen to be beaters, and so it was no surprise to see them filling these spots. Seventh year Dominic Montague and sixth year prefect Darius Silver are a brilliant team. While their offensive side might seem weak, Slytherin definately makes up for it with their beaters. They are joined by reserve player second year Joshua Stropthall.

Keeper
The position of keeper for the Snakes goes to sixth year Virgil Ross. Ross is a strong keeper who spent a few years on the reserve team before being called up to take his place on the main team.

Seeker
Another case of Quidditch becoming a family affair, sixth year prefect Jaslyn Ross completes the Slytherin roster, taking the position of seeker. Her twin brother is indeed Virgil Ross, the keeper on the Slytherin team. She is joined in the position of seeker by reserve player first year Kenneth Lowery.

First Year Advice
It's the beginning of the year, and for a few of our readers, that means it's their first year at Hogwarts. And so, our staff found a few helpful hints to make your first year a bit easier.

- Be outgoing. At first.
Chances are, you don't know that many people. You need to make friends, or at least people that you can work on classwork with. Your professors will ask you to work in groups. You've been warned. After a few months, you don't have to be quite as outgoing.

- Don't date!
Well, not ever, but seriously. You guys are eleven. Dating is a big thing. You can wait a bit, I promise. Your first year is a great time, don't waste it getting involved in complicated relationships.

- Create a study plan.
You might think you've got time, but tests tend to sneak up on you. It's a good idea to be prepared. Some teachers even award house points for doing well on tests, so it's a good idea to study.

- Join a club!
Clubs are a great way to meet people in other houses and years who are interested in what you are. If you can't find a club for what you're interested in, why not start one? Just talk to your head of house and they can help you.

- Beware the staircases!
The staircases can be particularly tricky. They move around, and if you're not careful you could end up on the opposite end of the castle from your class.

- Lost? Ask a portrait!
If you do happen to get lost, ask a portrait. Don't ask Peeves. In fact, avoid him if you can.

- The Dungeons, they're scary.
They are called Dungeons, and no offense to anyone of Slytherin House, but it's creepy down there. You're might even find a dead body or two. You've been warned.

Shops Set to Re-Open Soon
Two shops located in Hogsmeade are due to be reopening under new management in the coming weeks. The Magic Neep, as well as the Ollivander's satellite in the village have been closed recently due to lack of employment. Their new owners hope to have the stores open by the first Hogsmeade weekend of the year.

Looking for Articles
Are you in charge of a club that is holding an event or trying to get new members? Or maybe you just want to bring awareness to an issue. Whatever your reasoning, we here at The Daily Dragon are looking for topics to write articles on. Don't be afraid to leave a note on the door for us to look at!
