If it's not too much to ask, do any of you use any sort of birth control, and how long have you been using this method?

And a curiosity question: For birth control pills, is it okay if Week 4 in the pack arrives before the period does?

I have been on birth control since age 13. Used a form of yaz, and switched this past 2 years to aviane instead. I recently tried coming off my bc this january, only to learn I have PCOS and need to continue it :c
But whats going on?

I do. It's been... two years, maybe? I use the "1/20" pills, like Microgestin Fe 1/20, Loestrin 1/20, etc. since they seem to be rather interchangeable (I get whatever exists at the pharmacy, although I'm 99% sure the prescription is for Microgestin).

By week 4, you mean your "off" week where you have sugar pills/iron pills? What's typical is your period comes during that week, maybe a couple days in, because you aren't getting the hormones and your body decides to shed the uterine lining. So, week 4 should start before your period comes, yes. Sometimes you might miss your period on BC, and that's okay and normal too. If you get worried, take a pregnancy test, but it's not uncommon to miss a period because your body had no need to build up a heavy uterine lining.

Your period might last into starting your next pack as well, if you get longer periods. That's okay too. Just take your pills when you're supposed to. (: For me, I get much shorter and lighter periods on BC, but everyone is different.

I've been on BC for 10 years now. I've tried all sorts in that time, lots of different pills, the patches. Almost did an iud, but my iron is to messed up, so im sticking with loestrin fe and im a happy no period having lady.

As far as all the pills i've taken week 4 always came before the period, might just be my body or the pills i've taken, never had any issues in regards to that...
did take a BC that was causing blindness but thats another story...

I was on that for three years, and it was great! The best part is that (and it's the same with any pill) you can skip the period week altogether, and NOT get a period.

It can take three months or more for your period to regulate on the pill. It's pretty normal. I've taken three different kinds of pills, and for me they've really made life a lot easier. Lighter periods with a lot less pain. They work really well in preventing pregnancy, as well, which I learned with a long-term boyfriend.

Watch how you're acting on the pill, because I found that the hormone levels were really affecting my moods, which were already a little off to begin with.

I've recently switched to an IUD, which I suggest only if you have some time to recover from the surgery. It can be quite painful just to put in if you haven't had children. It's an awesome change from taking a pill. I'm about four weeks in and just got my first period. I've been spotting like crazy, but in this scenario it's completely normal.

If you're ever really concerned, call your doctor's office and speak to a nurse.
